I really love this song, ofcourse I know the original song "There's a mountain" by
Donovan.

Does anyone know if this song has been played after Duane died ? I don't think so,
the guitar talking /playing/intermission of Duane and Dicky can't be replaced
by Warren and Derrek.....

I guess that means you haven't seen the band in the last few years and you haven't heard any shows. The band pretty much didn't play the song after Duane. But they opened the summer 2000 tour (the first one without Dickey) by playing Mountain Jam, and it's been part of the setlist ever since. They play it every two or three nights, and Warren and Derek do incredible things with it.

There's some pretty decent Mountain Jams from 72 and 73 also...

Oh, that's right. The five-man version of the band did the song too, and it looks like they kept doing it for all of 1973... there's only one MJ from '74 in the database, and not much after that. In the times it pops up, I'd like to know if they were full, long jams or not. Anyway, it was out of the repertoire from 1989 onward except for one time, after Dickey returned to the band following some personal problems in November '93.

They did it a whole lot with Jerry Garcia and Bob Wier in the early 70's. Then in the 90's they Warren and Dickey played it in the middle of Jessica.

I think there were 3 or 4 times when they played with the Dead... the Jessica thing was different, though, that was a short tease. They played the theme to the song and that was about it.

The MJ they played at Red Rocks last year was pretty hot, to say the least. Warren & Derek pretty much tore it up, with an inspired "Blue Sky" jam in the middle of the whole thing. Different than the origional version, but just as hot in my humble opinion.

Does the LS tribute band still play that bird song?

I've been out of the loop.

It's not usually a one-or-the-other kind of deal, but the nights where you get both songs are definitely special. I was there on March 23, 2002 when they did Whipping Post straight into MJ for the first time since Duane was around (according to Butch). That was just incredible.

They did a 10 - 12 minute version twice November of 1993. It's pretty cool. It was the first 2 shows after DB's unscheduled vacation. Have to checjkto be sure but I think it was like 11-10-93 & 11-12-93 somewhere close to that. Both are really good shows. DB had something to prove I think and did it well.

You were very close, Jimmy, it was the 12th and 13th. The ABBbase also says they did it on the 14th, I don't remember hearing that before.

We got a Whipping Post show closer, and a Mountain Jam encore at Darien last year.

And it's on Instant Live.

Awesome!

Was this at the Berkeley camp? Because my friends brother went to that camp and I don't remember him mentioning anything about this show.
