Just a question that's been nagging me for a long time now. Why does this incarnation of the band leave out a verse, the last one before the first solo (third overall I believe)? Just wondering if there's any significance to this.

So that they can play other songs for 20 minute stretches?

I'd have no quabbles if that were actually the real reason.

They also cut the last verse of "Black-Hearted Woman", I think it might just be a repeated verse, but you know, I actualy prefer it coming out of the solos, doing the fake ending and then going into the 6/8 jam... I'm not sure I've really noticed "Trouble No More" has been missing a verse. Maybe it's just been so long since I've listened to the original! Man, I gotta go hear that now.

Don't know/haven't heard anything about this, but just thinking about it logically has me thinking perhaps he's trying to conserve his voice...?

Which verse is this? "I tell everybody in my neighborhood..."?

correct. Now that you guys aren't so sure about it, I'm gonna have to go back and listen to it myself to see if I might just be crazy, something my family's been wondering for a long time.

Hey, we've all been there. I'll give the One Way Out version a spin when I get home. Of course, maybe someone here can do it sooner and put the question to rest.

Okay, I'll do it. This is my third listen. I keep getting locked into the groove and not focusing enough to think about any 'phantom' verse.

I don't hear the "I tell everybody in my neighborhood" verse. Gregg doesn't mix things up much vocally, so I assume it's not a fluke unique to this one show. I wonder when this happened?

It's on the Beginnings version of the song. It's also in the lyrics section online.

Maybe he meant it's a question worth having me look in to.

Haha. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure what I meant. Maybe it was that elusive 700th post? I don't have any Warren-Dickey era recordings with Trouble No More on them, so I don't even know when this verse was dropped. All my recordings before this have the verse on them I believe. I just checked the setlists and it was played in '89 and not again until '97 when Jack came on board. I'll have to check on my recordings to see when exactly the verse was dropped, I have a hunch though that it was during this current incarnation of the band. But that still doesn't answer the question of why.

I noticed that on TNM & BHW in 2002 and they have both been that way since. I intended to pinpoint when they began leaving these out but never did. I do know they have been out consistantly since 2002 though and I believe they may have been out since 2000 or 2001.
