Was just watching MSNBC a few minutes ago and they reported that unemployment was way down this quarter and more Americans are at work than ever before. They also report that the economy is rebounding and that sales of big ticket items are up. But if you look at Wall Street, all three biggies are way down again today. DJA is under 9000, NASDAQ under 1400, etc. So why doesn't this add up? We have lost everything, plus some, since the boon high of 1999/2000. There must be a whole lot more large corporations out there that are doing some serious numbers hiding (ala World Com, Xerox).

OWO- the markets are not necessarily sensitive to facts- lot's of folks are thinking the market is at the bottom right now. I would tend to agree with them although these terrorists threats have accomplished something that is not generally talked about and that is it has suppressed our markets and therefore created tension for the public on very personal matters. Absolutely amazing in my eyes but we are a nation of responders to the moment and that is exactly what the markets are doing.

Don't worry- I'm sure we'll find out who they are soon!

Yeah, people seem to get a little nervous when big corps start 'finding' very large debt 'lying' around...

OWO-The markets do not always act positive to good econmic news, nor do they always react poorly to bad econ news. For instance, they have predicted 9 of the last 4 recessions the past three decades. Which means the market 'saw' the economy heading into a receission 9 times but fortunately only did 4 times. The economy may be turning around on a few fronts, but investor confidence in the market is WAY down right now. If there are no buyers out there, stock prices won't go up. With the Worldcoms and Enrons of the world forcing the accounting world and public companies to report 'real' numbers, eventually this will have a very positive effect on the investor confidence and the market as a whole. Won't happen tomorrow though. We are going to hear a little more bad news RE corp acct, I think it will get just a little worse before it does turn around and the summer has historically ALWAYs been a poor time of year for the market. That being said, let's be happy that more people are with jobs, interests rates are still way low and it does seem that the economy is starting to pick up. Plus and quite possibly most important, the Allman Brothers Band are touring through Sept of this year!!!!
Peace,
Josh

I just wanna tell y'all that Austin Texas passed the universal living wage bill which means that if you work in a company in Austin, they HAVE to pay you a wage indexed to inflation and market prices so you will not have to pay more than 30% of your pay for RENT. Michigan is also considering this. Check out universallivingwage.org for more info and let's fix what needs to be fixed folks. The economy can be fixed.

The living wage bill is not all it is cracked up to be. Even if the minimum wage gets boosted up to, say, $11.00 an hour, it still does not allow you to do much more than live paycheck to paycheck and more than 50%(or more) of your check will go to rent. Education is the key here. Make it feasible for every one to go to college and learn something that will feed them beyond their 21st birthday. "Give people a fish and they eat for a day. Teach them to fish and the eat forever."
