This is an awesome story that I never heard before. Apparently there is a recording so perhaps some enterprising fans could search that out. Imagine Gregg (and Cher) at the height of his famousness (1976), showing up to play at a high school.

GREAT story! The stars for Gregg and this young man were clearly in alignment for this to happen.

And the Jesuits may be a lot of things, but one thing they are not is impractical. They are great at raising money, building things, and keeping them going and hosting a world famous rock star at your school only helps that cause.

Audio Recording of the entire concert! Opens with Gregg performing Jackson Browne's "These Days". Got chills! Bittersweet. Still tear up every time I hear Gregg sing. Love and miss ya Gregg. I love that Gregg gave such a subtle, intimate show, no frills, no media, no press, just performing for the love of making music for these wide eyed, innocent, exuberant, music loving Gregg Allman fans, young adults just entering adulthood who would love and cherish these magical memories all of their lives, as I have all my life from the time I was also a young adult, of Gregg's magical music soundscapes.

2nd article tells a little more background about Gregg performing at this High School and how Gregg handpicked a University of Buffalo student & jazz violinist Doug Cameron to perform in his band and at the school performance.

**Audio Recording of the entire concert! Opens with Gregg ( and Gregg's band at the time called The Freeze) performing Jackson Browne's "These Days", "Melissa" (Love Doug Cameron's jazz violin shadings on "Melissa" really just so lovely! This is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt performances of "Melissa" i've ever heard Gregg do.) "One Way Out", "Queen Of Hearts", "Hot Lanta", "Stormy Monday", "You Don't Love Me".**

YES it is. In fact that was much of what I said in my 2 posts above. I think because Gregg was unfettered by the pressure of press or media or beforehand promotion, of money being involved and let's face it when other folks and promoters and venue owners are being paid the pressure is very much on an artist with stress and obligation.

Without all of that, with this show just being an unannounced, intimate free show for an assembly of High School students who were all just wide eyed innocent young adults and all music lovers, who all adored Gregg and his music,...along with Gregg just coming out of a dark place, with much soul searching, and drug abuse which he was at this time cleaning up from, that he was doing his very best to emerge from, trying to sober up in the rehab facility in town, just knowing that these kids appreciated him and his music so much to go to such ardent lengths just to have him perform for them at their school, I think that really touched him deeply and personally.

Gregg was clean and sober, a family man at this point too, enjoying his wife (Cher) and newborn baby (Elijah Blue) and stepchild (Chastity) who also were there on stage to support their husband and dad. I think this definitley brought out the very best in Gregg. This performance is beyond stunning. I have listened to it about a half dozen times since last night. And this does not even have the best sound quality because it is from a cassette that was uploaded by one of the students that organized it. If Gregg sounds this amazing on this cassette recording, imagine how beautiful this would be from a pristine sound board recording, mixed and engineered. But then again, the raw naturalness and its simplicity also add to its luster. Just beautiful. I also love Gregg's very sweet comments to the students in which he is very much appreciative of their love and support.

P.S. Love towards the end, right after "Stormy Monday" and before "You Don't Love Me" when Gregg very tenderly introduces Cher, Elijah Blue, and Chasitity to the students and they cheer. So sweet!
