Okay, that was quick. I didn't jump on the presale, for the reasons I explained yesterday, but I did experiment a bit. I doubt if there were any $40 or $75 tickets in the presale at all. The best I did (if I had been planning on making a purchase), would have been a single in section 2 for $300, or a single in section 112 for $200.

It seemed it didn't start until about 9:05, and by 9:18, not even a single in any section was available. So what's that, 13 minutes? Not too bad.

I'm pretty confident I'll be able to score three cheapies tomorrow.

How did you do, Bhawk?

I'm gonna jump in on the HHH discussion and disagree that he can work. What ability he had in the ring is long gone since his leg injury a few years ago and also his steroid or HGH usage also. He's too big and can't move and really isn't good at doing anything except the typical WWE kick, punch and stomp. What sets him apart from the other stiffs they have "wresting" for them is his ability to tie in the use his knee in his offense. He's gotten where he is today by being very good at the political end of the business and by getting hitched to the bosses' daughter (kinda like another mega overrated stiff in wrestling's past one Larry Zybysco who was married to Verne Gagne daughter). I doubt very seriously he has done much to ever sell tickets or PPV buys since his biggest matches were against the biggest stars of the late 90's. Until Austin and Foley and Rock started to fade out due to injuries and acting and whatelse, he was playing 2nd fiddle to the big stars. He has in the past and will continue to undercut any new stars that might be trying to break thru (the same as the 800 year old Undertaker) in order to keep his spot at the top of the roster as an elite talent when his best days are 5 years behind him. I would imagine if one were to take a look at their ratings and PPV buyrates and ticket sales, when the big 3 mentioned above left, all the above went down and w/ HHH on top they aren't going to come up because people don't like him as either a face or a heel. Give me a Ole Anderson w/ a up to date moveset and I'll show you somebody that can put some rears in the seats.

Sold out.

I started hitting ticketmaster 2 minutes before the sale started, and didn't even get to a "find tickets" page until about 5 after 10:00. Then, nothing. My guess is that EVERY ticket was taken by brokers and special promotions. Either that, or the presale wasn't limited in any way, and everything went yesterday. Who knows.

The good news is that I got fairly good seats for RAW the following night. I've always thoght the RAW's the night after a PPV were always pretty good.

Peace.

Well, for me, the presale was an unmitigated disater, the details of which I don't even want to get into.

But, hey! I'm going to WrestleMania! The WWE is already claiming that it sold out in two minutes, well, I got tickets from probably around 10:04 to 10:10.

I ended up getting a pair in sec. 214 at $100, then I also got a single, then a buddy who was on the phone with me and trying at the same time got two singles...which is really cool because there are five of us going...we got very lucky! Got Raw tickets too. Haven't decided on the Hall of Fame ceremony yet.

I remember being about 11 or 12 and saw Lord Alfred Hayes vs. Andre The Giant in '74 or '75. There was an eldery woman at ringside every Monday night when I would go. And this was for the NWA Title if memory serves me right. Anyway, Hayes had racked Andre and was prancing aroung the ring when this woman got out of her chair, waved the Lord over, and as he stuck his foce down she just slapped the hell out of him. Told the man he was a mother f***er and then flipped him off. Hayes was stunned, I mean what could you do?

Years later when I saw Stone Cold flipping the bird at McMahon I just thought of this lady adn always wondered, was she Stone Cold's grandmother and did she live in Kansas?

Cool thread, reminded me of the old days here in Kansas when every Monday night we'd hit the convention center and see people like Harley Race, Alfred Hayes, Pat O'Conner and the ones that J.R. now calls the ledgends of the "business".

The old card that was posted had a name on it that says Steve Regal, now William Regal in WWE.

TNA is the most exciting of the "major" wresteling brands out there. Jeff Jarret DOES suck but A.J. Styles, Sabu, Petey Williams and Chris Sabin & Christopher Danials make it worth catching. You couldn't pay me enough to do what these guys do.

Favorite match of all time though was the Hell In A Cell match between Mick Foley & the Undertaker. Broken bones, teeth, thumbtacks, throwing a man off a 16 foot steel structure to the floor. Watch the replays a few feet off and Foley would gone splat on the concrete.

Good story. I watch TNA, but I'm not really getting much out of an hour a week. I think I've watched it four times, and I don't think I've seen A.J. Styles yet.

Actually, I did some research on the former Terra Ryzin and his effect on buyrates. Some things that stood out were:

***His return from injury on the 2002 Royal Rumble drew 670,000 buys, the highest non-Mania buyrate ever.

***All of the PPVs both late last year and early this year with main events involving the HHH-Batista build to Mania (the best storyline build in recent memory) all exceeded WWE forecasts.

***WrestleMania 21 was the highest-grossing pro wrestling event in history, in terms of buyrate, merchandise sales and live gate. Over 1 million PPV buys. He was indeed in the main event.

I still can't stand the guy, and alot of the things you said about him are true, but he has left his own mark on the business.

