Doc is my favorite, but there are other good players. Michael Gulezian is awfully good, though he's not totally my style. He also likes the Allmans--Duane and Jimmy especially.

Anyone here ever heard of Tommy Emmanuel? Frankly this guy is scary. Any guitarists who even try and pick up an acoustic should watch him play and then see if you really want to bother any more :-)

Amazing stuff.

A buddy of mine here in Augusta named Doug Flowers. He's a bluegrass player by nature, and leads the church band I play in. He plays a great mandolin also. He used to play a lot of bluegrass festivals when he was in college, hanging out with the likes of Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stuart, Vince Gill and others, and even went back to Travis Tritt's place to burn a doob with him once. He opted for a career in education and is a family man now. He can still pick a guitar though!

John Fahey's stuff makes it's round in my music rotation.

Rev. Gary Davis-with a young blues fan.

Another favorite is Blind Willie McTell.

I also enjoy the acoustic excursions of John McLaughlin.

Good thread. Interesting title - is Clapton actually anybody's favorite acoustic guitar player?

Finsky, great picks, and great pics. Although the picture of Blind Willie McTell looks very much like Blind Boy Fuller. Think the "roots" section of the music industry is trying to pull one over on us?

Looking at them side by side, it's plain they're two different men, but perhaps they hired the same stylist, if there was such a thing in the 30's.

Nobody on this board has named Jorma Kaukonen? Well then allow me, please. I wouldn't say he's my favorite - that honor would be reserved for Stefan Grossman, who's really been the primary teacher and motivator in my own playing - but Jorma clearly deserves mention, and is certainly high on my personal list.

Peace.
