Just back from Florida and thanks to some help from my friends in this forum I did track down the gentleman that made Duanes famous strap.

His name is Zebo and he has a shop in Port Charlotte Florida, I called him and he told me to come visit and he would make the strap right in front of me, even custom fit if I needed.

What a great experience, Zebo is terrific and full of great stories about Berry, Duane, Dickey, Greg and etc. He made the strap right in front of me using only hand tools and it turned out fantastic (just like Duanes that just auctioned for $15,000). I gladly paid $300 for the strap, Zebo records all the info and gives you documentation. I would have gladly paid more $$ as I cannot afford the $12,000 Duane re-issue Les Paul that Gisbson is selling. This strap is a direct link to Duane and I cannot believe I was fortunate enough to get one.

Zebo also made me a braclet and he does all kinds of leather work, you can get a guitar strap custom made to your liking just send him a picture (I recommend going to see him).

The Duane strap deserves to be at $300+ but Zebos other goods are all reasonably priced, a guy came in and snapped up a biker jacket when I was there and told me that Zebos $200 jacket beat Harley Davidsons $350 jacket hand down.

Zebo does not have email or a website but is being pressured to change all of that so if you want something call him now before he gets on the information super highway and things get crazy. Zebo was already told by several folks to up the price of his Duane strap to $500-1,000. He is going to be featured in Vintage Guitar magazine soon, once the collectors get to him you know what will happen to prices.

He is a great guy, super artist and well kept secret but could use the business, I am ordering a pair of sandals for my Sons Birthday and everyone wants a braclet like mine!

He is going to do a Berry Oakley bass strap soon.

Call him 941-255-9320 tell him you saw info on the ABB website it will make him feel good.

Try and get down to Port Charlotte Florida to Zebos shop.

I got there around noon and ordered a pizza pie to eat in and share with Zebo and his friend Lefty.

Zebos started on the strap then we walked his dogs while the leather dye set.

We then had some coffee after the strap was done, Zebos packs the strap in a coffee can just like Duanes was for over thirty years.

Zebo is one of the sweetest guys you would ever want to meet and the experience adds big time to the mystique of the strap. We are lucky he is still around as even he admits he lost a lot of friends to drugs.

Call the guy it will make his day, believe me you will not be sorry even if you just buy a simple leather item from him.

He is definetely the real deal, when he sized me up for the strap and told me that Duanes strap size would work for me I was in heaven. He told me that Duane was rail thin and then added that he was one of the nicest folks you would ever want to meet!

Bill

PS Now I have to go out and find the right Les Paul to go with this magnificant strap.

Several years ago there was an original Duane strap that sold for somewhere around 30k I think on ebay. It was sold by Larry Brantley, who was a roadie for a short while during the early to mid 70's. My understanding is that he took it off Berry's casket during the wake and remembered some thirty years later that he had it. I'm almost poitive that Zebo was the one who authinicated it for Larry.

we had a guy come in and do some contract labor for us. When he found out I was an Allmans fan he told me he was friends with Zebo. He said he'd fix me up.

Today in the mail I received a strap #43. What a coincidence on the number

Sweet!! I have some photos of Devon Allman that I took in Denver. He, of course, was using his Zebo strap. I would like to send the photos to Zebo.

I heard that story too and the one about Buffalo Evans giving away Berry's stuff.....like Berry didn't have legal heirs it should have gone to? Sorry....I can't help but hope he's not enjoying his ill gotten gains.
