Who's your favorite power trio? I suppose Mule is going to get a lot of votes, but there's Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Cream, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble...

My vote goes to Johnny Winter with Tommy Shannon and Uncle John Turner.

Does drums, bass, guitar, vocalist qualify as a power trio?
If yes my vote goes to FREE (Paul Rodgers, Paul Kossof, Andy Fraser & Simon Kirke).

That adds up to four, so it probably wouldn't.

I think Mountain will get some support too.

I always dug Grand Funk Railroad as a trio, before they aquired Craig Frost on keys in 1972. I liked them as a quad, for sure! The opening riffs to Are You Ready? on Live Album still gives me goosebumps.

ya know I never thought of Rush as a power trio but they are! Grand Funk rocks too! Right now that early Mule gets me every time.

I don't know if they qualify as a power trio, but Eric Johnson's band was (is?) a powerful trio!

I gotta go Mule. I respect Cream but am I the only one who gets bored with them? I always thought the Carpenters would be formidable with a guitar player.
