Hey Dean,

You just don't get it, man. This animosity toward you is of your own doing. You try and turn it around and hold everyone else responsible. But it's you and only you who has alienated yourself from the community here. The way I see things, it's pretty darn tough to get banned from a forum, and you've had two of your usernames banned. That says volumes about your character. You claim to have turned over another leaf and we should all forget about the past? I don't think so.

Here is what it's all about: Community. This is a coming together of people with common interests. This isn't even about the music, or the ABB. It's about the people sharing ideas, debating theories, and having discussions about all different subject matter. Treating people with respect and being respected are the fruits of intelligent, non-judgemental, contributing community family members.

There are folks here that have taken exception to your past behavior. There are the people that you have verbally abused and have taken it and moved on. There are folks here that will stand up to your bullying tactics and bashing ways by sabotaging every post you make, sort of like the defenders of the easily intimidated. That is what you are experiencing right now. People are now just dishing it back to you, and you have a problem with that. Hurts, doesn't it?

It will take some time before you are made to feel welcome here again. There are those forgive and forget folks who will always overlook the bad in people and have hopes for a this point forward type of relationship, and God blessed those people who can. However, There are also many people who cannot or will not forgive or forget your past, and some folks are passionate about not making you feel welcome here anymore. It's really too bad, for you, that you have fueled the fire of discontent amongst a great bunch of people who hang on this site.

As far as you turning others on to this site, and them getting the same treatment as you, well, can you say guilty by association? I mean a friend of Dean's can't be any good either, right? It's too bad about Iain'ttheone. He got swept up in your problems here and received the treatment usually reserved for you. Perhaps some of us jumped too quickly to judgement, but I can't says I blame them.

I really don't know what you can do to remedy the situation. Some might say to not hang here for a while. Others might say you can stay but restrict your posts to superficial responses with no opinions so you don't ruffle any feathers. Others might say fly below the radar, lurking and enjoying the quips and quotes of others. I don't know.

Do we have the right to demand a certain type of behavior here? You bet we do. We will type and post to defend that right, some to the point of being rude and inconsiderate of others' feelings. Sound familiar?

All I do know is that this is our community. Our family. You harm one and you've harmed us all. When one is hurting, we're all hurting. We are here to support one another when times are bad and share laughs and chuckles when times are good. This is the most inclusive group of people I've had the pleasure of meeting. Many great, entertaining folks here, hardly exclusive.

Dean, I wish you good luck in the future and hope that you might take this opportunity to do some self reflection and come to see the goodness in people. I also hope that the goodness shared here can rub off on you to help make you a more caring, sharing and contributing member of OUR family.

Later, Dude

Steve, I told you that I Ain't The One was a real person and it appears that you are finally having an attack of conscience. Yes, that was very dirty what you did to Stan.

And there is no guilt by association to me, but it is true that I have been stigmatized, judged, removed, etc, and people like you don't want to let me get on with my life to see if I can perhaps right a wrong in this community, or to see the "brighter light".

And of character, what do you know of character? You can't simply excuse your bad behavior and say I make you act this way. You need to control yourself. When I make a jackass out of myself, I am responsible for having lost control. The same goes for you.

And another thing, have we met, traded, had any dealings online? From your first attacks I was asking myself who are you? I suppose Ron is your friend, your amigo. You are Steve L from CA but beyond that how is it that I know you? And what personal association with me now gives you the justification to put me on trial?

It is very true that me and a few others bickered here publicly. And you know at the end of it all, a year or so later, I was forced to come to the acceptance that I had come here more arrogant and ignorant than I had wanted to admit, because they were here first, people like Phillybob, Clay, Skip and they were my principle detractors. I really didn't have the appreciation that I should have had for who they are, and what they do here. To these three people in particular, the abb is larger than life. I realized too that I had to concede that they and many others will always be greater fans than myself. I'm a minor fan in this crowd. My main interest is collecting certain shows. I don't enjoy seeing the band live as much as I enjoy collecting some shows. And I feel that way about many bands. I enjoy the audio more than the video. And most importantly, I don't have the money to go to live shows, of any band. So that is why I enjoy the audios the most.

