I just saw this in my new Mule.net email:

New Mule Brand Rolling Papers

$3.00

New Mule Brand Rolling Papers- New limited edition design 1.5" size Mule brand Rolling papers. We listened to you and made a paper everyone can roll with!

I was wondering what everybody thought about this. I don't really care THAT much one way or the other, my initial reaction was 'is this really necessary?'. Doesn't it condone drug use to some extent? I see a good number of 'kids' (under18) at Mule shows, what kind of message does selling rolling papers send to them?

I actually haven't tried em, but I've heard they arent great quality papers....

I got a pack at the Black Crowes concert, and i was pleased with them. I think its just cool, its just paper man! Plus, they say "cigarette rolling papers". what else can u roll with them?

Burn One Down

Written by: Ben Harper

let us burn one
from end to end
and pass it over
to me my friend
burn it long, we'll burn it slow
to light me up before i go

if you don't like my fire
then don't come around
cause i'm gonna burn one down
yes i'm gonna burn one down

my choice is what i choose to do
and if i'm causing no harm
it shouldn't bother you
your choice is who you choose to be
and if your causin' no harm
then you're alright with me

if you don't like my fire
then don't come around
cause i'm gonna burn one down
yes i'm gonna burn one down

herb the gift from the earth
and what's from the earth
is of the greatest worth
so before you knock it try it first
you'll see it's a blessing
and not a curse

if you don't like my fire
then don't come around
cause i'm gonna burn one down
yes i'm gonna burn one down

If you listen to much of Mule's older albums, you see that they are targeting a certain type of people. These people are the same people that usually smokes. The Deep End albums changed everything. If it was not for Deep End albums, you would not see all those under aged kids at the shows. Personally, I think it is funny to see them offered on the web site. It is sort of like a joke. They did not have to do it, but they did. I don't think it was for the money. Mule was trying to make a point.

Choose your shag, your filters, a little piece of fresh pear or apple for a pouch button and all of a sudden those ready rolls start to taste and smell pretty nasty.

No. I'm not.

Somewhere in mass production, the fine art of curing, cutting, storing and rolling the perfect evening smoke has been lost. Folks didn't used to just sit around and smoke 80 cigarettes a day. They rolled one or two every now and then. Smoking was an event to be savored once in a while and not an occurance every twenty minutes of everyday.
I'm not condoning tobacco abuse.
If you don't smoke, don't start.
If you can't quit, control what you can.
And don't even bother lighting it up unless it rolled to perfection.

I have both that Mule has put out and I don't smoke myself, so I agree... they are a collector's item to me.

There is no question that the band members like to indulge a smoke. It is tolerated, if not condoned, at the shows. I think this particular merchandise is fun, and unique. I ordered a few for my friends as holiday gifts. Good fun, Good stuff.

Isn't there an age restriction on them? Here in Canada, you have to be 18 to purchase any smokin' equipment, be it a pipe, paper, what have you.

Ozzy, would you be questioning the Mule having their own brand of beer?

I'm holding out for the 10cc Mule Syringe that comes with the CD Woody was listening to in the motel room. Perhaps with a framed photo of his father Doug. Now that will be something to hand down to the grandkids!! Ozzy, I'm in your corner. Never left.

I don't understand what you mean. How do the Deep End albums change everything? How did those albums change things so Mule appeals to underage kids where they didn't before? Can you explain?

Doug

TanDan, I know you're against drugs, I agree with many of the things you write here and yes, there is a lesson to be learned from the unfortunate passing of Woody, but damn... Isn't that a bit harsh? With that said, I've said my share of offensive things on this site before (see: Judge Rehnquist) so to each his own.
