The first mule show i saw was at the tabernacle last year, when gregg sat in...man that was definitely one of the best shows ive ever seen. this should be a blast..plus im anxious to see what the new stuff is like.

Should be a great show! This is the first time that GM has played the Masquerade, if I'm not mistaken. The are some disadvantages to this venue. There is a flat floor, so if you're under 6'3 you may have a bit of difficulty getting a clear view unless you're right up front. #2 is that it is a relatively small venue. The Tabernacle is, by far, a larger venue. I can't stress enough how great the outdoor "Music Park" of the Masquerade is, though. GM isn't playing there though. Some of my most memorable concerts have been performed there. Great stage. Despite the disadvantages, I'll be there in support of one of the greatest bands ever!

I can't wait to get blasted by the Mule. Let's all hope this new material will knock our socks off. Since Woody's death, I have been waiting for a real blasting. I have heard the samples, and some of it sounds pretty good. Last years Rebirth of the Mule tour silenced my "Where's my Mule." I hope this years tour will shed some light on Mule's future sound. Does anyone have any pre-show plans?

9 Days and counting and I've counting for awhile. The venue is small. A great arena to get your Ass kicked.

Clearly there is some confusion about where the show is taking place. This is taken straight from the Ticketmaster site and is also printed on the tickets:

WINDSTORM PRESENTS
GOV'T MULE
(RAIN OR SHINE)
MASQUERADE MUSIC PARK
WWW.MULE.NET
SAT SEP 11 2004 7:30PM

If you go to the Masquerade site it says that the Mule is playing at 6 PM in "heaven." Then it goes on to say that there is a band playing after them in "heaven" at 8 PM. I don't think it is correct, I am going with the info that I originally recieved and that is on the TM site. The Music Park is a great venue and I can't wait to see them there again. BTW the Mule has played there before in '99 for the Summer Sessions shows with SCI, Galatic, and moe., I know because I was there.

I stand corrected! Thanks for the correction RB. I was going off what the website had posted and it said they were playing in Heaven. I didn't even think to look at my tickets. I just called the venue and they confirmed that the show WILL BE in the outdoor Music Park. There is a fairly large parking lot adjacent to the venue where most people park. This would be an easily accessible pre-show meeting spot. See you there!

Good deal, thanks for getting it confirmed HaagenDazs! Like you said before it is a great venue, my favorite outdoor venue in Atlanta. Looking forward to it! I will be there with a large group of friends as it is part of my friends bachelor party but will try to get together with some folks if you pick an area. We will be cutting the time close as we are going to try to see as much of the UGA-South Carolina football game on TV that starts at 5:30 before going to the concert. It is going to be a heck of a day. Go Dawgs!

Anyone have any thoughts of tailgating or anything before the show? I've never been to the Masquerade, but drove by it the other day to scout out the scene, the lot across the street is downright massive....not sure what the tailgate possibilities are like...

ive never been to the music park of the masquerade. Is it big? small? medium? How does it compare to venues like the variety or tabernacle?

I've never been either, Cortez, but my understanding is that it holds about 1,500 people?
Wow. I didn't realize that "the doors open" at 6:00. What time does the friggin' concert start? Is there an opening act? That's going to cut into some Georgia football. We may have to tailgate and listen to the radio outside the park or at a bar nearby. Looking forward to it Ryan!! By the way man, the government should declare my yard a national disaster area. Jesus! I thought Frances was going to blow my ass away Monday night. Power was out for over 15 hours, which I know is nothing compared to the suffering of those poor people in Florida, but still it caused much more extensive damage in Georgia than I expected.

oh wow, i didnt realize it was that many. I had the understanding that it was more like a club sized venue but bigger than the masquerade inside size.

I'm not sure of any specifics guys, but it is definetly smaller than The Tabernacle. I'd say closer in size to the Roxy of years past. They are playing the outdoor venue which is much more... original, I'll say than the inside. The Masquerade itself is an old cotton mill, I think, which has floors that suit several different applications. Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell are the 3 floors, with Heaven serving as the main concert floor. Other floors play smaller bands or serve as dance floors. The Music Park outside, is a nice, rustic venue with lots of charachter. It will be a memorable show, I'm sure. I'm hoping for a cool night with lots of great lighting and new songs! The parking lot for the Masquerade is the only place in the area for tailgating, I wouldn't stray too far from there. It's not a physically dangerous place, but you may return to your car without a side window if you're not with the "main crowd". I think you all know what I mean! Be sure and post any special plans for pre-show meetings here, It'd be nice to hang with folks before the show! See ya there.

Not sure if I'll make it - really want to!

I'll be driving in from Illinois on Fri/Sat.

Would anyone be interested in handing out HTN flyers at the end? Ryan?