Anyway Steve, even though I don't think the two of us even informally met, I do understand where you are coming from. I think you are taking ME too seriously. I don't think I am worthy of this attention. I know I offered Slowhand6 a free show last night when I couldn't find anything on his list that I also wanted to trade for. I didn't want to be a jerk, so I offered him the show. The AKUS show is not crap, is not flawed, but I can improve the tracking, and it needs an edit for some stuff that should not be on it, like half of a filler song on disc two.

Anyway, after I finished fighting viciously with many people in the forum, after I was banned, after some time, I had a better perspective of things. And I was HARDLY the only person who behaved very badly in this forum, but I was one who was banned. And that is ok, life isn't always necessarily fair.

And I can also tell you that some that continued here are bigger fans than myself. I mean, I tre of it all after a while. I mean, I enjoy this website to an extent, the bands related to this band, etc. But those few who consider themselves forum police, keepers of the forum, the faith, , etc, well I wonder about some of those people sometimes. I mean, at the height of my own bad behavior I was a presence, a force. Now, I'm barely a whimper here and somehow I am driving Steve L crazy, forcing you to act out. Steve, I just think you also need to take responsibility for your behavior. I'm working on my backyard. You work on yours.

And I don't think that the people who fought with me hate me. And I don't think they think I hate them. I think on both sides we felt we had to do, what we had to do. And from where I sit, I think the forum is a better place, and it's full of young people now. The forum has changed for the better. It is a much kinder place. The forum I found four years ago was hardly a kind place. I came in at the latter days of the "Dickey is gone" phase. The worst of the fighting had subsided, so they told me. But the forum was extremely combative. And I had never posted to a forum. I had no clue as to how deep the community was. I simply jumped in trying to defend Dickey. I took his side.

If I had known what I know now, I wouldn't have acted at times the way I did. And I will tell you it is this simple, go to Dbetree.org, or to Phishhook.com and search the lists for people who have great abb collections, or simply great collections of music. These collectors have invested thousands of dollars, hours, years of their lives collecting this music. That really says it all. It means that much to them. So when I got perhaps too many great old abb shows too quickly I'm very certain I didn't have the appreciation that I should have had for it. I mean, there were tapers, people who held on to tapes for decades. Tapes were out there when I was in the first or the second grade. And the band broke up when I was only in about the seventh grade.

Anyway, as I said before, if you took the community, put it in a pot, boiled off the excess, you would come down to certain integral people in this community. The community is really much smaller than I had realized, that many people here are much more invested than I could ever have imagined, people like JNB, Hophead, EnigmaJean, Lana, Rowland, etc. The depth of the relationships in this community will never really be known to me. And the road here is not as long as it once was, but no one ever thought the road would wind on as far as it has.

Anyway, we have fans here who have met and married, divorced, remarried. People have been born connected to this community. Many fans have passed on. Those of you with deep relations, good friendships etc offline know more what this abb experience can be. I haven't shared those experiences, and I probably never will. I am envious of some of you. You get more out of this than I am able to. Some of you, many of you, naturally enjoy this community more than I can. I don't have as much in common with some here as others do.

But anyway, Steve, I think I understand exactly what you are saying. but I don't want to go away, to stay away. Liking this music is almost a weakness with me. Some of it is excess, not that important. But some of the music, the heritage, the history cuts straight to my bones, it was always there from the forty five that I had of Ramblin Man, to the time I bought the First ABB record at the flea market. I looked at the photo, was impressed. I knew I should know who those guys were but it was just almost like some unconscious connection. It was a myth that I was only vaguely familiar with. I knew these guys were cool, that they had done something cool. I was just too young and naive. Anyway, this website is the touchstone. This is yet another place where it all begins. No, I don't want to be excluded from all aspects of this community.

