Anyone at this show see his antics ?

From today's New York Post:

August 24, 2005 -- GUITARIST Dickey Betts kicked out of the Allman Brothers Band because of his excessive partying is still at it. After a two-night stint at BB King's, Betts, the original Ramblin' Man, did a one- night at the famed Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J. Arriving too late for a sound check, Betts was so "tired" that he fell down when he bent over to look at the set list on the floor. Later, he lost his temper, muttered some indecipherable comments and tried to rid himself of his guitar. Betts got tangled in the strap, became even more frustrated and stormed off the stage. He slowly shuffled back a few minutes later. Hint, Dickey: Get some sleep

Does anyone know where I could find one of those lack-of-sleep support groups? Oh...wait, they'll just tell me to stop going to so many shows. Never mind, I'll stay sick.

please tell me that someone in Dickey's camp owns a video camera and is considering taping Dickey's shows and showing him what a **** up he's becoming, so he can get some help.

interactive intervention, I suppose.

I'm concerned about this whole situation. I know, for me, when I drink a good bit, I have to pee pretty often. Any reports of Dickey leaving the stage to go to the bathroom? There's lots of substances out there, painkillers, whatever. Medical conditions like diabetes, exhaustion, mental conditions. The next headline may be about this Brother's ultimate demise, God forbid. There's obviously a problem of some sort, it needs fixing. I hope those close to Dickey don't let it go on until a crisis evolves. Like myself, Dickey's no spring chicken. We've seen how sudden things can come upon us, with the recent history of Dru and Little Milton. Maybe Warren could make a call, I don't know.

all they, the management, have to do is watch the rock n roll hall of fame show. hell, thats on dvd and it's weak. i have seen dickey every time he is close and its hit or miss. the problem is the "missing" is avoidable.

Yes and it wasn't pretty. In fact, it was depressing.

From what I've seen in my life, people who get that trashed (drunk or otherwise FU'd) on a regular basis are not having a good time in life. Someone close to Dickey needs to help him identify the source of his unhappiness. We should all pray for brother Dickey.

Terribly unfortunate that Dickey is still having trouble; I wish him well. He's too great of a talent to keep letting this happen to him.

i was at the stone pony show. it was a joke. dickey could barely speak. i do think he needs major help. maybe warren or phil lesh or one dickeys close musical friends should give him a call. im surprised he plays so good considering how drunk he is all the time.

Dickey shows are definitly hit or miss. Saw him at BB's on the first night and he played well w/ only one minor hissy w/ his roadie. Chose not to push my luck at the Pony, although I was only a couple miles away on Saturday. Had a feelin' Bad Dickey was due to show up. As someone in recovery, I have to be sympathetic to what's he's going through. Get some help Dickey!!

The problem is that it's not happening to him, he's doing it to himself! You'd think that getting kicked out of a band that you mostly led since Berry died would cause a gut check, but he's went the other way. I first saw him with the Dickey Betts Band less than a year after his ousting and it was awful. He was real nice walking out, all heys and handshakes, but you could tell he was gone. I'd heard about the rumors of the booze, but it seemed like drugs to me. He was weak and couldn't even play Blue Sky! He looked at his guitar all puzzled while his backup (Mark May I think) did the solo. We must pray for Dickey and wish him well. Not that he's David Crosby, but should the brothers find some way to reconcile with Dickey. Whether it be a Family Tour or something. What a lineup. Gregg Allman and Friends, Dickey Betts, Gov't Mule, DTB, and Oteil and the Peacemakers! Never forget, Nobody alive can build a crescendo like Dickey on a good night!

Unfortunately so were Jimi,Janis,Bonzo & so many others.I don't think Dickey's gonna be around much longer if he doesn't get help soon.Really this happens all the time to people who just don't do it in front of hundreds(collectively thousands) of people, but the people around them say the same things. In the end I guess the only one who can help Dickey is Dickey

Man, I've been puffin' and my imagination is running wild with this. You guys know how Phish has done the big weekend bashes (Lemonwheel, Great Went, etc..), what about a huge FAMILY REUNION! A whole weekend of Jamming concluding with a Superjam on Sunday. Oh well, what's life without a dream.

He still played pretty well on Friday but could barely speak between songs.

Everyone who posts on his site is in denial though. If you read the GB overthere you would think it was all smooth sailing . Speak no evil, there's still shows to sell tickets to I guess.

I saw him back in March and he was really good but when I heard Dan Toler left the group, I knew something was up.
