what voice do you folk think is the best i abb?today and in the past..

overall i think Gregg is the best singer..One of the best white blues and rock singers..but close second comes Warren..This man sings his heart out everytime.I mean everytime..I wonder how many times he have sung Soulshine..But he always gives 100 %..
Dickey has a sweet country voice..I also notice through to allman that dickey is very good at harmonize, aslo warren. anyone who heard derek trucks sing? i havent, neither oteil..
Barry okaley sang very cool too..

todays its 26 days until i leave sweden for the united states for the first time..I think its adream.i cant belive im gonna se ABB in memphis in oct and dickey betts in new orleans..

cheers

I hope you have an excellent visit.

Re your question, gotta go with Gregg hands down. Dickey's voice is best for the tunes he wrote for himself to sing, but overall . . . I pick Gregg.

And Derek sings every time he picks up his instrument.

Allmanfan.... have a safe and wonderful trip, sounds like you'll enjoy some fine music while here.

My pick, Mike Lawler.

Wait, he didn't sing. Nevermind.

Hi allmanfan,
Gregg is the best singer without a doubt. As for Oteil, he sang Franklin's Tower by the Grateful Dead last night at the Rosemont Theatre, just outside of Chicago. Oteil did a fantastic job on the vocals and the show was mind-blowing, though the encore seemed to go off the tracks. Five minutes of Mountain Jam and that's it?

I think the house lights came on at 10:59, which implies a village ordinance of some sort.

I think ending with the close of Mt. Jam was completely appropriate.

I heard the curfew was 11 also. Glad they went right up to it!
It was the last half of Mountain Jam, and I think it was about 10 minutes. I thought it made for a good closer as well.

I'd say Gregg is the best singer also. Just listen to any version of Stormy Monday. Warren is also a very good singer on leads or harmonies.

Thats a tough one..... I tend to seperate which vocalist I like better by which song they're playing.

Most originals just sound right with greg.....

I much prefer warren on soulshine and certain others....

Not keeping it to ABB material, I would go with Warren. Just got the grit I love so much. But it's like comparing Warren and Derek To me - they both have their strengths.

just for a straight answer - I'll go with Warren.
(whats that, like 7 to 1 so far)

Gregg's voice, I dig duanes too.

I've never heard derek say one word or sing except at a dtb show where he was yelling to yonrico to sing during his drum solo.

The vocal performance by Gregg on "Melissa" from "eat a peach" is
one of my favorites. 'Stormy Monday" from Filmore east blows my mind also.

Gregg is the best white blues singer IMHO. They way he slides the pitch
to convey emotion is a remarkable talent. Few can do that effectively

Love to hear Warren sing Otis Redding songs with the ABB. He has a great voice.
you must have a great voice to cover Otis. And the confidence to even try it.
Rockin Horse is wonderful for many reasons including Warren's vocal.

Love to hear Oteil do "Franklin's Tower" and those bass/scat vocals
are the bomb.

Marc does a great job singing harmony. Loved him on "The Night They Drove Ole Dixie down'
from the Beacon back in March. He nailed the Rick Danko harmony lines.

No one sings "Blue Sky" like Dickey. Another favorite vocal performance for me.
I love his voice too, But he is not "singer in ABB" But a great singer also.

Peace
John

Gregg is the voice of the band....period.

BUT, I sure did dig Berry Oakley's rendition of Hoochie Coochie Man. His voice was under utilized IMO.

Yeah, the scat vocal stuff is pretty cool when he's soloing. You hear a lot of that from kofi in DTB and in ARU.

Warren is more convincing vocally. IMHO Much stronger.

But I have tapes of Duane introducing Berry as the sex symbol in the band before his sings it. So I
guess it works on that level? Did it Ladies?

Peace
John

Derek freaked people out when he started the intro's, LMAO! He only does it occasionally though, I guess when he is in the mood.

As for my favorite singer in the ABB Gregg takes that one hands down.

It sure freaked me out... first time I heard it was on the disc of 11/16/02. It was like hearing a speech by Harpo Marx.
