Who cares?

He deserves the Dahmer death-by-broomstick-up-the-ass treatment, it should take days to administer the punishment, and Celine Dion should be playing in the background while it happens...{jail guards and "punishers" would be given ear plugs to drown out the horrible caterwauling of Dion}.

Better yet, let's have him in a cage match against Saddam....winner gets an enema with the laundry detergent of his choice.

Uh, no?

Its a shame he has to sit and suck the taxpayer tit for the next 50 years or so until he dies. They need to strap his ass to a gurney and let him ride the needle.

I am against the death penalty although it is not really a passionate issue with me.

I do not like the State having that much power, pure and simple.

I also think it is a better punishment for this guy and others like him to sit in a cell and rot for the rest of his life.

I am anti-death penalty, for personal belief reasons. I believe he should have to suffer the consequences of his evil deeds alive because they were so heinous. Death is not a punishment in reality...it only makes the living feel a psuedo justification, in my opinion. No rehab for people like this, they never were mentally OK to beginwith and they never will be.
Keep him off the streets and let the pot growers/sellers and smokers alone.

I respect your opinion but I do not share it...

I don't look at it as a punishment (or pseudo justification - justification for what?)... I see it as protecting more people from being hurt WHILE not putting the burdon on the rest of us to support people like this while in prison... God can judge him (won't his punishment be more suiting then anything we can subject him to anyway?)... I just want him in a position that won't allow him to do it again or cause me to pay for it... if that means death, so be it...

I think we've made pretty similar statements in the last thread about this subject...

Fine with me.
I would probably not have a problem with "lifetime" sentences if we could opt out of having to pay for it if we don't believe in it... otherwise I'm being forced to pay for something I don't agree with... this happens in a lot more places then just the death penalty... this is just one I feel that bothers me more then most.... the gov't wastes enough of my money and if we (I) need my money top take care of my family I would rather it didn't goto paying for him to live in prison.....

btw... if I offended you with my quip... I apologize... it was a weak attempt at light heartedness in a serious subject....

I know I'm sort of alone on this pretty much, and I'm cool with it. I respect that other people believe that killing someone for being a horrible human being is justified, but I guess I just don't see how it can satisfy the emotions deep down, even for the victim's family. I know I would feel like killing someone if they did anything horrible to any of my family or loved ones, sure...I'm human, and I woudl be outraged beyond belief, but I don't think it would make me actually feel better or help me deal with my own sorrow and loss. Nothing can help me with that except time and healing vibes, etc. I guess it's simplistic thinking on my part, but I remember, growing up, if someone made me mad or hurt me physically, my first reaction was naturally to retaliate and strike back, or hurt them with my words, and yea, for a few minutes, it made me feel good and I justified my actions, but later I always felt bad about it. I'm not a revengeful person because I believe in karma, so to me, 2 wrongs don't make a right, even if it seems like a good idea at the time.
I wouldn't want the burden of deciding to end someone's life on my conscious, regardless of how much anger or hurt they have caused me. And you're right, the person who committed the horrendous act will eventually have to be punished on a higher level.
As far as paying for their upkeep....I can think of alot of things I dont' like my money being used for by our government, but I'm not the sole member. " Yea, the world would swing If I were King" lololol

No offense taken. I just never figured Social Security into my financial planning. So I wouldn't miss it.

I'll take it then..............

I don't think it HAS to satisfy anything... I feel more like its removing a danger... of course I could be more detached then some people

well I WOULD feel like I wanna hurt them if it happened to me and I recognize that as a base emotion (anamalistic if you will) but this isn't "attatched" to me in anyway.... but the "feeling better" aspect would be in associated with revenge... but I don't see it as revenge (which I don't need as had I not read about this in news I would have never known about it)... like removing a cancer from a part of your body you didn't know was there and only found out about because something turned up in a routine medical exam... you know it's dangerous to leave it.....

I guess I just don't see it as "a wrong"... and I guess I don't see human life as being more precious then a animals in the "god" sense of things...

If it's wrong for one human being to kill another one, which pretty much is included in most basic religious and philosophical belief systems, then how could the killing of a human being ever be right or justified....particularly if the people deciding adhere to any religious beliefs (ie: Christianity)? I'm not implying that you are, just using it as an example. I dont remember any of Jesus' teachings that justified any sort of killing at all, so how do people justify it as a form of punishment, particularly in such a christian based society as the USA? It's rather puzzling to me. Ending life is ending life, regardless of the reason. I'm sort of thinking in broader terms than individual circumstances, I know.

I'd just as soon see the dude rot in prison for years, and THEN get whatever he has coming to him in the next life. Especially if he spent his time in the general population, for however long he would last. I'm sure in that scenario justice would be served many times over.

Same reasons that apply in any similar case. He doesn't deserve to live in my opinion, but I'm much more uncomfortable with the state killing people than I am with him spending the rest of his life in jail.

With any luck, just like Dahmer, the inmates will take him out shortly. There is no redeaming value or anything constructive to be learned in keeping him alive.

I don't understand why you would want him to killed in prison. That makes no sense at all. Either execute him or keep him in jail forever and away from the general prison population as much as possible. But don't expect a person you despise (a prisoner) to do your dirty work for you.

A lot of people like the idea of prison rape and murder because of the revenge factor. It's easy to understand why people want bad things to happen to sickos like Rader, but reading things like that always makes me feel ill.

I don't think he could be rehabilitated, even if he wanted to. As for the death penalty, what kind of punishment is that? That's the easiest way out imaginable. Give him a prison cell for the rest of his natural life. That's as bad a punishment as we have. We'll pay for it like we pay for everything else, we'll borrow the money from China.

There is no redeaming value or anything constructive to be learned in keeping him alive. Just as dogs are killed because they attacked a person. Or a bear is killed because it attacked and killed someone in a National park. This evil being should be put to sleep. One way or another.

Would you be willing to make the decision and carry out the punishment if someone were to deserve death? I couldn't
