On such places as Spotify and iTunes, I notice a deluxe edition of the Allman's classic debut album, but cannot find a copy anywhere in the realm of physical media and CDs. I've even tried sending an e-mail to Universal Music about it to ask, though naturally, they had better things to do than answer me . Is this out there on CD anywhere? Anyone know what UPC it would have? Over at the Steve Hoffman Music Forum, I'm told that my best bet for the original mix of the album is rather-expensive MFSL release. Is this what I'm going to have to go with?
As far as I can tell, the Super Deluxe version of Idlewild South negates the need for me to buy At Ludlow Garage, presenting a more complete version, and the Super Deluxe of Brothers and Sisters negates the need to by the 1973 Winterland release (Wikipedia doesn't list this, by the way; are they behind the times on the Allmans' ?)
I currently own:
Beginnings
At Fillmore East: Deluxe
Eat a Peach: Deluxe
Brothers and Sisters
Dreams: Boxed set
I assume that the Complete 1971 Fillmore East Recordings covers the second disc of the EAP deluxe I already have (It's on my Amazon Wishlist, I know Fillmore recordings kick around various places).
Also, I own the standard edition of Layla. Between the Deluxe, Super Deluxe, and Sessions releases, is there one that composites EVERYTHING, or they unique in terms of the extras material? What differentiates therese three? Maybe better for an Eric Clapton forum than for here, but I figured I'd ask.
P.S. The Derek and the Dominoes In Concert CD set is rather pricey, but seems cheap digitally. Does it just suck to be into physical media now?

Complete Fillmore East does include second disk of Eat a Peach Deluxe.
Have you checked Amazon or even Wikipedia for D&D package descriptions?

This is REALLY hard to find but it is a cool book. As much as he tried to encapsulate everything, he couldn't include everything out there. Lots of boots and unauthorized things have been produced. I asked Dean if he could update it because I have a bunch of things that aren't in the book.

201
I would suggest these:
Ludlow Garage - The second disc alone is worth it. 44 minute Mountain Jam
Skydog the Duane Allman Retrospective - (It has most if not everything he did in studio work).
Johnny Jenkins - Duane is all over it.
He said there wasn't a demand for it so he wasn't going to do it. Look at the price of it. I guess he was wrong.
If you have any questions give me a shout. I have everything that has been commercially released.

No, as far as I know there is no deluxe edition of the ABB's debut album on CD. It looks like the one on itunes is adding the beginnings mix of all of the tracks, but I don't believe that has ever been released on CD that way.
The Derek & The Dominoes In Concert CD has been out of print for many years as a stand alone release. It did get released in the super deluxe edition of Layla a few years ago.
As far as having everything that was officially released by Derek & The Dominoes you would need the following:
Layla Deluxe or Super Deluxe (depending on if you can get In Concert as a stand alone or part of this box)
Layla Sessions
D&D at the Fillmore
The Layla sessions has a few jam sessions that include many members of the ABB that are exclusive to that set.
Hope that helps.

So does the standard release of the original first album have the original mix? I'm hearing that it's only included on the ultra-expensive MFSL version. |

someone correct me if i'm wrong but i believe the original first mix is available on the standard capricorn cd. the first album was remixed for the beginnings album when it came out in the early 70's. the original cd pressing of beginnings still has the remix but the later reissue has the original first lp mix. if you have the beginnings cd with the band on the cover you have the original mix. if yours has a gray cover you have the remix.
as for d&d in concert i would go with the d&d live at the fillmore cd. 6 of 9 of the in concert tracks are on LAF and it has alternate performances of the other 3 plus 4 tracks that are not on the in concert set. you can grab it new on amazon now for less than $8 not including shipping ____________________

Does the Layla Sessions disc have everything on the Deluxe Edition ? Or do I need to double up? Apparently the OOP super-expensive Super Deluxe has In Concert, which I can get separately, so I'll just do that.
So the regular edition of AAB on Amazon is the original mix? |
