I suspect these will earn a few jeers (thanks to the overplay on Soft-Rock), but back in the day both were major releasess:


Summer Breeze, S&C's 3rd LP came out in 1972 and spent 100 weeks on the Billboard top album list, it even ended up #2 for the year 1973


Rundgren's 1972 release of his thrid album caused a lot of buzz because he played all the instruments.

The Police and the Stranglers come immediately to mind on that point Alan . . . both had equally excellent first two albums followed by dreadful third offerings.
