I've gotten two different discs with a show identified as Boston Tea Party, 11/1/70, from two entirely independent-of-each-other sources. Both consist of Statesboro Blues, Trouble No More, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, and Mountain Jam. However, these are actually the versions that are on the Ludlow Garage show from 4/4/70--same solos, vocals, etc., as far as my aging ears can tell.

The Live Show Database shows no setlist for this gig. Does anyone know whether there's a real recording of this show available, or is this an ABB Urban Legend? Or is this the real thing and I have to deal with the hallucinations starting up again (don't you just hate whan that happens?)?

Thanks.

Urban legend. There is no circulating tape of the Tea Party show.

Thanks.

Sigh!

I get slightly bummed when I recall seeing someone displaying stacks and stacks of tapes of Grateful Dead shows. And this was 20 years ago! Supposedly all their shows have been taped and circulate. Why couldn't this have happened with the ABB?

Oh, well, at least we have the ones we do.

There were alot more shows taped than are in circulation...many are gone and will never be heard again, lost along the way before being transferred to cassette or cd, some were thrown away, and some are under wraps or in the hands of people who do not wish to share. We will see more archive shows from the Duane era, I think...maybe not complete shows...there is a ton of stuff not in circulation that will one day surface....but, yeah...sure wish we had the complete library from 69 thru 71...

Now if we could only shake loose the Bill Graham Archives, that would be a treasure trove I'm sure.

Talk about "Dreams"!

I imagine a lot of other tapes exist as Goliath pointed out. Some may be held by folks who aren't even aware that tapes circulate freely, and that there are forums for swapping. Others may be concerned about legal issues ("Will I get busted for trading?", etc.). But someday.....

why haven't we been doing something to get these historic unciculated shows out? Maybe the big house has got all the stuff...

I suspect that The Big House has some uncirculated shows but the real stash is the Bill Graham stuff.

I bet some of the delay has to do with the usual legalistic issues. The existing tapes are so widespread that nothing can be done about them. But releasing new stuff is a different matter. OTOH, a few years ago a friend of mine presented Kirk West with the College of St. Catherine tape from March 25, 1971. Kirk's response was, essentially, "Wow! We've never heard that one before!" spoken in tones of admiration.

Go figure!

Which show? Bogus Boston Tea Party or College of St. Catherine 3/25/'71?
