Just in your opinion - do you think we'll see a record of all new ABB tunes in the next, say, two years?

Nope.

But we will see about 20 Instant Lives this fall...

Possibly more Archive Releases, too....

It will depend on the veterans in the band. I hope so because "Hittin' the Note" was so strong. We all know that Warren can write the songs. I had hoped for a couple of new tunes to appear this summer.

Don't think so. I think after the ABB tour, that Warren going to be devoting a lot of time to Government Mule, and I don't think the veterans really feel the need for a new CD right now. Personally, I would rather wait 4 or 5 years between releases and get a strong CD like "Hittin' the Note", than get a so-so CD every 2 or 3 years.

This band is hot right now.

Strike while the iron is hot, is what the blacksmiths say.

They have plenty of new covers to record, but the question of new materail
is more about the Writers having the time to write, either together
or separately.

I hope Gregg and Warren can get together and have the kind of productive
writing sessions they did for Hittin the Note.

but I would think that as hot as this band is, that the creative juices are flowing.

Peace
John

I'd like it if they wrote some new stuff, too. Doesn't really matter if a studio record comes of it or not.

How about Derek writes a few songs. He's capable of it. I'd like to see that, and or how about other members of ABB writing tunes? Oteil maybe too

Derek says he and Oteil have tried to work out some stuff for the ABB and their own bands, but I don't know if anything has come of that.

Yes, but only if they let Oteil and Derek contribute at least 3-4 songs between each other to the collective whole. I don't think Gregg and Warren have enough new stuff in them to make a whole record within two years.

Let Oteil and Derek help make a great jazz / world / funk / blues / gospel / soul allbum once and for all!!!!!!

Wait a minute.... maybe I'll just go see DTB in Chicago on 9/17 and get my fix there....

Well Hittin the note wasn't all new material. There was a cover and some
of the songs were from the archives. I think even a new record may have
some covers based on the stuff they have been doing. Would love to see
Warren do some Otis on a new studio recording.

Peace
John

That's why they keep adding new covers. They started playing Come On In My Kitchen just last week. I don't know the last time they added a new song in the summer.

It's funny you mention them doing more covers. I just listened to a live allman joys show from '66 and everything played was covers. Like Hey Sloopie and a bunch of others.

Yeah, that's an interesting CD. That was before Gregg was really writing, so it's not for the same reason...

They should bring back Oteil's "Walk Like a Man" in the arrangement they did it in 2000. i thought that made an excellent ABB tune. Plus, although he's technically not in the band anymore I'd like to hear them do Jack Pearson's "I'm Not Crying". - I bring these two up all the time, because I think they're both great songs and that they'd go over well.

I am predicting March of 2006 three years after Hittin the Note, and this will tie in with the Beacon run of that year. I believe 2009 will be the last ABB tour and that Mule will pick up a lot of steam by then and that will be our new gig to go to.

I think Oteil has said he thought the lyrics needed more work and somebody else would have to sing it...
