Just returned from Best Buy on a CDR buying trip. Picked up a (50) spindle of Japanese discs. Shelf marked $19.99 - ouch. I'll take one and hope they come out on sale soon.

Go to checkout and the price comes up $13.99 - whoa! I went back to get another spindle. Go back to checkout $30.15 out the door for (100) discs - sweet.

PLUS $6.00 rebate per spindle

Sale dates are 8-29-04 thru 9-4-04

Get'em while the gettin's good

Hi Slammer

Good find on those Japanese Fujis.
From what I hear, they can be found on sale all over
BECAUSE Fuji is no longer using Japan for manufacture.
(All those Japanese Fujis were really made by Taiyo Uden).
So snap up all you can find, because they won't be around much longer.
(TYs will be around, just not manufacturing for Fuji anymore!)

I gleaned this info from the etree email discussion lists, so I assume the info is reliable.

This is all pretty strange.

The fuji TY's disappeared from shelves a few months ago...

I just noticed myself that they are back, as Steve has said..

Maybe they found a big vault with a bunch of extras?

I have not seen any of the "new" ones yet,
but what I heard was to make certain that what you pick-up does say "Made In Japan."

The Best Buy near me had a mix of Jap & Taiwan discs. Had to sift through them to find the Japs.

That's correct, John

In little small print

The Best Buy around me has always had Japanese Fujis, that's Birdcage if you're interested John.

Ron used to get more than one rebate, didn't you Ron?

BTW, John, you going to see any shows at the fair this year? Doobies? Los Lonely Boys?

Maybe I'll see you there

Hi Slammer

Don't think so. Too hot, too many people.
For me more than 2 is a crowd. Can't take crowds.
Just gonna hole up here in MidTown

i was at a best buy saturday night and all they had were the taiwan fuji's. i haven't been able to pick up any jap. fuji's for probably close to a year now.

i've been ordering the TY's online for 25 bucks a hundred, but lately i've noticed that they are sticking to the plastic on the paper sleeves - the paper envelope ones with the clear plastic on one side. i thought i was going to pull the top off this one disc (my 5-2-70 ABB) trying to get it out of the sleeve. not sure what i'm going to do now, never had a problem with that from the fuji's. i'm in the garland/richardson/plano/mesquite area in texas.

peace
steve

Thanks Steve! Best Buy is the only place I'm able to get Japanese Fujis. The 50 CD spindles are always Jap. at the Best Buy here, but the 100's are Taiwan. ???

There isn't a store in the town I live in that carries Fuji japs...they only carry Fuji Taiwan.

I think it is a regional thing on the JAP Fujis. None in KC that I can find anywhere. I was in Cincinatti last week and they were in the Walmart, Kmart Everywhere. Couldn't find any from Taiwon ( I was curious).

Right before I stopped finding them here in KC it was always a mix, now nothing.

Now The link in the above thread for Ty-Yudens at media Supply also will sell you 100 Jap Fujis for $32.00 + shipping

If you don't use the right link to Media supply though, the prices on the Silver Tys are higher. Apparently they made a deal for Traders. I tried media Supply.com and they were about $8.00 higher.

I like the Blank Silver ones cause I can draw all over them before I ship them out!

Anyone not getting rebate checks from fuji?

I thought I had gotten the shaft on my last 2 for $10.00(2 seperate address's), they even sent a card that said I didn't qualify(both address's). 3-4 months later, I get a check. I had decided no more fuji's, but even at $14.00 I'll risk not getting the $6.oo rebate.

Lot's of talk on the p-zone on fuji rebate problems.

A fuji may be a fuji, philly bob- but an at&t, or PNY, or store brand will have a fault sooner ...

I take decent care of my cd's, could be better, but I have had more skips and pops from 150 AT&T, and 106(still got the other 94) PNY. I make copies that play good for a month or two then they get skips and pops(laying in the same stack w/ fuji's)
But jap vs ty has been done to death.

Oh No we are not finished discussing this. We are traders and we care.

The way I understand it, and I would love to know more, The TYs (Japs) have a better quality recording media. But equally if not more important is the front side covering or the surface that fuji or TDK or whoever puts their name on. When it goes the disc is trash period. I like the silver TYs (not just cause i can draw on them) but I worry if the surface of what is basically a generic disc is gonna last as long as the inferiror Fujis from Cambodia or where ever. Nobody complains about TDK (except the price) and they are made in Taiwan. So what is more improtant the media inside or the surface outside.... I MUST KNOW!
