I've subscribed to 'Hittin the Note' magazine for 3 or 4 years now. In that time I've bought a good amount of product from Kid Glove. About $500 each year. Sweatshirts, CD's, T-shirts, cups, books, posters.......... Enough stuff that my wife and my friends think that I'm some kind of oddball. But I did want a different ABB shirt for every day of the month. Everything was cool.

A few months ago, my credit card info was pirated from Kid Glove's less than secure website. I ended up with a few hundred dollars of fraudulent charges. It finally got cleared up, but it was a pain in the ass. I spoke to Rob Johnson about it. He said they were fixing their site.

Last month I ordered about $100 worth of stuff. CD's a shirt and a 2005 Beacon poster. Here's where it went bad. The CD's and shirt were OK, but whoever mailed the poster folded and creased it. It looks like crap. Again I called Rob to let him know. Rob said that I should mail the poster back to him and he'd send a replacement.

Well, getting a tube for the poster, and getting to UPS and paying to ship it didn't make sense to me for a stinking ten dollar poster. It'd cost me ten bucks to send it back. So I told Rob that being that I considered myself a good customer, that he should just send me a replacement to save me the return hassle. Rob said, "No. It's a new regime at Kid Glove and we're running it like a business." I did explain that if I were going to steal (I don't), it wouldn't be for ten dollars. Rob said that his decision is final. I think a standard business practice would be to send me a tube to return it with the postage pre-paid.

Is it me? Is this a classy way to treat someone who has treated you well?

Is it a good business decision? Make someone who bought $500 a year go away.

Well, what do y'all think? I've supported them. Have they supported me? I don't think so.

It does sound like you could have been treated better. I can't say I've had a similar experience as I've never bought anything from them. I was going to buy a baseball cap but when I found that the postage overseas was going to be more than the hat I decided against it. I think a few more mailing options should be available at least.

Why would you need a tube for the poster to mail it back
if it is already creased?

Just put it in an envelope. and drop it in a mail box. No
way does that cost ten bucks.

It's already ruined right? You're making harder than it need be.

I've always found the folks at Kid Glove to be nice, friendly and helpful.

As I patiently tried to explain to Mr. Borowski, we'd be happy to refund the postage once we received the poster in question. He would not have been out ten bucks, not in the long run.

"Rob said that his decision is final."

I said no such thing. As I also explained at length, this wasn't "my" decision in any sense of the word. I'm a fairly low man on the totem pole.

"I think a standard business practice would be to send me a tube to return it with the postage pre-paid."

It doesn't make a lot of sense to replace something when you don't have any proof that the original item is broken or damaged. Any business that had that as a "standard practice" wouldn't be in business for very long.

Can't say that all my dealings with HTN have gone smoothly, but ALL problems have been resolved quickly & fairly.Special thanks to my personal HTN subscription manager,Miss Vicky.

A freind of mine has this sign behind the cash at his shop:

Please accept our apology for your product problem.Obviously this is our fault.
We will gladly return your money, initiate a class action lawsuit on your behalf, have the salesman who sold it to you shot at dawn and close the doors of the business due to our ineptitude. Will this make you happy ?

Rob is a stand-up guy and all those at HTN have never treated me anything but great in all my business dealings with them. Sounds you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

If they don't run it like a business they won't be around to offer all the great services that they provide. Once all the ILs sold out the first time where would you have been able to get them if you missed out? eBay? Talk about not secure....

BTW, just heard Good Clean Fun in the outro to commercial of the Cubs game on WGN. Their new play-by-play guy, Len Kasper (who is outstanding, IMHO) has quite a volumunious knowledge of music and always talks up great bands who are coming to the Windy City.

I am glad they re-did there site as my information was taken as well someone tried to pay a chicago parking fine with my cc and some overseas charges lol. My card spotted it quickly and called me.

Returning the poster seems like a reasonable request from any business. If your not satisfied return the product.

Well that's the standard from other outfits that I buy from including Procter & Gamble(a company that's been around a while), Gillette, as well as Holt's Cigars who is a small company such as Kid Glove.

For a few years everything was cool. I had one problem, it didn't work out to my satisfaction. Cool. You win. I'm gone.

well i've worked with companie that send out replacements before return of the original.
But they charged my card for the second and credited for the return of the defective.
but that was time critical items like a server part.

How time critical is a poster?

I once had to return a defective Instant Live disc. It was promptly replaced and as I recall, didn't cost me anything in the end as I was credited for the return postage. It would never have occured to me that I should recieve a new disc without first returning the defective one. I believe the return policy is spelled out pretty clearly on the site isn't it? Anyway, don't take it so personally Bill, it's not that K/G dosn't trust you, it's just the way things work.

It would seem to me that this is an issue that doesn't belong on the board - I've had only 1 problem with HTN over the years; I might have wanted it resolved faster than it was but it was resolved and I never felt the need to post about it.

There is no reason to treat anyone like that. Could this be a
small insight as to the demise of music? MONEY! Brother Duane
woulda told em to shove it.

I ordered a few posters about a year ago. They arrived creased in the center and the corners were bent. I E-mailed the site or I might of called. They sent me new posters. I was never asked to send anything back. I have also had problems with mules merchandise. I believe it is run by music today. I ordered about 20 posters. The idiots packaged all 20 posters in one tube. Over half the posters located in the center were creased and bent. I called them, and they told me to send the bent ones back. I told them that they needed to package the posters in several tubes. A week later, I received four bundled tubes. Did I send the bent ones back? No. I called them back, and I told them that I was not going to cover shipping charges. They told me to keep the bent ones.

Most retail businesses have this as a standard business practice. Why? They look at a customer's life time value. If they hassle them, they my prevent future purchases. Most companies keep databases on customers. If a pattern develops, the company knows what type of person they are dealing with.

Hittin the Note uses this board as a way to advertise. It would seem to me it is appropriate. There are others that advertise on this site. I have seen band plugs, book reviews, and others. I would like to see this site charge people that use it on a regular bases to advertise.

for what its worth: if Billy has averaged around $500 a year as a loyal customer, I would have thought that they could have just sent him the tube with postage for the return or sent him a fresh one that's not creased up and and forgone having him return the bent one. I'm assuming he's a trustworthy person and just mad for collecting ABB memorobilia - not out to con Kid Glove for a poster.

Sorry if I my view seems to go against the grain of others here - yes, business has to have ground rules but I think sometimes they need to review the individual customers case by merit.
