When we could no longer smoke in Louisville Gardens we moved to seats by the heels' dressing rooms so we could yell at them. Now don't get me wrong I like the heels if it weren't for the bad guys wrestling would be boring. There's nothing worse than a "scientific match". That's beer & restroom time.

One night we were sitting there by the dressing room sitting in the section by the dressing room door the late Eddie "Hot Stuff" Gilbert was sitting there eating nachos. I don't remember what the match was but his brother Doug Gilbert may been in the match. Eddie was sitting there eating his nachos when his cue came. He set his nachos down ran into the ring and interfered. Then ran back to seat and finished his nachos.

I was about 10 or 11 is when I came to the realization wrestling wasn't on the up and up. The reason was I was at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee with my mom picking up my sister up from a flight back from Phoenix and off another plane from Minneapolis steps all the AWA wrestlers together, good guys and bad guys Superstar Billy Graham, Black Jack Lanza, Larry Hennig, Cowboy Bill Watts, Bobby Heenan, Vern Gagne, Maddog Vachon, The Crusher, all talking, yukking it up and joking and walking together. They had a match that night at the Milwaukee Auditorium. My sister who was 18-19 at the time walks up to them starts flirting and talking to them all and we wind up talking to them all for 5-10 minutes and I walked away with about 10 autographs , it was very cool. The light bulb finally went on.

At the airport in Milwaukee, they wouldn't let us board the plane at all, they said we looked suspicious, but I think they like to pick on me and Paul....

I remember going to some match, and there was quite a dramatic scene, lots of hollering and histrionics, etc..on the ay home we stopped somewhere to eat and ran right into the same two guys who had just put on the scene, eating together and having a good ol time...

Cowboy Bill Watts..hell yeah..I like this thread....

Last night's PPV results...from what I've read, this wasn't worth 35 cents, let alone 35 dollars.

quote:
WWE Presents No Mercy
Smackdown! Brand pay-per-view
Match Results

Dark match: William Regal & Paul Birchill b Brian Kendrick & Paul London

Road Warrior Animal, John Heidenreich and Christy Hemme b MNM & Melina when Hemme and Animal gave the Doomsday Device to Melina

Bobby Lashley b Simon Dean. Simon said he'd eat 20 cheeseburgers if he lost. This was a recurring theme throughout the show.

Chris Benoit retained the U.S. Title in a four-way with Booker T, Christian and Orlando Jordan when Christian tapped out to the crossface. Sharmell was pitching a fit and is apparently going to turn heel on her own husband.

Ken Kennedy b Bob Holly. Sylvain Grenier came in and attacked Holly. Gee, what a great feud to look forward to

JBL b Rey Mysterio clean after a Clothesline from Hell

The Ortons b Undertaker in a casket match. Undertaker put Bob out with a triangle and in the casket. After giving Randy a last ride and opening the casket to put Randy in, Bob sprayed him with a fire extinguisher. Randy hit the RKO, but Undertaker still recovered before the casket lid shut. Undertaker and Randy were both in the casket when the lid shut and Bob was out. They opened the lid and Taker was about to choke slam Randy when Bob distracted him and Randy clocked Undertaker with a chair. They shut the lid so the Ortons won. Randy poured gasoline all over the casket, as in a whole tank of gasoline and then they set the casket on fire.

Juventud Guerrera is the new Crusierweight champ after pinning Nunzio

Simon Dean just ate his 19th cheeseburger and threw up.

Batista b Eddie Guerrero. The match told a story, which was that Eddie constantly teased used objects but every time voluntarily gave it up. Mostly a scientific match with Batista winning clean with a spinebuster. Well below the usual WWE main event standard. Crowd was split. Lots of cheers for Guerrero, particularly as the match wore on Batista was getting booed more and more. The key point was when Guerrero had the chance to use a chair and didn't, the people booed him for not using the chair. The two shook hands at the end and people booed the handshake.

I wouldn't spend money on a WWE show.

I just don't like the direction that wrestling has gone

Incidentally, for those who haven't heard, there will be something quite different tonight if you watch Raw, Jim Ross is no longer an announcer on the TV show. He will be doing the "Ross Report" and also calling matches on WWE.com.

I like that new Bob Lashley dude, I remember the first time he beat the crap out of Simon. That was hilarious. It's obvious I haven't watched Smackdown in a while, I don't think I recognized half those names.

I'll get a PPV every now and then if Jr. has been particularly good w/keeping up with homework, chores, etc. - probably pick a Raw or combined show over a Smackdown show, though. As Booker T said when he first migrated, Smackdown's the minor leagues.

Okay fellas, I'm a bit psyched.

When my mom learned how into wrestling my 11-year-old was, she offered to buy tickets for our family to the next WWE appearance in Chicago. Well, we've been patiently checking the site and ticketmaster etc., and have seen no mention of any Chicago dates.

Until last night, that is, when we see it announced that WRESTLE-FRICKING-MANIA will be in Chicago this Spring! Woo-Woo! Jr., the wife and I will be going to Wrestlemania XXII.

