Clay, old man, may be time to get Linnie to help you with the old standby and never failing original computer, the ABACUS 1.0, with no need to update the operating system

Linnie, what kind of checksums do you think he will need to boot it up?

Cheers

Well I'm gonna try to back up what I can tonight, but it's probably all for not. I've been running it with my anti virus disabled and didn't know it. Now it's infected and Norton says it can't fix the problem unless I'm conected to the net. Well guess what? I can't get a connection to the net! So I guess I'm gonna have to re-configure the hard drive and start over from scratch?

Clay, I feel your pain! Mine crashed several months ago and I have no backup. I know, shame on me! My only means of getting online now is my daughter's old laptop.

Good luck to you!

Clay, my friend, I am sending positive thoughts to your email machine.

I gotta get my main one fixed.

It hasn't been able to go online for quit a while.

It says the modem is working fine, but then when I try to logon, it says there is no dial tone.

Bummer.

Well from the bottom of my puters heart it thanks everyone for the positive vibes! It certinally wants to be fixed, because it's been around here long enough to that if it can't, then it will be taken out and shot.

I'll spare you the dancing teddy bears and all that stoopid crap that came with this email....

Computer Prayer"
Every night I lie in bed
This little prayer inside my head...
God bless my mom and daddy
And bless my little girls and boys
And take care of my husband
He brings me so much joy.
And God there's just one more thing
I wish that You would do
If You don't mind me asking,
To just bless my 'puter too??
Now, I know that its not normal
To bless a small machine
But listen just a second
And I'll tell you what I mean...
You see, that little metal box
Holds more than odds and ends.
Inside those small components
Rest a hundred loving friends.
Some, it's true, I've never seen
And most I've never met;
We've never shaken hands
Or ever truly hugged, and yet,
I know for sure they love me
By the kindnesses they give,
And this little scrap of metal
Is how I get to where they live
By faith is how I know them,
Much the same as I know you,
I share in what life brings them
So if it's OK with you..
Just take an extra minute
From Your duties up above
To bless this little hunk of steel
That's filled with so much love.

Our Computer,
Who art in Centrals,
Hallowed be Thy screen.
Thy Keyboard come,
Thy will be done on Drive as it is in Memory.
Give us this day our daily Mail;
And forgive us our hackings,
As we forgive those who programmed You with bugs;
And lead us not into crash,
But deliver us from virus.

My computer harddrive crashed, or was damaged a couple of years ago and I had to get a new harddrive. Then it was under warranty, so a tech was sent to my house and put in a new harddrive. If the same damage occurred again today, I would rush out and get me a nice BIG harddrive. So Clay, this could also be an opportunity for you to upgrade. And I keep several documents on my mom's computer, a setlist document, a live shows document, etc. And I was thinking recently if I got a bigger harddrive that I might be able to give my harddrive to my mom. Perhaps my harddrive would be compatible. I don't know a thing about compatibility of harddrives. Anyway, I think I could put all of my important stuff on a diskette, or a couple of them. I just use my computer for trading, looking for a better job, etc. And Clay you could also just simply enjoy some down time. No b and ps, trades, etc. Just hang out with the family. Me, I have to hang out with my cat. But at least I have a very cool 13 year old cat.

I wish I could blame my slackness on my 'puter. Unfortunately, it's just me being slack. Good luck getting the old gal up and running, Clay.

If it has to be shot then maybe Skip can shoot it with his shotgun when he gets it working.
But I hope it survives.

Clay I feel for ya, I had to have my hard drive wiped and reloaded a few months ago, wasn't fun. Positive vibes heading your way!

Of course I really do hope you can fix it, but if it can't be fixed then I say give it both barrels!

What are y'all a bunch of Jehovah's Witnesses??? Say a prayer and hope the thing heals itself? LOL, man. Take the thing to the computer doctor, it sounds like it won't be hard to fix. The doc will take the viruses off and then reload your software, if the software is too messed up. That's all there is to it. Worse case scenario the doc will transplant a new hard drive for ya.

You get hold of a pissed off 30llb blue cat you may have bitten off more than you can chew?????

Clay, I feel for you.

Had something like that happen about a year ago. I decided to install a new hard drive and leave the old one in the PC as well. Changed a jumper setting on the old one to set it up as a "slave" and installed the operating system on the new drive. The data files on the old drive were still good. I was able to rescue some digital pictures that were irreplacable. Not to mention that the new drive was twice the size of the old one and spun at 7200rpm instead of 5400 rpm. At that time, I added a 40 gig hard drive for about $40 after rebates.
