Can someone please post a review of the sound quality of the Allmans Macon 72 Archive release? I was disappointed in the sound quality of the Stoneybrook show so I'm hoping this is much better. Thanks very much.

Dave

I'm no expert or anything but I think it sounds just fine how it is.
And it was remastered by our own Captain Skipper.
Thanks Capt Skipper for doing such a good job on remastering this show!

There's a big thread where people wrote reviews about this album, not sure if any of them wrote about the sound quality though.

Dave, I know what you mean about Stoneybrook. Trust me, this 72 is a lot better than that!

It is very good - nice and clear, and not too dissimilar in standard to some of the GD tapes that circulate from that period (if you're familiar with any of that stuff, you'll realise the depth of the compliment!) Plaudits to Skip & everyone else involved, for whatever was done to get it to us in the condition it's in.

With that said, there ARE one or two minor sound "issues" - namely, a bit of static on the second disc. It's not awful, but it was enough for me to query with the guys at HTW - Joe Bell was good enough to get back to me and confirm that, yes, there are still static spots on there. In fact, gent that he is, Joe offered to replace my copy for free - it wasn't necessary, but I appreciated the gesture enormously. Thanks Joe.

I agree with all of the above (except for PauliG who I hope gets his copy soon ). My own personal gauge on sound is whether I'm surprised at anything that I hear, and I was pleasantly surprised how clear the vocals and drums/percussion are.

To my ears, Skip and the others have done a great job. It would be accurate to say it's a historical show, given the time period for the band, but more importantly it was a smokin' show. Great YDLM and Les Brers.

My thanks to all involved in this project!

I thought it was much better than the previous two releases. Loved hearing Les Brers. Great job Capt.

With Stonetbrook we were warned in the liner notes about the 1st 4 cuts, but to my ears Macon Auditorium sounds better than any of Stoneybrook...even the songs that come after the 1st 4.

I would rate it "excellant".
