Again I'm at the mercy of the M***********s that run my life. More than likely I won't be able to get my Mule this Friday, because of GD work !!!! Maybe I'll cop a break, but I doubt it.
I missed hooking up w/ a lot of you fellow GB'ers at the Brothers at the Rosemont. So .......at least let me know who is going and any plans in advance if I can pull a miracle out of my ass and possibly meet some of my brothers & sisters.

See ya'll at the Riv-I'll be making the trip down from Milwaukee with lrkrdg (Doug L.) and his wife, Patti-Charlie, are you coming?-so I doubt we will make the pre-show, but you never know the way I drive....

As Kirk used to introduce them (thanks to Dino and PhotoRon for the AWESOME early Mule I got this week), "Gov't Mule, Music For Ya Ass"...

Sang, behave yourself...and Susie, can't wait to meet ya!

Hey guys, I'll be there. Has anyone picked out a meeting place? I haven't been to the Riv for 15 years, but unless something in the neigborhood has changed, there aren't a ton of options, are there?

Did you choose the Musical Box over Mule?

Well, no. The problem with the Lamb shows were that they were only Lamb shows. I'd much prefer a show heavy on the Lamb along with the concert staples from the previous albums (Supper's Ready, Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, Cinema Show, and Musical Box, for instance).

But no, it's basically an issue of too much crap to do and too little time to do it.

Not too many watering holes by the Riv that I would venture into. There is the Green Mill which is great for Jazz but may be very crowded before the show. Some nice bars up on Clark Street in Andersonville by Clark and Foster. Hopleaf comes to mind. Good selection of beer and not too far from the Riv, about a mile or so. I'd be happy to host you all at my restuarant up north. You could bring our own drinks and check out some great peruvian food. We'd have to head out by 7 as that's when my peruvian customers come in as we have a peruvian band at about 7:30. Before that we should be able to accomodate.

Another decent place used to be the Hamilton up on Broadway, just south of Devon on the east side of the street. Used to be a Loyola hangout-not sure if it's still there or not but it always seemed like a fun place.

The Riviera will be my wife's first Mule show. I cannot wait to see her reaction as we walk out after the show. I went to the Roseland Ballroom show and really enjoyed the new material. It will be great to hear the new stuff again mixed with the good 'ole Mule classics.

This is the first of a four show run for me; Chicago, Indianapolis (home show), and both Fillmore shows!!!! Got Mule?

Peace to all,

Lee

Peace....

I found this entry in Metromix:

The Uptown Lounge
1136 W. Lawrence Ave.
773-878-1136

"If you were ever at a loss for where to hang out in the seedy area of Uptown before catching a concert at nearby Riviera or Aragon, you've finally got a place. First-time bar owners have completely renovated the Saxony, which took the term "dive bar" to new lows. In its place is a loungy room that's framed with tall-backed couches and a long wooden bar. But the best parts of the Saxony remain: cheap drinks and a 4 a.m. license."

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can pull this off as the last time I caught the Mule here was in '02 at Park West (at least I think it was in Oct. '02). Last year I missed the 2 shows at the Vic because of Scouts, not work.
Maybe I'll meet some of you fine folks for the 1st time. A little background on me ---- I got into the Brothers after Duane died & before Berry passed. 1st ABB Show: November 1, 1973 at the Chicago Stadium w/ John Hammond opening. Been hooked for 32 years and going strong !!!!!

Hey Highfalls, the November 1, 1973 show was also my first. I was 14 and still remeber it well. Can't count how many since then.

Re: 11-1-73, I had to choose between the ABB and the Dead, who were playing at Northwestern U. that night-NU was about 10 minutes from where I grew up on the North Shore, so I chose the Dead. Don't regret making that decision (except that I let a buddy drive who had the attention span of a gnat and wanted to leave BEFORE THE END OF THE FIRST SET because there "aren't any chicks here")...never really thought of Dead shows as being prime places to troll for chicks-and after all, we were 16 so what the hell did he know about picking up chicks anyway? (not much)

So we left about the middle of the 2nd set and missed, oh, Truckin', Morning Dew, Uncle John's Band....you get the idea.

I have never again let someone else drive me to a show who might even THINK about leaving early-and since I quit boozing 19 years ago (last month!) I usually have a pretty good case for being the driver.

The only thng I do regret is never seeing Chuck with the ABB-but I made up for that by getting to meet him after the Mule's '01 September show at the Vic-a classier gentleman you will never meet. And he REALLY lit up when I congratulated him for winning the Forester of the Year award.

Okay Chicago, let's get this party started. The place with the comfy couches and cheap drinks sounds good. It's right by the Riv and the weather is predicted to be rainy.

Getting ready to leave work and hit Greektown this afternoon. May try and hit the Uptown lounge, depending on timing. See everybody there!
