Last Sunday night, a Derek Trucks devotee was caught off guard at a Dickey Betts and Great Southern concert in Tallahasse. Dickey's powerful music invaded his soul and he realized that the current lineup of the Allman Brothers Band is a complete sham. "You can't call it the Allman Brothers without Dickey in there," said Michael Williams, a former poster to the Allman Brothers site, who claims he will never post there again. According to him, "Gregg and Butch suck. They teamed up with Warren and Derek to kick Dickey out of the band. Derek is actually nothing special. If I played the guitar, I could play much better than him. The new band sounds like Gov't Mule."
Williams claimed that the Dickey Betts show changed his life: "I wasn't prepared for it. I had no idea what he was going to play next. 'Ramblin' Man' came way out of left field. When he closed with 'Jessica,' I nearly **** my pants."

Why do you feel that you have to choose one over the other? Why not enjoy both bands since they're both amazing! I just saw Dickey recently too. Yes, he tore it up! I don't understand your logic at all.

There is no logic. I'm just joking. Sorry to offend. I thought that would be obvious to anyone.

That about sums it up.

It was a rare treat, Lee. I guess it was just a special show that night. I still have no idea why he played them both.

Brace yourself!!!!! He played that too!!!

Seriously, Dickey did earn my respect and admiration the other night and posting this was not to slight him or the ABB. I truly love them both, but I have decided to rededicate my life to him and I thought I would express my feelings in the language of Southernman--a true dickhead.

Well Michael, I would rather you just post that you enjoyed Dickey's show. I can enjoy a good joke as much as the next guy, but certain people without senses of humor could easily get very pissed off by reading your first post.

We have been having some pretty civil discussions about the whole Dickey issue here lately, and I would hate to see anything turn the discourse ugly again.

Those new to this forum and others recently turned on to the sound of Dickey Betts & Great Southern, I'll be offering up b&ps for a show fom last month here and on Dickey's site, probably Saturday.

Sorry. I know it's a sensitive topic. I sent it as an email to a friend of mine and I thought it was so funny, I posted it here. It's not as if I'm a lurker who did it to piss people off. It was completely tongue in cheek, but I guess I'll just leave it alone. This has never been an issue with me, so I don't get mad about it and don't understand people who do. But I see your point.

I love both bands equally and I think they are so different musically that they no longer even invite comparison. I couldn't be more pleased by the lineups of each band right now and I'm having the time of my life going to the shows, so I'm at the point where the comparison is so ridiculous that I HAVE to find it funny. I'm sorry that others aren't there yet.

Michael, it's cool....Probably because I'm familiar with your sense of humor I saw the humor right off. LOL I got a good laugh from it, especially the part about "Southernman was right all along"