Cool beans. Now, tickets go on sale this Saturday, 10/15, at 10:00 central time. I see there's a presale starting at 9:00.

Anybody know how to get in on that presale? Bhawk, perhaps?

Thanks.

How'd you guess? There was a presale email you had to send some months ago. I just got the email yesterday saying that the presale passwords will be emailed tomorrow. I'll happily pass it along to ya...

Concerning Mania in Chicago, Here's how it will go...The WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony will be the Saturday night before Mania at the Rosemont Theater. Tickets last year were between $20-$45. Many of us are already hoping, however, that the Ring of Honor promotion (East Coast based, their shows are incredible, they do lots of wrestling with lots of old-school match psychology and very little storylines) will run a show that night in Chicago Ridge, a regular stop for them.

Wrestlemania 22 will be at the Allstate Arena Sunday, April 22, 2006. The ticket pricing structure is as follows: $750, $300, $200, $100, $75 and $40. There is no page on Ticketmaster as of yet, and, WWE being WWE, we have no idea exactly what price ranges will be available in the presale.

There will be a Raw taping the next night at the Allstate Arena. We were hoping to get a double taping, however, Smackdown that week will be taped in Indianapolis on Tuesday.

We've already got our reservations at the Residence Inn O'Hare...we just need the tickets!

Anybody catch Raw last night? Wow. The McMahons are back in active roles. What is this, 1999? Also just wonderful of Hunter McMahon burying Ric Flair and the IC Title all in one fell swoop. Doink the Clown? Jesus, are they going backwards, or what?

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'd like to hear more about this thing in Chicago Ridge. That's just a couple miles from my old neighborhood (where my mom still lives). Are you local, or will you be travelling in?

We won't know about ROH having a show until probably February or so. They do have an upcoming event in Chicago Ridge November 5th...I have not seen this promotion live but I have seen several DVDs. If you are a fan of actual wrestling, do whatever you can to go see these guys.
Here's their event link: http://www.rohwrestling.com/upcomingevents.asp?intCategoryID=2&intArtic leID=34

I'm in Kansas City now, (my hometown) but I lived in Chicago from 1999-2004. (Riverside for a year, North Side/Irving Park & Pulaski for 2 years, Brookfield for 2 years) and my wife's family is all still there as well as my brother...so Chicago will always be my "adopted" hometown.

I think I'll go check out that ROH thing in November. I see AJ Stiles is going to be there. My son's a big fan of his (just bought the action figure yesterday ). That'll be a nice lead-in to the big surprise in April. Thanks for the heads-up on that.

Peace.

Hunter had just wanted to do one more angle with Flair. He wasn't lying when he said that he worshipped the ground Flair walked on, his two biggest idols are Flair and Harley Race. You'll notice that he still takes alot from Race's old style. They've also kicked around reforming a new Evolution, With HHH, Chris Masters, Carlito and Tyson Tomko.

Of course, HHH will come out on top in the end. (He will make sure of that!) Flair is so over as a face right now that this feud will generate alot of heat. Plus, it provides the just right amount of filler time before they begin the HHH-Cena program that will build all the way to Mania, which, given that HHH has done the job the last two Mania main events, I'm sure that Mania will be all about HHH and him winning the title.

But, hey, the WWE is always all about HHH.

Say it ain't so! I hate triple HHH (yeah, I know I'm supposed to, but it comes easily to me ).

Think we're seeing a Cena/Big Show partnership developing?

The Allstate Arena is the old Rosemont Horizon. The Rosemont Theater is on River Road across the street from the Convention Center.

Droog, I got that right, right?

I hate the guy, but, he can work for sure. The two things that bug me the most about him are:

1. The fact that he's married to Stephanie and he consistently denies that that has anything to do with creative decisions.

2. The fact that he's gotten his huge push after Rock and Stone Cold have long gone, so he has no problem carrying himself any way he wants, and, besides, being a good heel is in many ways easier than being a good face simply because you don't need to count on charisma for crowd approval.

3. The fact that the guy is unable to cut a promo shorter than 45 minutes.

4. The fact that Raw is "The HHH Show."

Oh, my that's four things...

Yes. The Rosemont Theater was built right around the time the Rosemont Horizon became the All-State Arena. In fact, it was initially billed as the "New" Rosemont Theater. I think it sits 4200 or 4400 or something like that. The ABB have played there the last two years.

It may be easier to be a heel these days I don't know. But back when I was watching wrestling you had to be able to talk some sh!t. Get the fans riled up. They would do the interviews on the saturday TV show promoting the weeks' matches. Their's a skill to being good with the interview. It's one of the things that I think is lacking in wrestling today.

Nothing like hearing Jerry Lawler talk about his Southern Heavyweight Title belt. " It's my belt, it's always been my belt, and it's always gonna be my belt".

Another of my Lawler favorites. " I'm gonna go through Bill Dundee like Exlax through a widow woman".
