Just curious what everyone jams to thru their headphones. Depends on the mood I'm in. Usually some ABB, Phish, Blue Floyd, Steve Kimock, Gov't Mule, DTB...mostly just live shows. I play drums btw. If this has already been done before, let the thread die.

Right now I've been jamming to a lot of ABB, DTB, some Jazz, some Taj Mahal, pretty much anything that rocks or is bluesy. Though I feel when I play with songs I dont play my best, My ear always listens to the song and listen especially to the guitar, and I have trouble concentrating on my playing because I have another guitar in my ear. Once and a while I have a nice solo, but most of the time Im just not concentrating. I def. play my best when I jam with family or friends, especially last time my Uncle came over and we did Whipping Post, My solo started after the chorus break and I just took off into space, man I was on fire! Anyway, does anyone know where I can get Jam tracks for practice and improv that just the rhythm section of a band, I've found one site on www.betterguitar.com but I'm too tired of those same 5 tracks. I play guitar if you havent noticed...Gibson SG '61 reissue

Lately I've been jamming to a lot of blues and classic r&b. I played in a jam session the other night, and we ended up jamming on Funky Nassau for twenty+ minutes. First time I had played the song in a long time.

If I could play an instrument it would be Albert King's "I Wanna Get Funky",
'Til My Back Ain't Got No Bone, just gives me the chills.

Have been putting Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" on the headphones and working on my 6/8 feel. I'm a drummer. And proud of it.

i play guitar, i've been listening to so much derek trucks the last few weeks, be it allman brothers band or derek trucks band, but one thing i've found is that he is the only guitarist i will never even attempt to play along with, it would be way too depressing for me. he is SOOOOO good as we have all known for a while now, the rest of the world just needs to see it. of course, i'll always throw on some zeppelin, neil young, hendrix, any clapton or winwood band, beatles, and then of newer stuff dave matthews band and robert randolph & the family band.

I've been playing guitar with a lot of Little Feat lately. Also, a lot of early Black Crowes.

As far as styles and individual players go, I've been trying to learn how to play like Trucks and Herring. They're just too damn good, though.

I really enjoy jamming along (guitar) to any of the songs on the Frogwings album...others I jam to would be Zappa's "Watermelon In Easter Hay" and "Variations On The Secret Carlos Santana Chord Progression", ABB "Liz Reed" & "Worried Down W/ The Blues" to name a few.
Depends upon the mood.
Most recently I've been spending time w/ Neil Young (love jamming to Cowgirl In The Sand) and New Earth Mud's "Girl On The Mountain", "Train Robbers" & "Hi Speed Transportation LA City Limit Blues".

Sometimes I tune my cable TV to the piped-in Blues Music channel and try to keep up on my acoustic. If I can't play, I just try to give my best gospel wail to accompany the tune. This usually causes my wife to come in to see if I'm alright. The neighbors' dog howls at this point also.

Hey Droog, -you ever heard either of the Mermaid Avenue albums by Wilco and Billy Bragg? These are the uncovered Woody Guthrie lyrics (referred to by Bob Dylan in "Chronicles"). Pretty good stuff.

It's really nice to see so many drummers on this board. I have to say, that I'm a former drummer myself. I would like to say, that I'm a current drummer, but I sold my drum set many years ago. I just found myself never finding the time to play anymore as I am so busy as I've gotten older. I mentioned before that I played in a band called Grey Ghost in the late 70's to early 80's. We covered a few of the ABB tunes, Sweet Melissa, Blue Sky and One Way Out.

I've thought about buying a new drum set, but at my age I felt like it might just be a waste of time as I never play anymore. I did go out and purchase an Ovation 1771LX guitar as I felt, that would be a better instrument at my age to tool around with. I'm actually just learning how to play it as I always stuck to the drums and never messed with a guitar except to play around.

Music that's in my 6 disc player in my SUV right now, that I listen to would be Wet Willie, Little Feat, Los Lonely Boys, Montgomery Gentry, Steve Miller Band (Fly Like an Eagle) and Traffic (The Low Spark CD). Friends normally freak out when they see my CD collection at home. I would say I have in the neighborhood of around 5,000 CD's if I had to guess, that I've collected over the years and I have them categorized in the type of music. Actually I have to give my wife credit for that as she's good at organizing things and she's got our CD's and DVD's all categorized in the type of music or movies they are.

My wife is strictly a Country fan, but people always freak out at my wide variety. I always just say, that music is in me and I just Love all types. I have a huge collection of classic rock of course, but I also have a huge collection of blues, country, jazz, classical, etc.

BTW, speaking of drummers? I'm quite sure this was covered on this board extensively, so I apologize for bringing up an old subject, but I wasn't around here this past January, but I have to say RIP, Jim Capaldi one of my all time favorite drummers. He was the founding member of Traffic of course with Stevie Winwood.
