CAN'T BELIEVE I missed out on this....they were taking pre-sales through November so I thought I still had time. I will kick myself forever for blowing this one.

They said once these were gone they were gone. Any of our resident Deadheads know if they will do another printing due to the overwhelming response?

DAMN IT!

I actually tried to order the day it sold out....missed it by THAT much.

I emailed them and asked to be put on a list in case some credit card orders were declined, but they won't do that either.

S.O.L. is the reality of it. Brings up an interesting internal debate for those of us who honour the bands demands as far as copying official releases. I always buy the official release...but when I can't, when they refuse to make anymore copies of it what do I do? Suffer? Buy it at an EXORBIANT price on ebay? Or burn it from a friend? The ebay money doesn't go to the band either.

My only hope is that like HTN, who reprinted some of the more popular Instant Lives when they had to satisfy the demand, maybe the folks at dead.net will get a little bit greedy and do a second run when they realize the money they are losing by not meeting the demand.

I was REALLY looking forward to this. The Dead at their absolute peak, IMHO.

It has been rumoured that the individual shows may be put up for download eventually - possibly...

(Thank God I got my order in early, is all I can say)

they'll be selling the individual shows, and a 2 or 3 CD set with a "best of" from what I have heard.

if they reprint the box set, it completely negates the whole point of having a limited edition.

That, and if all you really want is the shows...there are some absolutely amazing sources of all four nights out there.

I got the email about it when it was first announced. My wife was with me, she said "That will make a great birthday gift" as my birthday is a few days after Christmas.

I told her to order it asap, and never mentioned it again until Sept 9..I think that's the date...and I asked her if she ordered it. She told me she forgot, so I said I better do so right now so it doesn't get left 'til the last minute. I went online, and found out it had sold out that day.

GDM released a cd called Terrapin Station years ago, it's sales went to charity if I remember correctly. They said they wouldn't reprint it...but then they changed their mind and went ahead and did it.

If they can do that once, they can do it again.

Offering only 10,000 copies is BULLSh!T; if they wanted to have it limited, why not limit it to pre-order sales? Make as many as the pre-orders you get.

We've already seen that they would have had more orders...at least two according to this thread and I'm sure there's more....why not satisfy the demand?

Seems like marketing is getting in the way of sharing the music. Biting the hands of the fans that feed ya isn't typically a smart move.

Well the positive side of the limited edition is that the band obviously isn't concerned about the profit for once. It seems that marketing has been exploitative of the band if you ask me. And to note they are separate from the business of the band too. I think to say that you are going to suffer is ridiculous when there have been people truly suffering so close to home. Regardless if you need the music that bad there are tons of excellent recordings in circulation in the Vines section. Go sign up for a few and give thanks!

I don't recall anyone talking about suffering here....perhaps you're just being righteous and condescending?

seems like you missed the point of limited edition. There's supposed to be less available than is wanted.

Since you or your wife both put off ordering the set, that's not GDP's problem, is it? Just go out and look for the individual shows once they come out, or *gasp* trade for the recordings already out there...I have em, and theyre frickin great. You wanna see the packaging it came with, or read the book it'll come with...find a friend who ordered it and do so.

I didn't miss the point of the limited edition...I just think it's bullsh!t, as I stated once before.

You are speculating that it will be released individually, but GDM hasn't indicated that it will happen; you're just spouting heresay.

What's the point of making it "limited" anyway? Bragging rights?

Might as well just burn the whole set from a friend if I'm going in that direction.

And you don't understand the difference between the official release and a traded version do you? You see if you burn the box set off of a friend that is taking money out of the band's pocket. I'm sure you don't want that. But the traded versions recorded by tapers in the audience have been circulating for years, are not remastered and presumably of a lesser quality, which is why they will still be allowed to circulate.

Look no one here is trying to pick a fight with you over this. But your last comment was truly ignorant and you will get some pretty harsh responses much worse than me calling you out, which I did incidentally because it was apparent that you were not familiar with some of the etiquette for acquiring & safeguarding the live music that is spread very freely around here.

When someone says they are willing to illegally duplicate an official release it makes me and some others want to defend our board where we get our music.

So if you are planning on responding to this post with anything other than an apology you have another thing coming friend.

Not if they aren't selling it...maybe you missed the point?

I am willing to pay for it...but if the band won't accept my offer than I can take it any way I can get it.

No money is being lost...the band isn't accepting money.

And Slowhand6; you can stick the apology up your butt...I'm sure it will get to your brain faster.

That is illegal and you are wrong. It is very similar to the Instant Live policy. Those shows come out in limited numbers. Those that miss buying one are simply out of luck. The buyer is allowed to make on copy (by law) for their own personal use. After that (by law) it is illegal.

I guess asking you to apologize or even retract is a bit too much. However you have placed yourself out here for the rest of the members of this website to see. I hope you don't come around the Trades & Vines Forums because without trying to understand the community of people with whom you are participating, who knows what you plan to do with the stuff we pass around over there- sell it? With the kind of comments you have made I will never share my music with you. You can go on suffering as far as I'm concerned.

I must say I never intended this thread to take such an ugly turn when I started it...

....and I must say that I completely agree with slowhand6's interpretation of the Limited Edition No Trade Policy, even though I missed out.

I work in a record store, and I've heard several people speak about individual releases...so heresay its not.

I wouldn't use the words bragging rights, but limited editions are quite common...but purely in speculation, a ten disc set would HAVE to be limited edition...a million cds isnt cheap to make or have made.

as for burning from a friend or geting the shows traded to you, thats your choice...but the better idea would be to take the trade.

If you burn your copy from a friend, don't air out your dirty laundry here.

Isn't it better to be participative & respect others rather than causing a stir?

umm....hearsay is what I meant...and what you are hearing is not official...correct?

Since it's not, it's gossip, speculation and hearsay.

When the limited edition was announced, the various copies of the show were taken off the Archives. In fact, every GD release results in the archives taking that show down...even if it's just an audience.

So, if we go by that....copying a friends copy{not of the official release} doesn't sound like something GD wants either.

That's my understanding of it as well. The Allman Brothers do it the same way with their official releases. Instant Lives are a little different though. The Allman Brothers and the Dead (last summer) allow tapers in to the venue where they are set up to do Instant Live. So the unofficial recordings are game for trade, for now anyway. But it appears that the recording industry is trying to hedge that out too. See the thread "Bootlegs go corporate".

Since you're trying to be civil, let me mention something;

quote:
Look no one here is trying to pick a fight with you over this.

Actually, your first post was condescending and righteous, as I mentioned twice before....so what did you expect?

You also mention trading for the shows...but as I stated in my last post, GD seems to be discouraging that too if it's officially released.

So what you are suggesting is wrong as well...but yet you're still high and mighty in your attitude.

If it's wrong to trade it, and it's wrong to bootleg the official release...then I can do neither without being wrong.

As I mentioned above, why not fill ALL the pre-orders..then call it done?

The only way to do no wrong is not to do anything.

You just can't take whatever you want regardless of the rules (ie. limited run on the series. If you didn't order your copy then tough!)

You know I don't know how it works in your part of Canada, but down here we follow the law and try to respect one another. At least in this community. And when someone acts like an ass, or makes assanine comments usually it's not tolerated.

I'm through with you and this ridiculous drivel. Go home.
