Hey,now!
Does anyone else watch the show "Deadwood" on HBO??
I don't watch much television....but this show is DEFINITELY worth watching!!
I didn't get a chance to catch it on TV last season....but a couple of weeks ago,I rented the entire season 1 on DVD from the video store....well,I started w/ the first 2 episodes and by the end of the week,I watched ALL of the first season!
It just started the 2nd Season on 3/06...and it's on at 9:00 on Sunday nights...so,check it out if you like a harsh realism view of what the REAL wild, wild west was like!
I am addicted to this show,y'all!
What do you think??

Damn! I missed the debut.

Anyway, yes, I like it a lot. You really have to pay attention to what is going on. Very good acting and writing. The characters are all larger than life- especially Swerigen or whatever his name is.

I love Deadwood. I started watching it last year after The Sopranos and by the middle of the year I was more interested in Deadwood than The Sopranos. Deadwood was created by David Milch who did Hill Street Blues for a number of years and then went on to do NYPD Blue. What I like about Deadwood is that the quality of the acting is second to none. Same goes for another HBO series, The Wire, which is even better. I believe repeats of last nights first episode start Tuesday night.

Great!
I'm so glad that some of the cool people here on the site can appreciate great writing and dialogue....and what about those characters!!?
I think that Swearingen is one of the most original & craziest characters EVER on a western!!(IMHO)
You gotta love this guy...even if he drives you crazy....he is one character that will be remembered for a LONG time to come!!

I think that Al Sweringen may be the best "bad" guy in the history of the cinema. Love the show.

Really hooked on the Shield too though. Too close to call on that one.

Been watching the show since the beginning....and love it. I will be glad to see Jane back. Her character get's me rolling.
Went to Deadwood S.D. last year. Nice place, much of the town is still original buildings (that have been rehabbed some, modern plumbing). The town also has characters that dress up and walk the streets. Low stakes gambling.I won 500.00 on a slot machine while I was there. Great place to visit, just not during Sturgis week....rates are jacked up then.
But yes the show is Great !
Also hooked on Carnival....show's before Deadwood.

Got the dvds a few weeks ago-really missed out on some details while it aired. The fight scene between Swearengen & Bullock was hilarious on Sunday night.

"Welcome to Deadwood." lol

Yeah, sure Al.

As much of a nut Al Swearengen is on the show(never seen c-sucker dropped so many times), I don't think he is quite as sinister as Cy Tolliver. If you remember, he volunteered to keep the priest at his place, & even killed him off-which visibly shook him. Also, the scenes between him & Trixie shows that he isn't the complete hard arse he wants to portray.

Al Sweringen makes Joe Pesci look like a boy scout. Lol

You got that right!!
I think Cy Tolliver is brilliantly played by Powers Boothe, though!
He definitely seems to be MORE of a devil than even AL....a devil in disguise,perhaps...with his fancy clothes and bar!!
Check out how scorned he seems to be at Joanie....the whole trying to get rid of Chinatown thing....and lets not forget the two con artist teenagers that came to town and what happened to them!!(Being fed to the chinaman's pigs would be a HORRIBLE way for anyone!)
Thanks for sharing the vibe,everybody!!

I was excited just watching the previews last year, and when the the show debuted, I was hooked. We always tivo them and watch each episode over and over, slow motion closed caption, intense study of each episode. Best show I have ever seen on tv. Now, I am also completely hooked on Carnivale, and last week with the season premier of Deadwood, and then Carnivale...I was reeling from Deadwood when I had to tune in to Carnivale...then reeling from Carnivale after it was over...an incredible 1-2 punch. As always, I have re-watched each of those episodes every day this last week....and it is Sunday again!!!! WooHoo!!!

I could just about give you a script for each show of Deadwood from memory...

I watched Deadwood until they killed off Wil Bill,Keith Carradines character.I thought he was a great character,a perfect potential nemesis for Sweringer(if Sweringer did something to piss him off ).Then they up and killed the guy,oh well I need to get back into it this season.

I saw part of Carnival for the 1st time last night-that show's a trip!I was buggin out when they tarred & feathered that guy, that was intense

Been hooked since the trailers for season one came out ---- definitely HBO has got some of the best programming around. Got into the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arliss & all others except Carnivale UNTIL I caught last Sunday's episode & I'm kicking myself in the ass for not getting HBO back after Comcast dropped it from analog cable last September.
Can't wait until tonight.

I love Deadwood. Been hooked since the first episode. I was sorry to see Wild Bill go, but that's what happened in real life, so I guess they figured it had to happen sooner or later. (Since when does TV and reality come together?).

*Did anyone else catch this week's episode, besides me??
What did you think?*

I thought the whole Sol/Bullock moment was interesting. Sol even managed to call him a c-sucker. Having the wife & child there makes it uncomfortable, even for the viewer.

I honestly thought Trixie was going to shoot Bullock. She fears Swearengen....but it looks like Bullock can handle him if push comes to shove. Nice to see Calamity Jane back, but I have a feeling she will be killed off this season, with the producers putting in a historical twist(like the priest).

Charlie Utter is a GOOD man in this show-he really is looking out for the well being of others, & this was noticeable during his scenes w/ Wild Bill, before his untimely demise. He also was willing to listen to Joanie in the first season. Looks like his "dizzy spells" were an acting job to keep Bullock out of the Gem. Utter & Jane have a great chemistry together on the show.

Dority pouting like a little kid was funny-he really needs Al's attention, or he loses it. Tension filled scene when he is beating down on the guy at the Gem. Then, Silas kills the first guy to open his mouth.... isn't it funny that murdering somebody isn't as big as an issue.... as taking them to Wu & the pigs? Five bucks....

And of course, THE scene of the episode was when Al had the thumb stuck up his bung hole. He really does have the BEST lines in the entire series.

Calamity Jane - what a gal. How about when they were all outside the Gem and Bullock's partner shows up with his arm in a sling and Jane refers to him as ''the hardware Jew at half strength'' or words to that effect - she's got a bad word for everybody but a heart of gold.

Definitely feeling your view,finsky!!
You summed up the entire episode!
Al's demise with a thumb in his *ss....priceless!!
And what about Jane's story about the Finish fellow who had a liking for her!!?
The writing on this show is incredible!!
