My 19 yr old daughter dodged a bullet last night . She had about 8 or 10 oz. of whiskey with friends before heading out to a local club. Shortly after she returned to her table from the washroom she became very disoriented and went outside for some air. The next thing she knew she was being rescued by a friend from alongside a roadway about a mile from the bar. Before she passed out she had called a friend on her cell to ask for help and tried to describe where she was. Fortunately he found her and brought her home. Her older brothers came home to find her hyperventilating and a mess. She didn't know what had happened for about a 2 hour period. Her brothers woke me up and she said she wanted to be tested for drugs...maybe GHB. Her bros. called her friends and found out another friend was pretty screwed up too. I spent 8 hrs at the hospital with the girls overnight and they were treated like a couple of drunks by the hospital staff. They were released at 10:00 this morning and it appears their drinks were spiked with animal tranquilizers...probably something called K or Special K. I can only imagine what could have happened last night. My boys are watching film from the bar security cameras to see if they can see anything but the films are pretty dark. I wouldn't want to be a suspect if they can identify him. She was lucky to have been able to call for help and things worked out alright considering how bad it could've been. Be aware of this type of predatory B.S. and don't leave your drinks unattended for any length of time. She was lucky !

I'm glad your daughter and her friend are okay. It's amazing how frequently we're reminded that there are a lot of pieces of sh*t in the world.

Be careful.

oldblue, as TopDroog said, I'm so glad to hear your daughter and her friend are ok. When I was a very young woman, I never left a drink unattended because I was worried someone would spike it. I don't worry about it anymore, thinking that no one would get much fun from messing with a woman in her 40's.

What is the motivation for these losers?

Unfortunately, it doesn't surprise me. Some ***holes were probably planning on taking your daughter and her friend out of the club later on and raping them. My ex-girlfriend moved out a couple of years ago, but her son, 19 at the time, gave me some information that kind of set me back a bit. He said date rape by drugging goes on all the time, you wouldn't believe it. It even happened to his girlfriend before he met her. BTW, the kid I mention who told me this lives in Gilroy, CA, about 20 miles south of San Jose. I suspect the girls involved are too afraid of the guys to report it. I'm glad your daughter is OK. And girls, be careful who you date!

Glad that your daughter is okay oldblue. I once had a beer spiked while dancing in a local club. I probably had four beers that night before I left. Ended up pulling out in front of a car at an intersection and got hit. Spent the night in the slammer. Thank God nobody was injured. From there on out I have never left a drink unattended.

Glad all ended well.

At least she felt it before the Ketemine kicked in good. That is some bad stuff if you take it on purpose, I couldn't imagine being "surprised" by it.

What goes around comes around.

oldblue, I am so sorry to hear this. Glad the girl is alright and nothing worse happened to her. I know she will have learned from this and never leave a drink to go to the bathroom again. I know your kids are your world from talking with you. Sending good vibes to you and your family as the anger you will feel never goes away, it gets easier but it never leaves.

I got dosed at, of all places, the Beacon. I was able to get myself into a cab and to my downtown office. Other than that, I was totally unable to function. Couldn't get cash out of an ATM to afford a cab all the way home, couldn't maneuver through Penn Station to catch a train. It was horrible.
I guess I was lucky because, at the very least, the dude that did this lost me in the crowd on the way out.
It wasn't til a little while later I realized what happened but NEVER EVER let anybody you don't know bring you a drink.

Happy to hear things eventually turned out alright. Hope you find out who the SOB's were and they get what they deserve.

This is something I constantly pound into my two daughters heads. When you go out, never let go of what your drinking or let it out of your sight and if you do, never go back to it and get another if you want one. Doesn't have to be in a bar, it could be anywhere and it doesn't have to be alcohol, it could be a can of soda or bottle of water that gets spiked.

Thank God that everything turned out alright!
WHAT a world we live in!
I'm just glad that she was able to realize SOMETHING was wrong, before anything EXTREMELY wrong happened!

I had a similar situation happen to me at a club a couple of years ago....
I was even WITH my husband,Scott at the time it happened!
I don't usually put my drink down, but I was dancing RIGHT next to the area where it was sitting!!(I was just turned around!)
I was on my 2nd cranberry & vodka....and I started feeling really weird....I made my way to the restroom & really started feeling weird!
I forced myself to vomit...& it was real foamy & extremely white(which is strange cause I was drinking cranberry juice).....I made my way back to Scott & told him that I was feeling strange & wanted to go home!(we weren't even at the place for an hour)
He helped me outside towards the car....by this time I could hardly walk......
the next thing I know...I am waking up on the ground of the parking lot with people standing all around me...
The security & police informed me that they had problems like this happen before...so they had an undercover watch goin on in the club!
The one security guy noticed a group of guys hanging around us...as soon as we arrived!
He said that he even witnessed one guy moving in on our table....but he said that he couldn't be sure if anything happened until he watched us leave & saw the group of guys leaving RIGHT behind us!!
That's when they stepped in....