And yes, I have made mistakes.

hey now
slammer you say what most feel
Dean, the mirror can sometimes be a painful thing
but also one for growth
I think you have some worthy imput
you obviously know a bit about the band and other southern music
but first and foemost is as Slammer mentioned community and respect for all
the brothers and sisters here. i would almost recommend keeping distance from
trading here, i just don't think you can help yourself. You start out good then that
ole' SM comes a creeping in, with comments that are seen by many as abrasive and cutting. like having to "relenquish a freebie, forward address via BnP" . What is that, like a forfeiture or something. Do you think the other trader really wants the show anymore now that you're having to surrender it. I know i wouldn't. the only reason for me not returning what you returned to me was to just end the cycle becasue it had no good end to it. So I ask that you consider keeping it cordial and perhaps giving the traders a break here. No one wants to trade if it's a hassle or subject to your criticisim being demeaned in the process. 'cause this is about community and sharing , as well as our appreciation for the Allman Brothers Band
peace out

You know MikeV, I have to tell you that I think I agree with you 100%. I mean, I think you described how I reacted last night with perfect accuracy. Yeah, I did start off trying to do a good deed. And I did end up being a bit of a pr!ck with those comments. And you know is the old forum struggle, the hurt, the animosity that crept back in. I was in that struggle here a while back. I wanted to be accepted. I liked doing b and p's and so on. I wanted to be liked, to be appreciated. But I came offering Skynyrd. I came cramming it down people's throats if I had to, and I did, and I did it over and over. And I went overboard praising Dickey as well. Those were some passions I brought here. My appreciation and praise of Skynyrd was nothing but controversial here. Fighting for Dickey was also a real drag. And in the end, I like others simply recognized that Dickey was still in the midst, still slinging some serious guitar, that he was alive and well.

Anyway, Mike, I did not give you that Yes show straight from the heart. It was half hearted. But then you already had a very strong preconceived idea of what to expect from me when you dealt with me. You then presented your trade in a very unorganized way, mislabeled shows, half a show. I'm not trying to down you, but I was only dealing through this forum hoping something good might come from it all. Sometimes good stuff comes through this give and take. But I am particular. I have a lot of music, and so I am specific in my requests. I'm not new at this. I am in fact usually pretty organized. I'm a good bit anal at times about stuff, and that was why I had two freebies last night. I just want to fix that show up to get the tracking right, to clean it up. And it will all be there, and tighter, more accessible. I have done this time and time again. It is something I do and enjoy. I like a project, a fixer upper.

And I still don't have those 89 and 90 shows. I gave up after I asked here. I shouldn't have asked here. And I should avoid this forum for the most part. I like dealing with more experienced and organized traders. They usually do me up right, and still I trade with many traders who less than organized. And I used to deal with one guy who labeled most all of his abb shows as A audios. I mean, I liked my trader friend, but it's pretty disappointing to get an obvious B show that is graded an A. But hey, he loves his band, so I understand.

But anyway, Mike, you're dead on the money. You said it better than I could. I had had an offer from Slowhand6 previously for a trade. I had checked his list. I have some narrow concentrations on my list. My new interests are bands like AKUS and also Susan Tedeschi. But I grow in my interests as I do. I like to concentrate on a band, as oppossed to seeding my list with all sorts of bands of which I know little about.

But anyway, yes, Mike, the more I come to this trade forum section, the more I seem to publicly get my asss in a bind. I think I prefer to scope out a list, to feel out a trader, to develop more of a relationship. That is the way I started doing it. Only later as I was posting to this forum did I feel compelled to shop my wares here, to participate. But yeah, it hasn't worked too well. And how can it work well with certain people kicking my asss left and right. It's hard.

Brocklang, here's your offer.

I'll trade you for the 73 TN abb show two discs
and I think the 89 Greek abb show is the one
that Clay keeps bragging on, says it's the best
one of 89 and that Sal Capitano taped it.
I would eagerly trade you for those two shows.
What? You laugh? I'm serious.
See my list at www.Tapetrader.com/JaminRebel.

I'm totally serious. Trade me those shows. And gaze at the
audio beauty which is my LIST. I worked hard collecting all of that
music. And I am very proud to have just added Sal's
1975 abb show to my list. It kicks. I don't care what
anybody says about the abb in 1975. I like the songs from
that album.

Dean, You are really going about this all wrong. You can't make demands of people and then expect them to take you seriously. Again, as I told you in private, no one but you can change you, and until you do please don't expect much help from anyone.

Can we get Dean booked on one of the daily talk shows?

Sally?

Dr. Phil?

Even when he tries to apologize, he insults people.

I hardly believe Clay, Skip, and Bob alll feel the ABB is larger than life.

Gimme a break.

'the Dude' as if he we're Elvis (aka the King) or something
that movie's hillarious also has John Goodman in supporting role
