In about 15 minutes will be listening to the Grateful Dead hour, what a way to wake up on a Sunday morning. The rest of the day will be like the past 3 days, listening to Merlefest!!!

I've considered XM over the last few years but I'm not sure it will work for me, not in my car enough and even if I got the home receiver, there is just something about paying for radio.

I understand exactly where you're coming from & didn't mean this to be a sales pitch. I have an older Sony unit that I can play in the house or in the car. I have a docking station for both. Also, with their recent price increase, you can stream & record the signal through the internet. No $$$ interest in the company just a happy boy this morning

I felt exacty the same way. Radio in the NY Metro area is horrible and I just got sick and tired of the lousy choices, the crap that was being shoved down our throats by comm. radio and the repetitiveness of even the available classic rock stations of which there are few. I gave in about six months ago and got XM and it was one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.

My input here is simply my experience. XM is musically the best, smartest rewarding thing I've ever purchased. No question. FM radio where I live, and everywhere, in a word - SUCKS!!! You don't have to be Einstein to see that it has all turned away from what we want to listen to, and headed towards what big advertisers want us to hear - total bull.
You remember back in the day when cable TV came out? Paying for something that comes freely over the air? I've said this before - satellite radio is a must have for any music lover - period. Go to www.xmradio.com for info. You have to buy a receiver, antenna, and docking station. When I got it, it came as one package. Right now, I believe you'd have to lay out about $150. There is no 1 or 2 year agreement you have to sign up for (unlike the cell phone co.) - you own the equipment and you can cancel anytime - no penalty. Believe me, you won't even notive the $13 charged to your card every month - but you will notice a whole new world of music that you can't get anywhere else. You can also do a 3-day free trial on your computer to see if you like the music selections. Go for it!

Illness is right. XM doen't compare to Sirius IMO.
The jam station is like my iPod, with less brothers and dTb, and you get turned on to new stuff (for me) like Jason Crosby and New Monsoon.

I LOVE my Sirius...Seth on jam bands channel 17 is the best station I've ever listened to. I've gotten turned on to people like Umphrey's Mcgee, Steve Kimock, Medeski, Martin, Wood, Robert Randolf and the Family band, New Monsoon (who just were in the studio doing an acoustic gig), all kinds of stuff. If you like the Dead, Bill Walton hosts show every Saturday night featuring hidden "gems" of live Greatful Dead. Warren was a guest about a month ago, and just floored me with all of his stories, insight and knowledge. Mickey Hart and Phil Lesh were guests two weeks ago. It's very cool to hear the "insider info." Seth passes on about all kinds of bands. What's interesting is that she has never ever mentioned her connection to Warren or that she manages Gov't Mule....She's very professional. Seriously, if you're considering satelite radio, I'd strongly suggest Sirius over XM. I think XM is weak in the jam band scene. Sirius has a great deal of insider info the always pass along to their listeners.

I had both XM and Sirius at one time. Sirius blows them away(Except in the stock market)
And Stef Scamardo never mentions her connection with Warren or Mule. Shes great on Sirius.
Everyone get Sirius so my stock goes up.

I think at the end of the day.....both sat services are comparable in music. XM also has a kick-ass jam band station. Can't beat Deep Tracks. Either way, the point is, sat radio is well worth it.
