While many of you may have seen this before, it is still somewhat new to me. I have enjoyed it so much that I thought I would share it.

http://earth.google.com/

It is a donloadable application which allows you to view just about any part of the planet. I have been checking out Red Square this morning while drinking my coffee.

Sorry... In retrospect, I feel like I should have posted this in AG. Oh well... Enjoy your weekend!

Hmmm, does that mean if I download this program, I can "virtually" be at Red Rocks when the ABB plays there?

I've been playing with that for about a month, pretty neat. I can zoom in almost all the way on my house.

Interesting sidebar: Microsoft has a version of this as well, one that grays out Area 51. Google's does not.

That would be nice! Unfortunately, it is not a real time application.

Thanks, Mike! I've heard of this but haven't DL'd it yet, though it's the type of thing I could use and would enjoy. When looking into places I'm traveling to or researching for other reasons, I often use related applications. Here's something different I've never seen before, though, from the earth.google homepage:
"Tilt and rotate the view to see 3D terrain and buildings."

According to the Index page definition of "Anything Goes," though, posts there should have something to do with the Allman Brothers Band--one of the most disregarded "rules" on the whole internet! Think of all the topics there for which the thread starters should have found more appropriate sections instead of just dumping everything in "AG"!

So, Mike, I think "Whipping Post" is the better catchall section for most non-ABB topics, even nonpolitical ones, such as this. Also, Linnie has a "Computer Tips & Tricks" thread toward the bottom of the index ("Everything Else" > "General" section) where the earth.google link would be at home.
