What went down w/ Eugene?

Right after Eddie died, the WWE went to England for a tour. When they arrived at the hotel, Eugene (Nick Dinsmore) was incoherent in the lobby and passed out drooling in front of his hotel room door as a result of taking too many somas. Soma (Carisoprodol) is a powerful muscle relaxer/painkiller that is by far and away the pill of choice for wrestlers. Given the timing, the internal heat came from the fact that many (soma takers included) thought he was disrespecting Eddie's memory. The reality of the situation is that there's a huge amount of wrestlers addicted to somas, and the belief is that Eugene simply didn't make it to his room to pass out before they kicked in. He came back to rehab and was scheduled to start up again in Deep South, but there's been more problems.

Here's a question.

Is the only reason WWE keeps Flair around is because they know he's so hard-up for cash that he's willing to take the most outrageous, bloody beatings? I mean, I don't see anybody else "doing the job*" like that.

*Lookit me, picking up bhawk's trade lingo.

Loved it in the 70's, used to go to Municipal Auditorium in Atlanta, and later the Omni

All time faves of mine

The Spoiler - who walked the rope and used the Claw.
The Great Kabuki - and that green powder he blew out of his mouth.
The Valiant Brothers - Luscious Johnny and Handsome Jimmy
The Royal Kangaroos - Lord Jonathon Boyd and ?
Mr. Wrestling 1
Paul Demarco (The Original Elbow Smash)
Swede Hanson
Roddy Piper

The Assassins
The Missouri Mauler

Lived in Falcons Rest Apartments next to The French Angel, Tim Woods,Diamond Jack Vascky.

Sold "Hash' for Abdul Zuttaar...used to help cut the camels out of vinyl for his trunks, he got mad at me when I looked at his drivers license and found out his real name was Ricky Sanchez from Mexico.

Have phots of me and Abdullah the Butcher at my surprise 40th Birthday party at his "Rib Shack"

One photo we are both growling and he's shoving a fork in my forehead.

Also have one with him getting my 72 year old Grandma in a Headlock.

Can't stand in watching the current and last 10 years of it..............

Always hated Rick Flair......

Loved announcer Gordon Solie with his famous quotes "Indeed..that remains to be seen" "He would fight a buzz Saw and give it the first round"

Watched a lot of Joe Pendicino and Bonnie Blackstone era.............

Greatest wrestling moment ever.....The Assassins w/ Ivan Koloff as their ref vs Dusty and Ole Anderson w/ Gene as their ref inside the steel cage....Dusty gets a beating from the Assassins, makes a comeback and manages to tag Ole and then Ole gets in the ring looks around turns on Dusty and the 5 of them deliver a beating on Dusty inside the cage. If only they could have ended Dusty's career right then and there, the wrestling world would have been a better place!!! LOL

At this point in his career, maybe Flair does this stuff because he's just become a company guy that will do whatever they ask (See Benoit, Chris). I do know that I don't want to see a 56 year old man taking a superplex off a ladder ever again!

They recycled this same angle in 1984 at the Omni, only this time Dusty made the save for Flair, who was getting beat down by Ivan and Nikita Koloff and Khrusher Khruschev. Flair turned on Dusty and the rest of the Horsemen ran in and "broke" Dusty's ankle...

I know he tried it again in a similiar fashion w/ the Road Warriors in 86 or maybe 87 where they "turned" on him, the only problem was by this time the fans were sick of Dusty and they encouraged the Road Warriors to keep beating the tar out of him. I think they unscrewed one of the spikes from their shoulder pads and drove it into his head. Dusty never was the smartest booker in the world, he would find something that worked once and then run it into the ground. His most famous one was the Dusty finish where he would make you think the championship had changed hands and then either there would be a reversal or some technicality that would overrule the decision....so basically the heel looked like a wuss, the face looked stupid and the fans went home ticked. It has been argued that Jim Crockett's continued reliance on Dusty's booking single handedly destroyed or at least greatly sped up the demise of his promotion. As he killed house shows w/ his horrid repetitive ideas. All that being said I don't think Dusty booked the original cage turn I mentioned, I'm not sure who was booking GCW at the time but I don't think it was Dusty. He sure did take that idea and run w/ it. Heck you could even say the tradition continued on w/ Sting and his mulitple partnerships and turns w/ Flair...LOL

Thank you Mam !