Hope GT beats Clemson in our ACC opener - in Death Valley!

JNB

I just bought a ticket this morning.

JNB, I wouldn't mind passing out the flyers but I have a pretty hectic schedule the next few days (Colts on tv tonight, driver to airport Saturday morning). I guess it depends how easy it would be to get me the flyers. Send me a PM if you want to talk about it.

also Ryan

Michael,

According to the tickets the show starts at 7:30. The plan is to listen to the 2nd half of the Dawgs game while tailgating. The good thing is that you can see and hear when the band takes the stage from the parking lot.

Cortez,

Invision the venue as a mini, mini Lakewood without the seats, just grass and a stage. You are going love it, great place to see a show.

JNB,

I imagine I could handle that assuming I am still standing after the Dawgs and the Mule it is going to be a long day (in a good way), maybe Michael will give me a hand. Send me a PM and let me know about picking up the flyers.

Slidemon, ?.

As far as meeting up with folks, as I said before we are going to have us a crew of folks down there so it is kind of hard to cordinate everyone's schedules. We will be in the lot next to the venue, tailgating by a black 2003 toyota 4 Runner. Listen for Larry Munson and the Dawgs on the radio and look for a group of fellas in their mid to late twenties...that is us. I will be the tall, thiner one in the group, Michael will be the bearded guy who favors Goliath (David Wyatt) if you have met him. Come on by and say hi we would love to met ya. Also I bet JNB will give me some extra flyers if anyone else is interested in distributing them.

As far as the neighborhood down there goes here is a quick story. I left the bar area of the Masquerade one night and was returning to my car in the aforementioned parking lot when an older, fairly ghetto, street person approaches me. Naturally I figure he is going to ask me for money or just generally harrass me, but instead he asks me if I have any drugs which I thought was funny and kind of backwards so I responded "nah...sh*t, shouldn't I be asking you that question?!"

Belair,

I'll check for you guys in the parking lot (I can't decide if you'll be an easy group to spot or just one of the many Dawg/Mule doubleheaders). We'll see about the flyers then. Like I said, my only obstacle would be getting ahold of them. Passing them out is easy and probably a good chance to sober up a bit.

Hi Ryan - thanks so much for your help!!!

We should have flyers printed up by Friday and if you wanted to stop by the office that would be great. Just co-ordinate with Rob Johnson in our office (770-640-1124). If you can't make it by the office perhaps he can meet you at the show.

We are going to staple to the flyers a special subscription offer for the magazine (which will take a lot of time) so please make sure these do get handed out and not left in someones trunk!

Thanks man,

Joe

Slidemon,

This is true, but the parking lot is not very big so we shouldn't be that hard to spot. I am going to call Rob tomorrow to cordinate getting them although I will probably just try to meet him down there. I'll let you know what we intend to do and hopefully you can just meet us then. I'll be in touch.

I'm not sure how to take this. No offense to David, but he has at least 20 years on me. Christ! I will not be wearing my tropical shirt that day, so there should be no mistaking me for Goliath. It's going to be a toss up between red and black and an ABB T-shirt. I might have to do a quick change in the parking lot.

I'll try to hand out a few flyers--sort of stumble around Atlanta that night, "wandering aimlessly," with HTN flyers in my hand.

I'm getting excited just thinking about it. What is this? the second show of the tour? I really hope they mix it up a bit, keep us guessing.

My only prayer is that we can maintain. A Georgia game followed by a Mule show, followed by a night in Buckhead? Any one of the three can be a recipe for disaster!

Hey! I live a block from the bars in Buckhead, so I'll probably be on the prowl down there after the show, too. Right now I'd have to lean toward the acoustic garage stylings popular at CJ's Landing.

Jeez, Michael I didn't say y'all were twins, but hair color, facial hair, generally build (although Goliath is bigger...naturally), and so on y'all look a bit alike.

I would imagine we will hear some new tunes.

Yes it will be debacle.

Slidemon,

When I am in Buckhead (I live in Dunwoody) you can normally find me at Mike & Angelo's, followed by Loco's or Pool Hall (or whatever they are calling it these days). You ever spend any time at M&A's outback listening to Swami? Of course after the Mule show and a Georgia game I don't know if I will be able to handle anymore loud music. CJ's might not be a bad option.

I like M& A's, too, but I've had a few 'incidents' there. Probably nothing that anyone there would remember, but the potential for embarassment and or recognition tends to keep me in safer harbors.

CJ's is always the 1st bar on the route from my apartment, so it usually becomes first and last stop. Shaping up for a pretty good saturday.

Incidents huh?, more please! That is an easy place to have some incidents at.

This is not a written rule or anything but I think in the bar world it is cool to go back to the scene of the "crime" after a two to three week self imposed banishment. Can I get a confirmation on that from anyone?