I had to go to the hospital & have testing done......the doctor said that I was lucky, because even though I vomitted....there was still enough GBH in my system that it could've been REAL bad...or fatal!
I had to give statements to police at the hospital...it was a mess!
They got the group of guys, though!
Who knows WHAT those guys had planned to do....I'm just glad that I could help them get caught!!

Needless to say...we have NEVER gone back to that club again!!

This happened to my wife when we first got married. I was on a 48-hour shift in the Coast Guard, and had been on the boat for over ten hours that day. When I got back to the station around 1 am, I was told to call her. She said she had gone out for a drink after work with some coworkers. She walked away from her drink to use the restroom. About a half hour later they went to an apartment of one of her coworkers right next door to the club. She got very hot, went outside for air, and collapsed. They said they heard her head hit the concrete from inside the apratment with music on and the door shut. She suffered a sever concussion and they just took her home. I rushed home (hour drive from the time she told me about all this) and took her to the hospital. The ER doctor told her she had been spiked with GHB, and she was lucky she hit her head and took so much aspirin, as it slowed down her pulse. We induced vomiting until she was empty and she was out of it for a good day or so.

I wish I could have found those guys and given them some of that $hit, had a yard stick, a car battery and some jumper cables. I guarantee they would have never done it again.

Before my niece headed to college, I told her about all this and to be very careful. The other thing I told her was never take an already open beer at a party. Open it yourself. Or, if it is a keg party, pour the beer yourself.

unfortunately these days **** like this happens and happens to frequently, first and foremost everyone is all right, and not being judgemental anyway, but if your daughter is drinking @ 19 ...its a tough age....beware and smart...party at home!

That is good advice.
Other tips are hold your cup by the top with your hand over it and in front of you and always keep your thumb over your bottle opening.

I've seen this happen many times. Some pointers, take them or leave them, its not a lecture.

1) Never trust a male that you do not know. He might be prince charming but he is new to you and he knows it and will take advantage of everything you tell him.

2) Go out in groups. Stick to the plan. Arrive together, leave together.

3) Have ICE on your cellphone. In your directory have an entry ICE (In Case of Emergency) have a number of someone that can help you.

4) get to know your waiter/watress. Tip first. Tell them your name. You'll need all the help you can get if something goes bad.

5) If you feel something is wrong, go to the management or to the restroom and lock yourself in a stall. Call from there. While the bad guy is waiting for you to come out, you can buy more time. Tell someone in the restroom to call for help for you. NEVER LEAVE THE PLACE ALONE! Almost always a person will just 'pop up' to help you to your car.

6) This one sounds silly, but you need to keep a small business size card with partial name, date of birth, an ICE phone #, NKA (no known allergies, or list them) and put in your shoe. Better yet, write it with a sharpie to the inside of your shoe. Emergency Room folks know to look here when trying to determine your identity.

7) Never park next to an idling auto. Watch out for pannel vans, stay away from the sliding door side.

8) Be leary of males overburdened with books, or whatnot, asking for help. That was Ted Bundy's M.O., fake cast and everything. ( except a front passenger seat or inside door handle!)

9) As has been mentioned, never take a offered drink. A smuck might be offended, but a gentleman will understand.

10) Again.... never trust a strange male.

Fail to plan and you plan to fail. Be proactive. If you remember just one of these things it might help you.

Also...your boyfriend might be the target. The rapist wants him out of the way so he can get at you, so he spikes HIS drink and then offers to help you and the sick boyfriend to the car. For his helpfulness, you offer to drive the guy to his apartment, he gets in the backseat. He is homefree now. All he has to do is pull the gun or push your boyfriend out the door in an alley.

This stuff does happen.

Have the security help you to your car, or call an ambulance if needed. Once you leave the place you have weakened your position. Get any help while you are still the boss.

An interesting web site is www.hogsbreath.com This popular night spot in Key West has three cameras in real time set up for your enjoyment. Observers of the human animal will notice many things watching people. Watch women walk away from their drinks. Watch men watching them. Watch how often a purse is left open when backs are turned. Pick out 'problems' with peoples body langauge, etc. Plus if you have broadband you can listen to the live band. When hurricaines go by, that is interesting too.

Also if you think a mate is cheating on you, see if they show up with that 'golfing buddy'
