Derek, Derek, and Derek!
Oh my did he sound good tonight or what! Of course everyone else did too!!

Rockin' Horse got taken to a new level for me.
Jessica and Southbound rolled and flowed with grace and power.

The whole show was thrilling. Could have done without the noisey drunks around me but they didn't ruin for me.

Gregg and Warren were smiling a lot. The boys seemed to be digging it along with us.

A night to remember.

LS opened. ABB played a shorter-than-usual 2 hr closing set.

I'm sorry, I see absolutely no advantges to playing with Skynyrd...NONE. I will say this until I'm blue in the face. ...To play before A slightly bigger, chatty crowd?...Big Deal.
The shows with moe. will be great...more jams, lots of interplay between bands and real music will be played. Also the ABB sets will be longer...NO MORE LS, please.

My buddies that went to this show said it was pretty hot, and the highlight for them was Jessica. Apparently a beautiful evening in one of the most beautiful cities in America, or anywhere for that matter. Would have loved to have been there!

While I agree with you 100 % (As I always do ) I think you may have answered your own question. The ABB gets to play in front of a bigger audience. Means more money for them I would think...

My pleasure. And re the audience size issue, I have seen the Brothers for years here in San Diego, the most recent shows occuring at the Hospitality Point venue, and the attendance at last nights show did not seem measurably higher than at an ABB "solo" show, at least as far as my neck of the woods goes. Maybe the LS co-bill will get bigger than usual crowds in the southeast - I don't know. Not a bad marketing ploy for the ABB in any event. Nontheless, for my dough I would rather see an hour-long opening set from Karl Denson or Galactic or Stockholm Syndrome or......and then the Bros throw down with a full 2.75 hr set. The extra .75 hour over the co-bill shows allows the skull to absorb maximum drilling from Warren/Derek and pounding from the percussion section. I'm looking to get cracked in the dome with the ABB stick for as long as possible.

Anyone that thinks the ABB is doing this for the money, doesn't know what the band or it's members are about. I for one believe that they're trying to help Skynyrd get in the hall of fame. Butch has said that they never thought they'd go anywhere when they started this whole thing. They also would be playing as a big a venue as they could if they were in it for the money and would not be playing festivals like Bonnaroo or Wanee. Give the money thing a rest. Ask Derek what he thinks. I have.

Peace,
Adam

I agree.

Anyone have a setlist, or recall exactly what was played?

They are playing a pretty small venue here tommorrow night, holds like 3200 outside. The brothers could play with the Monkees and I am there. I am not a big LS fan but I hope evryone enjoys their set who are. I would preffer an evening with but I am happy to get a show tommorrow nite!

I feel Stand Back coming

I didn't say playing for more money was a bad thing. They have to eat too.

It's seems apparent that the Bros love what they are doing. Nontheless, I doubt they are playing for free

And I think they are generally playing venues that match the numbers they can draw.

Are the Wanee and Bonnaroo shows freebies? I would be surprised.

Nothing wrong with doing somehthing you love and also trying to make a buck. It's the best of both worlds. Thank goodness the Bros are indeed making some dough, because I doubt we would see them out on tour if they weren't.

Butch made a comment once that he wanted to play Bonnaroo so bad he WOULD have done it for free, but I highly doubt that happened. Considering the attendance, I'm sure the band did pretty good for themselves at Wanee this year as well.

When it comes to setting up opening acts, booking venues and the like, the ABB have trained professionals to worry about all that so they can focus on the music. This is as it should be.

Well put - I saw it at the Big House Show (I was sort of expecting it, seeing as chuck was there) - but what's it going to be like without the killer key solo of Chuck?

First let me say that I saw both the LA and SD shows. Both were great. The band was in great spirits and in San Diego really seemed to be having a great time. That said, Lynard Skynard is horrible!!! My intent is not to offend, however, these guys should never share a stage with ABB. The show is totally canned right down to the chatter from JVZ. I am sure that in 1973 LS was an incredible band but this LS is a bar band................ at best. I always look forward to seeing the artists that open or share a stage with ABB. In the past I have caught KDTU and others and have become fans of those bands as well but seriously, I am a lover of music and I would just say that LS is a good opportunity........ to hang out in the parking lot and drink more beer............you will be missing nothing.

My buddies who were at this show said Derek just blazed away on a solo in place of the piano solo. They said it worked out just fine and was the highlight of the evening.

Listening to 3.22 Jessica right now (Thx ABBSR04). Can't imagine it w/o the piano. That is the essence of the tune.

Yep. The billing with LS brings crappy fans that get obnoxiusly drunk and talk a lot during the ABB. That was a bothersome. LS is such a cliche driven"bar band" now and thier fans mirrored that. How many times did JVZ say, "God bless each and every one of ya"? Oh about 20 times. Barf. They have that psuedo macho, "let's kick some Iraqi ass", fake tough guy biker facade going on and I could barely look at them much lest be preached at and sit through thier "new" pro-war song. Don't ask me it's name cause I don't kniow or care to.

On a much happier note...YES! Jessica was amazing!! Melissa was done very nicely with only Gregg on acoustic, Warren, Butch and Oteil. Sweet.
