Anyone here in an interacial relationship?

Just curious, because while I have never dated anyone outside of my own race (honky), it's become a possibilty recently and I'm most probably going to pursue it as the attraction definately seems mutual. Personally, I have always been open minded in regards to this subject, just never really had the opportunity as I live in a very "non-diverse" area. So I guess I'm curious in this day and age if it's still a tough row to hoe like it was in the old days? Obviously if two people are meant to be together they should be able to weather whatever comes their way, but I'm wondering in a new relationship if there are pitfalls to expect. Anyone have any experiences to share.

I'm sure I sound like a rube here, but like I said I have zero experience and don't know anyone personally who has.

Love knows no color, and that is the truth. We are all the same color really, just different shades.

I will comment some more here later.

I have a family member that is married to a person of another race. One caucasian one Asian. They are in their 20's and have experienced no societal difficulties in the part of Ga where they live, if that's what you mean.

I've lived in Chicago my entire life. My mother is american born of swedish and french parents and my father was also born here of hungarian and german parents. I married a peruvian and we have two lovely daughters. My brother married a chinese doctor. As a family we have traveled the globe. I have been to Macchu Picchu twice, my brother has been to Africa, England, Japan & Taiwan, my mother to New Zealand, I have a niece in Japan. Open yourself to other races, cultures, there is so much to be discovered and shared. We are all of one race.... human.

Don't ask us.
Do what feels right for you.

You might run into some close-minded people, but they aren't important, are they?

BTW...I'm not in an "interacial relationship" but come from a mixed family of black, white and Asian via marriage and adoptions....

Yes, I'm not asking what to do, I'm just asking what to expect after doing it I was just curious as to what if any kind of stupidity or other hassles people have run in to.

Interestingly enough, I have had about twice as many PMs about this topic as responses on the forum, so that kinda tells me a lot right there.

If anyone is rude enough to comment on who you're with then they aren't worth worrying about. Unfortunately, you might get looks or attitudes, but just feel sorry for those who are ignorant and hopefully they will see how happy you are with your friend and change their minds about it.

None of my business (the "P" in PM means private!) but I'm always curious.....
...are the PMs mostly relating experiences, or mostly giving advice ("go for it" or "avoid this relationship")?

Benjamin I wondered that too. In my own experience, I never got a bad PM on here but I did get some nasty emails full of racial slurs and just hatefulness for quite awhile before. Even after I had gotten pregnant with a biracial baby, and when I lost the baby too. Some people are just full of hate and it is sad. Those kind of people need to just mind their own fockin business when it doesn't concern or affect them in anyway. They can hide through hotmail accounts but hate in your heart is like a bad disease that in the end hurts only them when their conscience catches up to them.

If the good Lord wanted us to be all the same race he would have created us all the same. The only way to break the racial barriers that society has created is to love everyone the same no matter their color or where they came from. It is up to us to break those barriers. We have to teach our children to love unconditionally without judgement.

I have an unhelpful twist on this question, Bodine Fan. I'm 100% Swedish American, but no one in my very large extended family has ever said anything against marrying somebody more heavily pigmented, like Norwegians.

I often, however, meet people who think I should preserve my 100% bloodline by marrying and having kids by a Swede, unlike my brother and sister and all the cousins I can think of. These people have always been non-white, I think, and typically Orientals born in the Old World. It's definitely racism in a sense, but I think their interest is more in preservation of an increasingly rare, unique biological heritage, not unlike their own pride in their fading ancient cultural heritage, more than discrimination against others.

A Chinese woman I recently met thinks it would be great to set me up with a Swedish Swede her roommate's acquainted with. She says it would be great for me to have little Swedish kids (registered with the AKC?). I suspect she thinks it would be great for me not to have little Swedish-Chinese kids.

what Pam said

I grew up in a biker household and had racism thrown down my neck the whole time.
When in prison from 18 to 22, I got racial tattoos. (recently have gotten them covered with wholesome stuff ) and had to get caught up in the racial B/S just to survive.
Thought the whole time, it seemed to me as not being the right way to be.

Now to me race or skin color is meaningless. Alot of races and skin colors aggrivate me cause of thier behavior in my area of residence. My own included but that isn't due to the color of the skin. It is the environment they live in and the way they are being brought up. Those I believe are social issues.

Hey man My brother has been in a Interacial relationship ,he's white and she is asian, well married now for 10 years and has two beautiful kids who visit with me and my daughter all of the time. I love them as I do my own daughter. I personally never gave it a second thought, but there were some in my own family that had some stupid things to say and I got in their asses. You live your live for you and Phuck what everyone else thinks. If it makes the two of you happy run with it. It's had to find someone that makes you happy and when you do regardless of the color of their skin you grab it.

My very Arian-looking cousin married an Indian (she is from India). They have been feeling their way through some difficulties with his parents accepting their marriage. But she (his wife) has been a little stand-offish toward most of us. I can't blame her though. Many members of my family don't have much to say to them when they do come to family gatherings I am guessing beause she is dark-skinned.

Personally, I love both of them very much, as he is only a year older than me, and we grew up practically as brothers. When we were in college he also opened my mind to new religions and perspectives on Christianity and American culture (another thread unto itself).

I would only throw a word of caution your way that some areas of our country are still not on board with the Civil Rights Movement, and heinous crimes against humanity do still occur here. I would caution you not to place yourself in vulnerable circumstances, especially until you establish a pretty solid relationship with her, which may amke a difference when you are in public.

Peace~!
