I've pretty much come to the end of the line with any more public offerings on this board, including the Captskipper stuff. Any future offerings will be done via email. If anyone is interested in getting in on these future shows you can pm me with your email addy or email me directly. I'm at claypelland@earthlink.net

This is very sad news Clay . . . you have done more than anyone I know to spread excellent music out to the masses and if this decision is because people have been ungracious then I am appalled . . . it will be their loss.

Thank you very much for all you have done, and for all you will continue to do behind the scenes . . . I am very pleased to have made your aquaintance . . . best wishes, Colin.

The Forum will certainly miss you. IMO, there hasn't been anyone more dedicated to sharing the music on this site than Brother Clay.

That said, I trust and respect your judgment, Clay. Thanks for all of your offers, comments, opinions, and knowledge.

As I became more familiar with the who's what's where's and how's of this forum, a few names always seemed to be the voices that people turned to. Yours was always at the top of the list.

He's still going to be our Clay, only now it's our job to spread the shows he graciously spreads to us, to the rest of the forum =)

Many thanks for EVERTHING you've done for the all of us ABB fans, too much to comprehend, really =)

And of course, any reason to thank Clay is a good one =D

More people need to latch onto this concept. I don't pretend to know Clay's mind in this, but I know it is extremely frustrating to watch folks take & take and never re-offer back what they get. Remember there may well be folks out there who want what you have received just as much as you did when you got your slot. It's all about sharing and spreading, especially things like Skipper work where many, many hours have gone into making something better for us.

To further hijack this thread, I was about to post something that kind of ties into this. If you sign up for a re-offer slot, then make sure you follow through on the re-offer. Say what ya mean, mean what ya say. When you take a re-offer spot and don't follow through, how are others supposed to have a chance? This is all the more important IMO with the DVD scenarios as there are not as many folks with DVD burners who can help share the music.

Like that old Traffic song..."Shouldn't have took more than you gave, and you wouldn't be in this mess today."

Thank you, Clay and Dennis, for everything you've done.

Well, I haven't visited with Clay about this yet but I have to weigh in with a little frustration of mine.

I am growing somewhat weary of the "takers." As many of you know, several years ago saw the start of The Shoebox Series, shows, mostly of very high quality, that would not otherwise be in the trading circles. Now, I don't expect to be "stroked" every time one of these shows is offered up, but it appears to me that quite a number of people "expect" these shows to continue to be offered, as theirs for the taking.

Some people are very gracious when receiving these offers and that is truly appreciated. A lot of effort goes into getting these shows out to the trading circles here. A lot of people put considerable effort into these shows, several much more than even me.

These are the folks I feel for, doing a lot of work and receiving very little, if any, credit.

The "takers" are those that do just that, always want in, but you never see a re-offer, or for that matter, any offer of any kind back to group here.

Maybe I'm just in an owly mood, but there is a point where the frustration will outweigh the satisfaction of helping people hear these shows. When that day arrives, The Shoebox Series will end.

I can't speak for the others who put a tremendous amount of personal time and effort into their sharing of great music here (and I don't want to mention names because I'll surely unintentionally miss a person or two) but all do it because we want to, not because we have to. Even if I don't partake in their offers I sincerely appreciate those folks efforts.

So, what is my point? Probably don't have one. Be gracious, be courteous and give back. How's that for a start?

For those of you who weren't around prior to Dec. 2001:

On the old site we didn't have PM's, all of our Trading/B&P's, etc. were done by email..... of course, the public offer was thrown up on the board. This concept is much easier, imo. The last couple B&P offers I've done were presented this way, it's much easier for me to do emails since I may have several offers going at once.

Trading by email has it's positives:

1. It's much easier and less costly to send text info and cover art, when applicable, via email.

2. It's difficult to sort through PM's when you have multiple offers up, however, an email offer can be sent to a group of folks. Life is busy for most folks, efficiency is important to us!

I pass along music because music is my passion and I love to share. I too, see very few re-offering shows around here. I see the same folks grab freebies time after time and rarely a re-offer of said show. The appropriate way to spread the toast is to make sure to get the butter and jam across to all 4 corners!

Another frustration in offering B&P's, I have at least 1 not follow through on every offer. Not sending out your mailer costs others a shot at an offer. If you aren't going to follow through, don't sign up.

Well hell I may as well weigh in too on this.

I use to offer on the average a show a week but in the past year I've felt some people think that it's my duty to supply them with shows. It started with one person who no longer comes here that took freebies and never reoffered. When I called them on this I was told that I" had no life and too much music".
Then it was a number of people that wouldn't send their blanks for a week or two. I'd be ready to delete something from my hard drive and a late package would come in.
But the last straw was this. About 2 months ago I hurt my back and was down for a week or so.I knew I had not done a couple of things so I PMed the people that I thought I owed stuff to (since few let me know they received their packages anymore). One responded with a nasty all caps response.
I have since only offered 1 show, a Beacon that hadn't made the rounds.

I really ENJOY sharing the music I get, but some people have made it to where it's no fun. This isn't my job, I have a full time job and a part time business that I am trying to start.

I'm not looking for a pat on the back or anything like that, just like to see a few step back and look at what you are doing. I know some don't have burners and can't share. But it gets old seeing the same people offering and the same people taking and not reoffering.

We got a good thing here, don't screw it up!

Hey Now!
I've been away for the last few weeks & missed the events leading up to this thread.
I'd like to thank Clay & all the other KIND folks that have made the music available & sounding good. Your generosity has allowed all of us to pursue our love of the music. In spite of occasional negativity, we have built a nice community here. As circulation & trading take on new forms, lets remember the good things here & keep this forum thriving.
Peace, RD
