Awhile ago I posted the following the "Anything Goes" forum in responds to a question about the ABB doing a benefit concert for the victims of Katrina.

"There's no doubt in my mind, that in the coming month's there will be many benefits for the victims of Katrina. Musicians are as a bunch, whether they're "well known" or just some guys playing in a local bar, are generally very generous with their time and music being used to help others. Perhaps what might be a good idea is what I call "One Saturday Night". What that would be that all bands playing on a selected Saturday night would donate "the door" to aid the people of victimized by Katrina. To take it a little further, maybe we could get the clubs and restrurants to donate what they make at "the bar" that night. Any musicians/club and/or resturant owners out there interested in doing something like this? I think after I post this, I'm going to send this out to some people that I know that play in bands and/or work in the restrurant business and see if I can get something going. "

Lot of us were affected by images from New Orleans and the Gulf and even though many have been generous with time and money, in a lot of ways we would like to do more. I think a good way to do and show the "heart" of this extended ABB community would be through a idea that I call "One Saturday Night". In the above posting, I've kinda laid out how it would work. Basically, what we need is to come up with a date for "One Saturday Night", and of course, it would be left up to the bands, bar and club owners, ect to pick the charity that they want to support. Also, if someone has experience in setting a website, then that would be helpful in letting people know who's playing where in their particular local area, so they can go out and support this cause. Once again, I would like to thank all in this communty who have donated time, money, clothing and household items and even blood (y'all have donated to the Red Cross?) and also thoughts and prayers and love go out to the many in this community who have experienced Katrina in a more personal sense.

I think this a great idea. I am fortunate to make my living playing music and I have already planned a small benefit for next Sunday 9/11. We are playing at our home-base venue and it seemed like an appropriate day to give. We are donating our pay and the tip jar, which normally goes to our bar tab/gas fund, to the victims of the disaster. I am still trying to get the bar owner to buck up at least a percentage of his take. The recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas will no doubt depend heavily on private donations. Music benefits could definitely raise some much needed funding.

Hey Lefty,

Was getting ready to PM you and see if you would be interested in getting involved in this. So guess in your own way you already are Like the Oct 15 date has it's a Saturday and far enough down the road that people and bands and clubs can get things together. So hope you don't mind if I suggest that Oct 15 be date that we use. btw, send the particulars of this gig (venue, city, time and charity you're supporting) and we'll get a list started.

btw, to you and yours thanks for having a heart
Fred B.

Going to ^bump" this back up.

Now if your band has (or can get) a gig on Saturday, 15 Oct. and is willing to contribute the door to whatever charity they feel is appropriate to help the people of New Orleans and the Gulf area then please list the following.

Band/Artist name
Venue
City/State
Time

Now let's see who'll be first to get on the list (hope we get a bunch) amd yes I do have faith that we will get a bunch.

1.
2.
3.
4.

First band in is (drum rolll please) is Lefty Collins and the No Mercy Band. To tell the truth, Lefty and his boys already had this gig booked, but certainly happy that consider themselves part of the "One Saturday Night". Thanks guys and hope you have "full house" down in Alabama. Once again, is you're in a band or know someone in band and can get a gig on the 15th of October and want to donate your door to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, please list here.

1. Lefty Collins and the No Mercy Band
Saturday, 15 October 2005
