I just found a whole bunch of 2008 shows that I had not listened too. The ones I have listened to are not the best performances from our favorite band. They don't come close to the fire that was burning in 2013 & 2014.

I'd like to know if anyone has any favorites from 2008. There is bound to be a gem or two in there somewhere even if it wasn't the best year for the ABB. Even if it is just killer versions of a song or two within an otherwise just OK show, I would like to know. I like to put compilations together for best of 2003, best of 2013, etc. Trying to determine if there are any real gems from 2008.

The October show from Pelham had a great DWYNM and INMCTB. I especially love the way Gregg growled into the vocals coming out of DWYNM. Also the backside of Mountain Jam was a nice way to wrap the night before the encore.

Sorry, no specific suggestions but funny timing bc I was just reading a similar discussion on a wine board about "sleeper vintages".

Ironically, 2009 in Bordeaux is considered one of the best ever in terms of the depth and breadth of the quality of wines produced --- but 2008, for example, is showing better and delivering perhaps greater pleasure right now if you find the right bottles.

I know we often focus around here on 2009 ( and to an extent maybe 13 or 14 ) as high marks, but there are certainly gems tucked away in the "sleeper vintages" that I can't wait to hear more about!

I like the last half of 10/1/2008 quite a bit. Stand Back, Anyday, Afro Blue w/ Steve Molitz, Jessica - it's an excellent run. I'm a huge Afro Blue fan, so that perhaps colours my opinion some - but I listen to that section of that show quite a bit. I agree '08 is not as strong as some other years from the last lineup, but there are some gems.

10/11/2008 is very good as well. If my memory serves, the Liz Reed is all one piece - no drums>bass interlude before a reprise. Them breaking up Liz Reed drove me crazy, so the ones without drums stick in my mind.

I'll second that recommendation for 10/11/2008. Really strong Rocking Horse.

Both Atlanta shows at Chastain Park were very good, 10/10/08 and 10/11/08. Saturday night 10/11 show was particularly strong. It was a great day with a huge ABB HTN/Listserv gathering before hand in the park too, where we coincidentally made a huge mushroom shaped group photo.

The Chastain shows were pretty strong, but it's not your imagination, 2008 wasn't the best year for the ABB. What made 2009 so remarkable was that it came at a time when the band had fallen a long way from the peak of 2004/2005, which I consider the high point of the Derek/Warren lineup.

I thought about it a little and wanted to throw in a good word for the 9/30/08 show at Merriweather Post in Maryland. Nothing spectacular, but just a really solid show. Les Brers in the #2 slot? Yes please! Ron Holloway on sax is another highlight.
