i was wondering if I could get a decent tape using an mp3 player/recorder, I also have a panasonic mini-tape recorder thing, but I doubt that will yield any good sounding results. The mp3 player has a built in mic and so I was wondering if I was in the 13th row or something at an ABB concert would it distort the sound? Also, I know the ABB are against digital downloading of their music, so would this count since it's a digital recording?
The concert is 9/14 and I really would like to record it for a brother on here.

There is no short answer on this but.........

First is the built-in mic stereo? Without external mics raised up a bit, I do not know how it would sound. Give it a try, can't hurt. The ABB do not allow trading digitally ie: Bit torrent, but recording digitally is fine. Is there a line in on your MP3 recorder? Does it give you differnt sample rate choices???

Most likely no, but then again "decent" is purely subjective. You might.

Back in 1990 I had a Panasonic walkman type cassette recorder with a built in mic. I recorded a couple of shows with it at the Birchmere and at the local fair, and it did surprisingly well. It's not even close to what tapers can do these days, but those recordings are still very listenable.

So who knows? All I can say is it can't hurt to try. Just don't let it detract from your enjoyment of the show.

Good luck!
Dirk

i have a taper friend in colorado that now records using a nomad jukebox. it takes a stereo mini in and can be set to record wav instead of mp3. it can send output using firewire (you would need a pci firewire card on most pc's as most arent firewire enabled) or optical out as well as analog. i can post more info if people are interested. he doesnt use his dat deck any more i think.. so basically you can record raw cd's using it and then transfer to the files to a computer back home and burn full cd quailty sound.
hopefully that is useful info.

It seems very powerful and useful than DAT recorder.
