Hey you all !
I was thinking about this little game last night, I know it's been done here some way before. Instead of having a bunch of threads I'm only going to use this one.
I will name 2 bands, in an "A" versus "B" situation. You will vote for "your most favorite" of the 2 choices.
I will do 8 at a time. I will try to make the pairings interesting.
Most of the time I will tally up the votes after around a 24 hour time period (each day at work), but this first one I will not tally up until Monday...so i'm going to make it a good one.
All you have to do is label your votes in the way I will be doing mine at the bottom of this page.
The Winning bands will return and compete at a later time.
Please do not add any other "versus" in your voting post, it will cause a mix up.
Post your votes first and then leave any comments you would like to make after.......
Either we will have fun with it or we won't haha !
You do not have to vote on all, but please try to.
After I tally the votes Monday, I will start a new showdown in this thread.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
Music Showdown # 1
1- "Widespread Panic" VS "Little Feat"
2 - "Lynyrd Skynyrd(Ronnie V. era)" VS "The Black Crowes"
3- "Rory Gallagher" VS "Roy Buchanan"
4- "Johnny Winter" VS "Edgar Winter"
5- "Emerson Lake and Palmer" VS "Yes"
6- "Stephen Stills" VS "Neil Young"
7- "Led Zeppelin VS The Who"
8- Black Sabbath "Ozzy" VS Black Sabbath "Dio" VS Black Sabbath "Tony Martin"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------
Thats the first set, The ABB will make an apperance at a later date.
Here are my picks (also as an example), remember your not putting them in the order you like them...label them as to each numbered showdown above.
1- Little Feat
2- Lynyrd Skynyyrd
3- Rory Gallagher
4- Johnny Winter
5- Yes
6- Neil Young
7- Led Zeppelin
8- Black Sabbath "Tony Martin"
Neil Young over Stephen Stills was a harder choice than I thought it would be....I like Stills a lot too. Neils "ragged" guitar sound won me over.
Will Edgar get a vote ?
C'mon it's Friday...VOTE !!!
Have a Great Weekend !!!
Kenny

*1- "Widespread Panic" VS "Little Feat"
2 - "Lynyrd Skynyrd(Ronnie V. era)" VS "The Black Crowes"
3- "Rory Gallagher" VS "Roy Buchanan"
4- "Johnny Winter" VS "Edgar Winter"
5- "Emerson Lake and Palmer" VS "Yes"
6- "Stephen Stills" VS "Neil Young"
7- "Led Zeppelin VS The Who"
8- Black Sabbath "Ozzy" VS Black Sabbath "Dio" VS Black Sabbath "Tony Martin"*
1- Lowell George probably has been more creative by himself compared to Panic. Do have a feeling people will be following Panic 20 years from now similar to the Feat(if they are still around then)
2- Skynard- although it seems like The Crowes are one of the few rock&roll bands still around.
3- Rory-feel like Roy was a better player overall, but Rory seems to always give it 120% on anything he did. Plus, he crushes Roy as a songwriter. Hate to say it, but Buchanan seemed to lack the direction Rory had.
4- Hate slighting Edgar Winter here-if he kept up the White Trash concept, it would've been interesting. He's more ecclectic than Johnny, but I pick the gunslinger here.
5- This one is close-dunno. Yes has better PR though.
6-This one would've been really close in 1970. Even with Neil's strong material then, I would've given the edge to Stills. Unfortunately, Stills managed to "burn out" AND "fade away."
7- Another close one-their die hard fans would probably make a case over the other, & I doubt you can come out with a "winner."
8- Tough to replace an original that was Ozzy.

Funny stuff. I feel the same. I just never got it. I got watched the Isle of Wight festival DVD. (Which is great!) I think it was ELP's first live appearance. Emerson just jumping around making noise, Palmer drumming a million miles an hour while Lake seems to be playing a song by himself. Just don't get it. I have seen them three times and I agree that they are talented but it never seemed to flow for me. I still try and figure out how they sold out stadiums? |
