How many Duane-era concert tapes or CDs are floating around out there?

I know with led zeppelin bootlegs they sometimes put a show that will fit on 2 cds onto 3 cds just so they can charge more money.Maybe that happened here also?

First, thanks to all who answered this. I was surprised (and disappointed a bit) to find out there are so few shows, considering the grueling schedule the band kept up--something like 250 shows per year. Sigh. Maybe others will turn up.....

Second, as far as the number of CDs goes, some of this may depend on the sequencing of the songs. If they are burned in the order played and a long song would start when there's only 15 minutes left on a disc, it would ideally be the starting song on the next disc. If the burner wanted the maximum amount of music and the minimal number of discs, he (or she) might resequence the songs.

I did this when I made a cassette of Stony Brook from Sept. 1971 (so I could play it in my old-fashioned, CD-less car). If I'd taped the songs in the CD sequence I'd have had to use two tapes with a lot of blank space. Instead I re-ordered them so the two CDs fit comfortably on both sides of a 110-minute tape.

Is this the actual available recordings?? Like Bootlegs?? I checked the tape trader post here on the sight and there are reviews for alot of shows not on this list. Or do you think those are miss dated??
I traded the old way for years with tapes at shows and friends. Then fell out of it. Come to find out there is this new technology called CD burning..... I am old school. Anyway. I am trying to get some Duane stuff back and want to be thorough, Is the list above an accurate show list, or should I go off of the tape trader part of this site??
If anyone out there wants to trade any Duane era stuff, I don't have alot. But I do have some newer allmans, Mule, Widespread, Dead etc etc. Let me know I'd love to get some more. Thanks

It may not seem as though there are very many Duane era recordings available but here is food for thought; From the early 70's through to 2003, (when I found this web site and learned about trading) I made do with Beginnings, Fillmore East, Eat A Peach, and Ludlow's Garage. And during that 30 years, those 4 albums would wear out but they never got old.

amen, amen. brother marion. don't forget the anthologies. i had 2 on an 8 track that i wore out.

i've been a musician since i was a kid. i really can't play without pain anymore and a few years back, i gave up on music. i didn't hear it in my head anymore. i didn't want to listen to it. seeing Bonepony live in knoxville healed me and gave me a reprieve from that bad attitude. for that, i am eternally grateful to scott johnson and his wonderful songs.

Duane was always a hero to me, up there with Coltrane and B.B. King and live Cream Clapton and maestro hendrix (as far as i'm concerned, B.B. is the single most important post-WWII electric guitarist. i mean, it was seeing B.B. that stoked Duane's fire, yes?)

anyway, i had no clue there were concert recordings beyond the major label releases. it just never occured to me. the courage, the fire, the inherent melodicism of brothers duane and dickey have been revealed to me( been a fan for 25+ years) AGAIN in ways i could have NEVER comprehended.

i was listening to "superball" festival show and became slack jawed.

i say that the second chorus duane plays on "done somebody wrong" at the Sunday night Fillmore closing show is stunning in its emotional impact. this is why we are all here, the emotion behind the notes.

if you are in a hurry, go to the sugarmegs site. the realplayer media section has quite a few 70 and 71 shows, some from 69 and even the set of the allman joys.

you want to talk about professionals. those boys had it THEN.

he was the leader for a reason. people respected him and his talent. all these gentlemen musicians who were called to play music by something inside them should be honored as they deserve. that silly rolling stone poll got it right 35 years later, but it should be rated on impact, not popularity and B.B., Jimi, Duane and Bloomfield before any "limey bastard"(LOL).

the ABB wasn't planned, dickey said...but i think it was....by the good Lord above. i know because i am healed even more by my reimmersion in the music of that i never knew existed.

Can we get the ABB to release a few of the better quality shows through this site. I keep beating this dead horse, the Duane shows are the shows most wanted by the fans who come to this site. I wonder how the last 2 relaeses did against the first ones with Duane?

2 Stormy Monday
3 Liz Reed
4 You Dont Love Me

what about this one? I also noticed that I've got 2 or 3 bootlegs with the same title but different date (it's always the same month and year, only day is different).

This is actually 4/28/70 at Stony Brook State U) but the setlist looks like 7/26/70 at Stony Brook.
There's also a 3/13/71 Fillmore East date....there are 2outakes from Live At FE- -Statesboro and One Way Out.

Always great and miraculous to hear of new Duane show discoveries.......

Years ago, Kirk West referred to the "best version of 'Dreams' that nobody's ever heard" or something similar. Considering how good Stony Brook from Sept. 1971 is, his comment piques my curiosity no end. And I can't believe there's only one remaining Duane-era show waiting for us...

As far as date and venue info goes, there's a blur factor with live recordings, and few ways to verify them. For example, I've twice gotten recordings that were supposed to be from the Boston Tea Party. The sources don't know each other, but the recordings were identical: half of the April, 1970 Ludlow Garage set. Who knows how long the misidentified music's been floating around? I take info at face value because it's all I can do, although sometimes there are hints that make it less difficult to be sure.

Regardless, a good show is a good show.

Thank you Diggey for reviving this thread. I was away for a while and must have missed it. It is of great interest to me.
Let's assume for the moment that we share an interest in Duane era ABB music, not at the expense of the present lineup, but rather as something there is a finite amount of that we want to know all about.
Is there a list of all of the "Duane with" bootlegs? (blueskyluver2345? Masahiko? Clay?) i.e. Delaney & Bonnie w/Duane & King Curtis 7/22/71 A&R Studios. I don't
see a place for these on this site or on etree.

Regardless, a good show is a good show.

most, if not all the legit Duane era shows have been authenticated by official band records. and while i agree there may be a few that are wrong, I'd say the vast majority are correct.

I wish the guys who know (Kirk West?) would tell us what shows or shows they are trying to get. If it does not happen so be it. But at least keep us in the loop. It is not like this is a national security issue. I think the fans like to be informed and will respond better when they know what is going on. After all this is a fan based site.

Marion makes a good point, for many years LAFE and EAP were all the live Duane-Berry era shows there were, and I for one never tired of them! I do recall sending away for boot LPs of Watkins Glen and 10/15/71 "back in the day," but the quality was so bad I lost interest in boots -- until coming here!!

Personally I think there are more than enough good 1969-71 shows out there as it is. Besides Ludlow Garage, 2/11/70 at F. East, Atlanta Pop and the two archive releases, there are numerous excellent shows to be traded for. My first three concert tapes (yes tapes) were 7/26/70, 6/27/71 and the best one of all of them, 8/26/71 A&R Studios. Throw in 1/17/71 Pittsburgh, 2/28/71 Missouri, and 9/16/71 N. Orleans, and that is several excellent shows of this sick band. Man what incredible good fortune.

These are treasures, one and all -- none more so than LAFE and EAP.
