I saw this on the Philzone and thought people would be interested. Apparently at last nights RatDog show, Bob Weir was in bad shape and could not come out for the second set. What makes this somewhat troubling is the fact he canceleed the fall tour do to exhaustion and they are only a few dates in this tour. Hope he is ok. Here are some posts from RatDog.org:

"Came out with his eyes barely open, just small slits. Didn't know the words to Shakedown Street, or Ramblin Rose or Lucky Enough. Very short first set that was the worst I've seen in 30 years. He couldn't come out after a very long intermission. The rest of the band is playing right now without him. The MC said he was ''sick'' or something. Having lived in Mill Valley myself, I think it's that old ''exhaustion'' thing. I left at the start of the 2nd set which is still going on. "

From Ratdog.org:

It's all true. I was on the rail, and Bobby was barely there. He did not even play the guitar, just simulated chords. I wanted to cry. We knew from the minute he hit the stage something was wrong. He almost breathed the words to the songs.I am praying for you brother...GET WELL!

From Ratdog.org: (same guy)

When the MC said '' I have some bad news'' he pointed to his stomach as if to say Bob was sick to his stomach, and he also said he was sick when he started tonight and got sicker during the break and could not come out. I am hoping it's just some kind of stomach thing. A number of people in the audience were speculating that he was really wasted though. None of us really no for sure just yet. To be honest, I have never seen Weir look like he did tonight though. He messed up so many lyrics it was weird.

Get well brother Bobbie!!!

without knowing - I'm hoping its just the stomach flu that's been around. Whatever the cause: Get well soon Bob!

I really really hope Bobby is okay and it was simply nothing more than the flu or a virus.. Bob has always kept himself in pretty good shape by running, mountain biking etc. and has always been pretty energetic. I saw many Dead shows over the years and I never once saw Bob look too wasted where he wasn't able to perform. Many shows he actually carried the band practically on his own when Jerry was looking tired in his later years. I don't want to believe its anything more than a temporary illness until we know for sure whats going on...I just hope he is at peace with himself...Hang in there Bob!

I hope he's OK. Bobby's a little out there but he's the ace. When Rat Dog is cooking on all cylinders they're a ton of fun.

I'm really looking forward to RatDog/Little Feat at the Beacon in April. I hope he recovers fully. I'm wondering if he took a pull on something at got more than he bargained for. I saw one post that claimed his "eyes were slits"

Hope all is well with him. I have had my share of health problems this year so I sympathize completely if that is the case. Pneumonia being just one of my problems but it sure has sucked my energy away. Somedays I feel like my old self energy wise and ten minutes later I'm out cold.

I'm just hoping it isn't some sort of major illness that keeps causing him problems. As far as dosing is concerned, do people still do that? Always a rather crazy thing to me. I had a friend who got dosed and thought he was losing his mind. Called 911 himself and spent a couple days in the Psyc Ward under observation. blood tests showed that it was the drugs but doctors were concerned that he wouldn't admit taking them. He later found out what had happened and let's just say he wasn't pleased.

I had always believed that Bob was one of the straighter guys in the Dead so I hope it isn't drug related in anyway. Slit eyes is more a sign of smoking which wouldn't likely cause such major problems.

I hope he is well, I love the Ace. Although Bob has kept in good shape, he has years of abuse under his belt, not all voluntarily inflicted, if you read some of the books that have been written you know what I mean. I just hope all of it isn't taking its toll.

C'mon Bobby, you can do it. We love ya, man.

Makes one wonder about the "exhaustion" thing from last year. Hope it's not another "snow" job.

From jambands.com

RatDog Featuring Mark Karan on Vocals

Last night at the 4th and B in San Diego, Bob Weir initially opted to perform his scheduled RatDog gig despite the fact that he was reportedly suffering from the flu. While Weir was able to appear during the first set, he was forced to sit out the second. The rest of the band was in fine fettle however, with Mark Karan stepping into his stead on vocals on such tunes as “Sugaree,” “Not Fade Away” and “Deal.”

I was hoping for a "Core 4" set during Phil Lesh's Mardi Gras concert on Saturday in San Francisco. I guess that won't happen. No worries, the show should still be incredible and Bobby will get some R&R.

I was going to post something similar. He's never been the one to over-indulge. I know some people don't like Bobby or don't get him, or are at least bothered by him. But I really like him a lot. He's what drew me into the Dead. He's very unique & under-rated. I wish him the best.
