A couple of friends and I were listening to the 3/19/04 version of "Desdemona," and we've come to the conclusion that that song was written for Derek just so he can tear it up on it. Does anyone agree?

Its very similar to estimated prophet in the fact that that song was written by boby for jerry to be really good on. The time signature it is in fits jerrys sound perfectly. I can't reacall at the time wat the time signature is but i no it was something messed up.

Peace
Lee

3/19 Desdemona is my favorite too. Derek's solo on that is one of my favorites too.

I believe Estimated Prophet is in 14 or 7, depending on how you break up the measures.

The 3/19 Desdemona is truly amazing, the second it ended I told JNB I thought it was the best version ever. The dynamics the drummers are playing behind the solos are incredible, and as you have all mentioned, Derek just tears it wide open.

This is my favorite new ABB song. The date it's played rarely matters. Though there are some versions/dates that sparkle a little more than others, it never fails to move me beyond words. Derek truly shines. Every single time. Derek's Desi solo moves me with the same intensity as his Dreams solo does. Each one opens the door so my soul can leave my body behind--giving it a little room to stretch.

I remember a couple of times last year (including some 2003 Beacon shows) where there was no Derek solo during Desdemona - now that was a bit dissapointing...

Well I would bet it wasn't necessarily written with Derek in mind but I must say the song fits Derek to a T! It is definitely my favorite of the new tunes and I've been known to search out multiple versions in one day just to get my Desdemona fill! Derek just keeps us wanting more of him on this - he really e-a-s-e-s into it beautifully. While we're on the subject, Warren doesn't do too bad of a job on this tune either. Check out live Beacon DVD and you'll see Warren answers Dereks high-wire riffs quite nicely! Its practically a perfect song - its got it all - great melody, beautiful lyrics, a stunning open-ended jam section that swings and a chance for everyone to shine. The Brothers at their current Jazzy best IMO...Sweeeeet.

The 3/19/04 Desdemona is jaw dropping for sure...also last years version from Red Rocks with Karl Denson guesting is way cool. Check this one out if you want to hear Karl being very Coltrane-like with elephant sounds coming from his sax. Listen for Marc on percussion actually following the marching-beat that Karl is laying down - amazing. Some of the best sax playing you'll ever hear.

I kind of like Desdemona with Horse preceeding it. Sort of fits nice. For me, the epic part of 3/19 was Why does love got to be so sad>Frankin's Tower w/ Oteil on vocals & Rob Barracco (sp) ripin the keys. Heard it 30 times at least and still gives me chills. Hope they play it at RR. Kyle Hollinsworth from SCI could handle the piano work, but I think that Barracco is with Chris Robinson (they are playing in Boulder at 11, though).

Anyway if you guys need 3/19, I can help. pm me.

TaperRob is King.

Every time I hear 3/19 on tape I think that for the most part it is a note-perfect show. Every version of every song with the possible exception of Don't Keep Me Wonderin' could be THE recorded version. Every note just sounds so perfect. Even though it was a fairly short show (I was there), it sticks out to me as the best ABB show I've seen, better than 3/25/03. I wish I could say that the band should release this commercially, but we already got One Way Out, there's a perfect recording of the show circulating, and it would be tough with all those cover songs.
