Posted this in Butch's section also....

OK, i noticed that the back page of the Relix this month has a really nice ad for MOOGIS.....looks like it might be a show of some sort...and i was quite excited that they list a domain to visit....my bubble just burst though since that site is not up yet...

moogis.com

another clue to this mystery is that the domain name is owned by Jam Music Corp, and the technical contact is none other than CLAUDE TRUCKS....

OOOOOO my nerves......

I saw the full page ad on the back of High Times a couple of weeks ago. It seems an awful waste of marketing dollars to advertise a Web site that doesn't yet exist.

Most of the folks who had never before heard of Moogis will visit the site, find nothing but a place marker, and then never return. Someone's timing seems to be off.

For a marketing campaign of this nature to succeed, there needs to be a reason for casual visitors -- brought there by the full page ads -- to return at a later date. And godaddy.com is not a good enough reason.

While downloading a GD show via etree, I came across this term: Ogg Vorbis . . . the similarity of letters/sounds (like they came from the same planet, Hi, I'm Ogg Vorbis, and this is little Moogis) caught my interest. Related in some way, perhaps?

I'm with Jonesy. This is something more than just one show. Should be interesting.

My guess is the Brothers will be rolling out some sort of digital library for fans to download shows...for a price. While I imagine current shows would be easy to deal with (Phish has done this for years, as has String Cheese Incident), the historical shows would be the ones that would be great to have access to, particularly if they are putting together a base of shows that fans do not already have. Remember when the band pulled their shows from the download sites??? I'm guessing that was the start of this.

I have absolutely no information on this whatsoever...I guess this is what I am hoping for though!!

that would be really, really cool provided that we could still do our little trading thing....

Nice guesses, but you're all wrong I could tell you exactly what Moogis is, but then I'd have to kill you, and we don't want that. As for the cryptic marketing strategy, when you see how big of a deal this turns out to be, you may understand the long lead-in time.

Yes, exactly. And it's not really ruining the surprise. I'd just rather be surprised now instead of waiting for months and months.

I would suggest we hatch a plot to "borrow" Rob, and put headphones on him, cranked to maximum volume. Perhaps put on the Osmond Brothers until he cries uncle

Yeah, almost all of the other ideas seem more likely. But as long as we're wildly speculating....

I have no idea what Moogis is about -- no one has told me anything. Of course, I haven't asked anyone either.

Given that I have no inside knowledge on this issue, Iíll feel free to speculate. Butch's involvement leads me to believe this may have something to do with Flying Frog Records. What does Flying Frog need right now? More artists! I'm going to guess this has something to do with providing a marketplace to help unsigned artists get exposure. Or something like that Ö

However, I still believe that itís a mistake to buy the back cover of several magazines and direct them to a non-existent web site. At the very LEAST there ought to be a page with graphics similar to the ad itself with text inviting visitors to return later. Even better, there would be a place for visitors to sign up for more information via email -- email addresses are like gold in a marketing campaign.

We on this site are titillated by the suspense -- weíll keep returning until we know what itís about -- but the average joe who visits a web site based on a glossy ad will take one look at all that GoDaddy.com stuff and go away never to return, Iím afraid.

I just hope Moogis is the name of a Startrek-like transporter to bring the guys over to Europe - I don't want downloads - I want them - here - UK / Holland / Finland / Sebia (no, no, Zoran would never let them leave !) - almost anywhere this side of the pond would do !

Yeah, we all did that already.

I think Hophead's point is valid. Counter-productive, to say the least (the ad, not your point, heh).