My Grandma is gone now....but I was looking at that photo the other day and laughing.....she never liked wrestling....and when I was kid she controled the TV...so on Saturday night we had to watch "The Porter Waggoner show" "The Wilburn Brothers" and "Cryin" Bill Anderson show. One Saturday Grandma was out visiting..and me and my Grandad watched Wrestling....we were hooked.....then each week we would argue over which to watch.....Grandma usually won...but sometimes she'd give in...LOL

At the time we only had a Black and White set and could not afford another TV.

My suggestion?? Take him to a Derek show near a park and get him real drunk beforehand - it's been known to "work."

Royal Rumble time!

I'm predicting a Rey Mysterio victory, then the WWE can get down to some serious exploitation of Eddie's death by running a "Rey's gonna win it for Eddie" storyline all the way to Mania. I'm sure the Rey/Eddie t-shirts have already been printed.

Not that I'm surprised or anything. I stoped shaking my head in disgust at Vince years ago.

You nailed it Bhawk! You must have some inside info.
Are you telling me that it's going to be a Cena/Rey main event?
HHH has got to find a place for himself in there somewhere?

Nope. Cena-HHH. Angle-Orton was the scheduled other title match before Rumble. The Mysterio Rumble win could up ending being nothing more than a swerve. We'll see.

The only other for sure match for Mania is Undertaker-Mark Henry (yawn). As far as special appearances go:

Rock - nope
Austin - nope
Hogan - this could change at any time, but, at this point, nope.
Foley - they are kicking around a tag match - Flair & Foley vs. Chris Masters and Carlito

You can probably pencil in a Trish-Mickie title match. More updates as they come along, remember, we've got a Smackdown PPV between now and then.

Your Wrestlemania update, brought to you by Triple H...

Five matches are scheduled for Mania at this point:

HHH vs. Cena for the WWE Title
Randy Orton vs. Kurt Angle for the World Title*
Vince McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels
Mick Foley vs. Edge
Undertaker vs. Mark Henry

(I know, I know. Rey Rey won the Rumble. Orton is going over Rey at No Way Out to take the title shot. Pretty much expected that Orton will go over Angle at Mania as well.)

I wonder if tonight's Dog Show will be more or less entertaining than Raw has been these past couple of months.

I might just rent "Best of Show" in case the dog show bores me to sleep. Fred Willard gets me rolling on the floor holding my belly no matter how many times I see that.

Solid all around, Joe vs. Styles vs. Daniels was good, but not as good as the one in September (I don't think that they could have lived up to that one anyway!)

But the Big News is that Christian Cage is the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Hope it lasts, or Jarrett gets hit by a bus. Whichever.

Amen to that. They're still going to tape it tonight and broadcast it Thursday. At least this week we'll have the advantage of reading spoilers to see if it's worth watching.

Didn't watch Wrestlemania, but I'll be in the house tonight for Raw at the Allstate Arena.

I want to know if there are any brothers or sisters here can do me a favor. As I might have mentioned earlier, my mom bought these tickets as a Christmas present for my son. We're all very greatful, as this event would have been outside of our budget, and the WWE only comes around about once a year or so. So, we're going to have a big "Thank you Grandma" sign that we'll hold up throughout the match.

If somebody out there can TIVO (or otherwise digitally record) Raw tonight and get me a copy via DVD-R disc or MPG or AVI or something like that, I would greatly appreciate it. My objective to get a nice clear screen shot of us holding up the poster, and get a nice still print made of the image and give it to my mom.

Thanks

I have it on my DVR, but the best I can do is transfer it to VHS. I'd be more than happy to copy it to videotape, if that helps?
