Voodoo Dead. Great name!

Hopefully they'll do a cover of Black Sabbath's Voodoo

Yet another Dead cover band. I think of all the reunited Dead and Dead-inspired bands,
I'd take Warren/Symphony performances for extending the Dead into new turf.

Don't take this statement the wrong way people: I'm surprised Oteil is not pushing the envelope with other musicians involved in writing original music. Not that he isn't adding his own original Oteil take to VooDooDead. Guess I expected him to turn up in something that looked more like the DTB only without D.

i think this is the 3rd version of voodoo dead. the 1st included Bill Kreutzmann with Steve Kimock, Jackie Greene, Jeff Chimenti, i'm not sure who played bass....maybe Porter. the 2nd i saw last year had Kimock's brother on drums and george porter jr. on bass. they are pretty good, Papa Mali is good to see with them too. i recommend seeing them. my 2nd fav dead cover band after JRAD.

On the other hand, it's again quite a testament to the Grateful Dead songbook. People are always going to be playing those songs, much like Beethoven and Mozart are still played by symphonies.

As long as folks still wanna groove to the tie-dye vibe, someone is going to be playing those songs.

It's a working formula. Good memories don't fade away.

This is not a full time band either. A few shows here and there. Anytime Kimock wants to play Dead songs with any kind of competent band around him - sign me up. Kimock/Oteil/Wally Ingram is a dynamite core for any band - if its Dead covers - fine - there'll be jams in there too.

Couple things, this started in New Orleans with Kreutzmann, he is from New Orleans originally, with the others and Porter at bass.

Kimock led last year as LegalizHemp said. I was at the Sunday show, loved it. John Morgan
Kimock is Steve's son.

I am big on Kimock these days, hope they do New Orleans again.

I would prefer Sabbath tunes over GD any day.

Curious, I wonder if Oteil regrets leaving TTB.

He's going to be playing at places like Fenway and Wrigley this summer, with Dead & Co. so I'm guessing he's feeling ok about things

Just the kind of band we're looking to book for "Tug Hill Jam" next year at the Snow Ridge ski resort in beautiful, majestic, welcoming, affordable, Turin, NY....You may have heard of this venue from the many Moe.downs held there....

Looking at the last weekend of May into June....Friday noon until Sunday late with the headliner ending at midnight or so Sunday night( ideally, Gov't Mule brothers and sisters!) ...Out of the venue by 1 pm Monday....Sort of what Mt. Jam was in the early days. "Mountain Jam North" if you will....

Sorry, I was dreaming there for a moment....

I think the music of Mozart and Beethoven has proved - and will prove - to be more enduring than that of the Grateful Dead!
