Sweep that Dead Debris up. There is some acid fryed burnt crispy crittered Grateful Dead Debris of human life that is stumbling incoherent and babbling around the forum that needs it's pachouli potty mouth plastered shut. You know the type, twigs and sh*t in their hair, clothes look like wooven from yak wool, reek of patchoili, trail of drool out the corner of their mouth, bare dirt encrusted feet, square hunk of unidentifieable grain based food sticking out of their pocket, a member of some tribe without a leader, aimlessly STAGGERING and mumbling psychedelic stumblebum talk.... and the hair, where does one get hair like that? Is it a product that holds the clumps of hair togethor? Or time? I really like the ones with dogs..... it's always clear who the one with the brains is............

Good thing I finished my coffee before I read this or it would've been all over the screen. Absolutely hilarious Tony.

I do admire the type that can travel coast to coast without any money in their pockets!

I can't stand the tour rats. the new breed has infused some sort of skater/punk/hip hop vibe into their thing, whatever it is. I remember seeing Phil and Friends at the beacon one year and a girl begging for change outside with her dog. If you can't afford it.........stay off tour. These people are constantly looking for hand outs and God forbid you want face value for your extra ticket. The worst is seeing an infant in the arms of one of these space cadets.

I never quite understood them and never will. Most don't really even know the music that well. It's ironic to me that the Dead attracted these types and some might not agree with me but when you take away the tye dye , the Grateful Dead organization was an example of capitalism at it's finest. Not sure how that appealed to someone trying to make it from Wisconsin to NJ with 2 bucks in their pocket.

I've always loved both bands and I consider myself a dead head but I was under no illusion that I could trust those " kind " folks prowling the parking lot, farther than I could throw them.

Most are used to it now but I would get a kick out of the influx of dread locked kids spinning in the isles at the beacon circa 1996. There would always be some puzzled looking people who were not familiar with these types wondering what the hell was going on ! .

My rant aside, I have met several fun/cool people who looked like they crawled out of a dumpster yet weren't looking for a hand out.

At the Atlanta Mid-Town fest' a couple of years ago, I was standing in line for one of the Porta-Potties while Rat Dog was playing on the adjacent stage. I heard noises coming from inside the dumpster next to the porta-potties. I looked inside, and these girls had climbed inside and were using it for a bathroom. What a long, strange trip that must've been.

I agree with Tommars: It's unwise to judge a book by its cover. I've known plenty of good, genuine, extra crispy heads. I've also known plenty of shady ones. Unfortunately, just about all the shady ones I've known or met have been at show environment. Those are the people that would just assume to look like a well groomed businessman if they thought it would serve them to do so...

Rusty, OMG!

You know I used to do the whole GD tour thing too, but my friends and I always had our tickets and hotels booked before we left. We saved our money to be able to take off every year...

i really dont get these kind of heads. Every one that knows me considers me to be a deadhead, but i do keep myself clean and smelling pretty nice. I brush my hair too. It seems like nowadays these kids consider how cool you are by the number of shows you have been to and they cannot comprehend that I have a family and a (God forbid) job.
If I do go to an occasion show alot of planning goes into gas, food, drink, tickets, a place to stay, etc. I would never think of going without the moneyfor these things. Much less drag my kids along with me.

Finally!! A thread that adresses the Great Unwashed! I like to think that going to shows or even going on "tour" does NOT mean neglecting the most basic of hygiene. I'll bet half these kids w/ the hippie-dippie-dos are trust fund brats purposely pissing their parents off.

I've been to a couple of hundred Dead shows all over the country over too many years but I never got the appeal of that lifestyle! Last summer I took my 13 year old son to his first Dead show at the PNC in NJ and he was more amazed by the crowd than the band. I tried to explain the concept of what we like to call "the Dead hags" but he couldn't get it either. He actually asked me if all those girls walking around the parking lot with one finger in the air were looking for a free/cheap ticket or just airing out their armpit hair!!! lol

Well, I've never been a part of that scene, nor ever even came across it, really. So forgive my ignorance.

What makes a grilled cheese sandwich "heady?"
