Hi Folks,
Im in need of a little help here.I recently got in touch with a trader through this board to set up a bit of disc trading. I sent my list of shows to this trader (dont want to name them or give my real log-in name, I' m using my daughters computer) in the first week of June 04. Got a reply a day later with a request for quite a number of shows. I picked an equal number of shows from their list and got mine in the post 3 days later. I have had one reply since to say my shows had not yet arrived. And all my subsequent e-mails have gone unanswered from the trader. All the other traders I have traded with in the past have got the discs out within a week or two at the very most. We are now looking at 11 weeks with absolutely nothing.
Should I start to think I may not get anything in reply from this person?
Do I name them so as not to let anyone else get ripped off?
Do I give it up as a bad trade?
Please help.

It's very rare that you would get burned from any regular here. But if they are from here please by all means say there name. It could be that there's a simple explanation
as to why you havn't been contacted, and that someone here might just know what that
explanation is and can give you some more insight?

Spit out the name. Maybe it will get resolved faster if they see their name out there!!!

Go ahead and list the shows you were supposed to be getting. If I have any of them, I'd be happy to send you a freebie.

Give out the name - it only means you're wondering about the trade for now - you haven't said anything slanderous yet.

Hope it's not me - lol!

Trading is one of my favorite things to do. I havent been ripped off, but I would just post the name in the web, and just keep emailing him.

I have a question, say I make a trade with someone. I get their trade in the mail, is it alright to put that on my trade list?

After 11 weeks and several unanswered emails, I doubt you'll be getting anything from this trade....that's unfortunate....sorry to hear about your troubles, but maybe the person on the other end ran into some trouble and it couldn't be helped....

Either way, I would give up on this trade....

Of course. How else would your list grow (except for other means of obtaining shows, such as downloading - bands other than the ABB, of course).

I dont really want to name them, but also dont want anybody else getting ripped off.
Their could well be a reasoable explanation as to why I have had no reply.I will e-mail them a few more times and see what happens, then I may consider naming and shaming.
Thanks for the offer slowhand6, but if I list the shows the trader will know my real identity and could come on this board and say its me not replying to his e-mails. Its a catch 22 situation.

I'd bet that if you did name names, you'd get your shows....

I ain't one for startin' junk, but after 3- 4 weeks, and no response to e-mails.... it's time to drag them out on the carpet and let us all kick 'em.

I have made numerous mistakes w/ numerous people, and to the best of my knowledge I have corrected them. (EVEN IF IT TOOK 6 MONTHS, RIGHT SLAMMER.) I ain't perfect by any means, but if you ain't getting replies from a regular poster we should all be fore-warned.

I used to take this junk too seriously, then I realized I'm in it for the fun.

On the same subject, I'd be interested in some Atlanta recordings of ABB and Gov't Mule. I've always been very interested in trading, but I've never gotten into it. Is there a way I could trade some blank disks or postage cost for a bit of a start up collection? Any help is appreciated, THANKS!

Add Derek Trucks Band to my list, if you please! Herring, Dead, Project Z, Oteil, Warren, any connection to ABB is well received. Thanks again

Go to the Trades section, I'm sure you will find something there.

I dunno, this makes it sound a bit fishy to me. The "offender" got a BUNCH of shows and sent nothing in return. I'd look out when someone picks more than one or two shows at one time. Give them a trial period at first to see how they do, then trade away if it works out. There's rarely an excuse for not answering an email.

widvic,
I just had the same thing happen to me
first do everything you can to communicate and find out what's up
if the dude or dude sister still doesn't reply
throw your moral reservations out and post their name
I too had a trade extending to 3 months and sent about 15 discs. posted his name up
and miraculously he replied in a few hours saying it was on his thiongs to do and would have it out tomorrow, it's not about shaming the person in question but bringing it out into the daylight. Maybe this trader needs a swift kick to get his/her act together or maybe we all need to know not to do dealings. I've also been on the other side of the tracks and amazingly people came to my defense. so if the trader is cool that to will be just as evident.
Inquiring minds wanna know, was it that WharfRat???

You're Golden in my book.

Going to the extent you did for the show we fussed over for a year.

Hell, I'd vote for you for trader of the year.

Right after me.

If I had two votes.

HI CLAY!

the thing to do is post the name. i'd do so in the trade section of this board, as an ISO of: (whatever the name is)

than you say i've tried to email you several times over our trade and have not recieved a response or the disc. can you please contact me and let me know the status of our trade.

this tells:
1. if you're slackin' or ripping me off, you've just got them stone cold busted because it's posted on the board and they won't be able to rip anyone else off. if they do expect to trade on the board again they will need to clear this trade up, because trades will avoid them like the plague after seeing a post like this.

2. experienced traders can read between the lines when they see a polite post like this, realzing that something has either gone horribly wrong with the trade (occasionally) or you got ripped off. people who have had trading experiences with this trader will usually post as well telling how their trade went

hope this helps. sorry you haven't received your shows yet.

also in the future, when "tradin'" with someone for the first time, i'd limit the trade to a small amount of disc (<5). if the trade goes well you can always set up another one with that person.

peace
steve

Let me just say that, I have only traded a few times with people on here. However, EACH time has been VERY positive. In about 2000, I didn't have a collection. A fire destroyed my old collection (tapes then) and the rest just sort of disappeared somehow. At any rate, I was starting over. I asked a stranger, hesitanty, how I should go about starting it back up. Within two weeks, I received twelve tapes - with no request for any type of payment... If I remember correctly, I sent them blanks - but was such a rookie at "professional trading" that I didn't get the right kind and I think, in retrospect, I may have offended them. This was on the old version of this forum and I think they changed screen names when the format changed.

Sure wish I knew who it was so I could repay the kindness.

It's all about the music - very giving community - sounds like a good opportunity to hold someone accountable, or, eliminate a weak link in an otherwise strong chain.

Mike
