Yup - played it for many years. I learned Dickey's entire Fillmore solo ages ago (wore out two vinyl copies of FE working on those tunes). It might be time to brush up on it.

Well I've tried to a few times, but the chord progressions are too quick for my fret hand. I've only been playing for a year or so.

I'm not in a band, but unless you want two seperate solos in between the verses, than yeah you may need two guitars.

Or unless you're feeling creative, you could throw in something like a saxophone to give the song sort of a different vibe. The ABB did it with Branford Marsailis once, and from what I keep hearing it was, hands-down, a sizzlin' Whippin' Post.

Sort of. I think it really depends on who plays saxophone on the song (like Karl Denson.) Whoever is playing on the song would give it a different feel.

I always thought that WP would intimidate Guitarists in local bands!

When I first heard the Allman Brothers, I think it was the greatest hits cd.. this would be the only song at first, that would stick out. The bass intro would just blow me away. We've still yet to cover it. Any one know where to get bass tabs? or sheet music for bass on wp?

If you go to the Shop Talk forum and check out the big tabs thread, you can find a link to a great site that has guitar and bass tabs for Whipping Post.

We play it all the time, one of our hottest and tightest tunes. Folks love it, eeven younger folks not really familiar with it. Nice to direct them to the origional version by the true masters.
