Warren is tearing Egypt a new E-hole - I'm definitely hearing some of his Phil/Dead work coming through here.

Is that like when he tore Les Brers a new A-Minor?

He's pretty good at that...heh

Yep, just like that.

And twenty minutes or so later - One Deacon jumped up, said Sister! Why don't you hush!

It would in fact be "lay brear" if the Les Brers were by itself. However if it is followed by a word that begins with a vowel, which it is, then it's "lay brears in A minor." I suppose since it's a combination of French and English, normal rules don't apply.

You know what? Forget everything I just said. I don't know what I'm talking about, I'm just trying so sound like I do.

Not so sure about that Lefty, I can't find any evidence that brers is even French at all. I was confusing it with the pere, frere thing, apparently.

So, I was apparently completely off. Maybe one of the European brothers will chime in and educate us.

I always thought it was pronounced like it's spelled. I guess something like les broors. I realize it might be different in French, et moi je parle francais un petit peu. However, the Allman Brothers are many things, French they are not.

Butch once posted that les meant "less", because the song was titled about losing Duane, meaning that it was Less Brothers in A Minor... That's not saying much about how it's pronounced though...

I was always under the impression that Les Brers was "cajun-french" meaning, the brothers.

Or, am I totally off-base?

Thanks for the info Pauli. Anyway, the french would say it "Lay Brare" so when its in the whole title, it would be "Lay Brares in A Minor." so Droogie, you were right.

Les does not mean less in French. Moins means less. If it were less brothers, first of all, why would it be in A Minor, and second of all it would be Moins Freres en A Minor. I'm sure there are people on this site who are from France who will back me up. I looked up Brers in a French-English dictionary and it isn't listed, leading me to believe either it's slang or it's made up. It is also not in any English dictionary. I would tend to believe Butch on this one, except for the French part. Les(s) Br(oth)ers. See the similarity?