On a kind of related matter, did everyone see Flair's promo on Monday? I've seen alot of blood, but, man, that was nuts. What did he use to blade with before he came out? A butcher knife?

One of the things I've really loved about wrestling over the years is the belts. I'm a complete "belt mark." I just love the things, Don't know why.

Anyway, I thought I'd pass along some pictures of a new belt that is just beautiful. After the passing of Shinya Hashimoto, they buried him with the IWGP (International Wrestling Grand Prix) belt for which he was synonymous. The IWGP began as a New Japan tournament in the 80's, and then grew into a full-time competitive title.

The "King of Belts," Reggie Parks, made the new IWGP belt that was won two weeks ago by Brock Lesnar. This thing is a complete work of art, and contains the names of all the past champions on the sideplates, except for the first IWGP winner, Hulk Hogan. Antonio Inoki made it very clear that he did not want Hogan's name on it. Anyway, here it is:

Hometown connection there. Jimmy Cornette went to my high school and Eric Watts was the quarterback for the University of louisville

Spike is giving them a two hour show on 11/3 and considering giving them two hours on a regular basis. That should help tremendously.

The TNA PPV this Sunday should be awfully darned good.

What happened or didn't happen.
How was that TNA PPV?

The McMahon's are getting a little out of control.

Okay...let's see. Tonight is Taboo Tuesday. The card for this PPV is complete garbage from top to bottom. If you haven't heard about the Jim Ross saga, (including the skit last week by Vince that was actually worse than the Katie Vick angle) Stone Cold Steve Austin was to wrestle Jonathan Coachman at Taboo Tuesday. If Austin won, JR gets his Raw announcing job back. If Austin loses, he gets fired. Well, apparently they actually asked Austin to do the job to Jonathan Coachman. Try and wrap your head around that one. I sure can't. Austin actually walked out of the meeting. So, last night on Raw, Coach comes to the ring and confesses that he is planning on bringing someone with him to Taboo Tuesday and, out walks, Goldust. Yup. Goldust. Vince comes out and announces that Austin has been in an "accident" and will not be at Taboo Tuesday. Vince has someone from the Smackdown side to take Austins place, which is, of course. Funaki. Yup. Wait, It gets better. Coach and Goldy beatdown Funaki and Vince says there's someone else from SD! that wants in, and out walks Batista. Batista comes to the ring and starts to whup some a** when out comes...Vader. Yup. Vader. A 48-year old morbidly obese Vader, who actually beats down Batista, the World Heavyweight Champion.

They actually made a Divas segment boring, and this was the modeling act for the outfits they would wrestle in on the PPV. In a related note, Torrie Wilson has been fired from the WWE.

John Cena and HBK were in the main event, ending with a run-in by Kurt Angle. The boos for Cena are getting louder every week. Too many people have now realized the guy is a truly awful worker.

Oh, and Rob Conway was given a beatdown by Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Kamala, Jimmy Snuka and Jerry Lawler.

Triple H beat Viscera. There's a matchup. HHH wrestles Flair in a cage tonight. They could have gotten 6 months out of a Flair-HHH feud, instead they are hotshotting it.

Sigh.

Really, really, really good. Rhino beat Jeff Jarrett for the NWA Heavyweight Title, AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels had a phenominal Ironman match, Samoa Joe vs. Jushin Liger was short but good, and the Ultimate X was really good until the end. All in all, they are headed in a good direction. Their two hour show on Spike this Thursday should be very good, even if Jarrett will probably win the belt back from Rhino. In TNA though, the X Division Title means alot more.

That's a good way to put it. It is becoming more and more clear that they have absolutely no idea what their audience wants to see.

More questions:
Who's Funaki?
Why did Torrie get fired?

Cena is garbage.
Where's the Rock?

He's the only guy I can see saving WWE.
Unless all the Divas do a porn together.

Too old. By WWE standards.

Vince let his contract expire earlier this year and didn't renew him. Amicable split, still very friendly. Rock is 100% focused on movies.

How much $$$ do you think Diva merchandise
generates for WWE?

At my house on Monday nights, I get home about 6, run any necessary errands, do something for dinner, and we're all in front of the TV at 8:00 with snacks and drinks.

For three weeks in a row now, I've fallen asleep by around 8:45.

Sizeable, but not as much when compared to their other revenue streams.

Droog, you stay awake long enough last week to see Vince pulling objects out of JR's "a*s" skit?

AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!

quote:
Joey Styles was flown out of nowhere to San Diego to meet with Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn today about taking over as the lead announcer on Raw, and he may debut on tonight's PPV. This is an amazing about-face, because just a few days ago the office feeling on Styles was that they wanted nothing to do with him.

The new feeling is they have to drop the Jim Ross storyline because they realized they have no way out of it. Jim Ross' job is not on the line in tonight's match with Batista vs. Coachman. The feeling is the company needs to move on from Ross, that Coachman simply can't handle the job after his performance last night nor is the idea of a heel play-by-play guy, a few days ago touted as a new novel approach to TV, one that can work long-term. Styles is now believed by the company to be the only person that fans may accept in the Ross chair without a significant backlash.
