Ringo Starr Announces New Tour Dates With His All-Starr Band
By Nick DeRiso January 25, 2016 1:31 PM

Ringo Starr will return to the road this summer with his longest-tenured All-Starr Band lineup. The new tour begins on June 3 in Syracuse, N.Y., and continues through July 2 at the Greek in Los Angeles. More dates are expected to be announced later. You can see a complete list of the confirmed tour stops below.

Starr will be joined again by Todd Rundgren, Gregg Rolie, Steve Lukather and Richard Page. All of them participated on Starr’s most recent solo album, 2015’s Postcards From Paradise. “I love this band,” he told The Boston Globe. “We have a lot of fun together on and offstage, so here we come again.”

This is Starr’s 12th All-Starr band in a tradition that goes back to 1989. Page’s tenure dates to the 11th edition, which toured in 2010-11. This is Rundgren’s third guest turn; he also participated in the first tour, as well as the 1999 edition. The current group is rounded out by Warren Ham and Gregg Bissonette, who has performed with Starr since 2008.

Journey and Santana Announce Joint Concert Dates
By Nick DeRiso January 25, 2016 11:53 AM

Journey will appear with Santana in a trio of concerts, beginning with a date at Madison Square Garden.

The shared shows kick off on April 13 in New York City, then continue to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on April 15, before hitting the PPL Center at Allentown, Penn., on April 16.

The two bands have always been linked, ever since original Santana band member Gregg Rolie and second guitarist Neal Schon split to form Journey in 1973. By 1980, Rolie had departed for a solo career, leaving Schon to lead every successive lineup of Journey. Both have reunited with their old band, and will join fellow classic-era members Carlos Santana, Michael Carabello and Michael Shrieve for a new studio album titled Santana IV, which comes out on April 15.

Tickets for the Madison Square Garden and Uncasville dates go on sale today for American Express card members. Others can buy tickets beginning on Jan. 29 at Live Nation. Seats for the Allentown show will be available for AmEx members on Feb. 1; tickets will be available to the general public for that show on Feb. 5.

Schon joined Santana in time for 1971’s Santana III — which includes the same lineup that plays on the upcoming IV, with the exception of percussionist Jose “Chepito” Areas, who isn’t on the new LP. (Santana IV also features contributions by percussionist Karl Perazzo and bassist Benny Rietveld.) Santana III marked Santana’s third consecutive double-platinum album, following their self-titled debut from 1969 and then Abraxas the following year.

Can't wait to hear the new Santana album. I hope it is good.

I never intended to Journey. I would like to see that summer tour classic rock package tour that has Dave Mason opening and then the Doobie Brothers w/ Billy Payne and then Journey closes ( I think?). Love Dave Mason and Billy Payne. I would enjoy the doobie brothers and have never seen them. I would prob stay and give journey a chance in that situation.

I'm interested in the Santana line-up so grabbed 2 tix for MSG. Indifferent about Journey. I find the All Starr band efforts to be fun sounding, but not enough to get me to buy a ticket.

The way the Santana information was worded was vague enough to make me wonder if the lineup that is doing the Santana IV album is the same Santana lineup that will be playing on these dates. It leans you to think it's that lineup of Santana, but it doesn't specifically state that it will be.

Santana's website doesn't say which lineup it will be either.

I'm guessing / hoping these shows are the acid test for launching a more prolonged Santana IV tour. I think that lineup could fill some sizable venues with the right promotion behind them.

If Ringo could agree to shut up, hire a lead singer, and stay behind the drums, I might consider going. I saw him, must have been 1997. Oh My God, was he ever bad. He couldn't sing when the Beatles were together, and it's only gotten worse. He CAN play the drums though.

I have seen Santana at least 20 times with the last time being at Forest Hills Stadium last summer. That show was the first time I thought he was going through the motions and we were in the 2nd row. I held off buying tickets for the MSG show as I think it is the usual band. Can't imagine Schon playing with both bands. Hope I am wrong but I am waiting for an announcement.

The original plan was for Santana to play a set followed by a set by Journey with Rolie returning and then a set by the classic Santana lineup. They will play tunes from the new album and the old tunes.

Not sure if this is still the case so don't shoot me.

Schon and Rolie will definitely be playing with both bands so no worries there.

Curious if Journey will be playing tunes from the first three Journey albums. These are the pre-Perry albums and not the commercial band Journey would become. Those three albums are hidden gems for those that have never heard them and like the original Santana. Mix of the classic Santana sound with a Zeppelin type influence also.

Journey - Topaz (1974) Cool footage and the whole show is there.

I got tickets to the Mohegan Sun show. From the tour poster, it looks like Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie will be playing w/Santana

"Special Guests" usually means sitting in for a couple of songs. Hopefully it is the whole show, but I'm guessing just a cameo on three or four songs to hopefully tease the full tour later.

My guess is that Journey will be a greatest hits set that they likely always do every night.

A reliable source told me to look for 3 sets. Schon and Rolie will be joining Santana for a full set and Rolie will sit in with Journey for some tunes but not songs from the first three albums. I already knew that but a guy can dream sometimes. Will still be nice to hear Rolie sing some of those classic Journey songs. Once he left and it was only Perry, they sort of lost me. Too much Perry. I liked the balance.

I sure wish Santana just would form a band with Rolie, Carabello, Schon, Marcus Malone and Michael Shrieve (with Oteil on bass!) and play three-hour-long, jam-oriented shows on a tour up and down the West Coast (without any Journey along). But of course that will never happen. I guess I can dream though....

In this era, teaming up for tours ensures better ticket sales and opens up different markets.

I would love what you propose also. Would be amazing. But you would end up with many people staring at them wondering where the songs from Supernatural are.

I know how that goes!! Last time I saw Santana, they warmed up for Rod Stewart. The Santana part of the show was short but sweet, with some of my favorite songs of all time, including "Europa", "Tequilla" and "Oye Como Va". I bolted out of there the second after Santana was done playing, as I don't like Rod Stewart's music at all. (To put it politely.) I dislike the music of Steve Perry-era Journey even more. If Santana and Journey do make it to the West Coast, and play a three set show with Santana warming up, I might have to bring my best set of industrial-strength earplugs for the Journey portion of the show in the middle, before the final Santana IV set at the end!! How weird would that be!!

I'll be at one of these two shows. More than likely the SD appearance just for the chance of Mr. Starr signing my Gretsch
