When I was hanging out at the Old Town School of Folk Music, there was a little person that played guitar and performed her own songs. She had a voice like crystal bells.

And, from the contemporary gospel world: Yolanda Adams

Lots of good one here, but wonder why no has listed the best, RAY CHARLES. The man can sing anything, and make you believe it. He invented soul. Truth be told, more than a few of the singers listed (Gregg Allman, Van Morrison, Otis Redding, Chris Robinson, Al Green, Jimmy Hall, Doug Gray, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder,Warren Haynes, Willie Nelson, and the list goes on and on and on) would have never learn how to sing without the inspiration that Brother Ray provided. Very few people in American music can be considered a genius but Ray Charles sure was.
